Introduction This guide on the graphic standards of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Parish and School is essential to increase awareness, and key to rolling out a consistent image. The logos and other important graphic elements detailed in this guide are the face of our community, and it is imperative to follow the requirements listed in this guide to ensure a clear, consistent and recognizable identity for OLS. Consistency increases awareness and helps cement a connection to our beliefs and our mission as a parish and school. 1

Basic Logo Mark This is the basic logo mark for Our Lady of Sorrows. Please see the following pages for approved variations and guidelines for usage. Basic Logo This is the basic logo for Our Lady of Sorrows. Please see the following pages for approved variations and guidelines for usage. 3

Basic Logo Mark This logo is used for signage, spirit wear, and basic school and parish branding. One color, two color and white (knocking out of a solid blue) are permitted for use. Basic Logo This logo is used for all official parish and school correspondence including stationary, brochures and all printed materials. Please see the following pages for approved variations and guidelines for usage. Please note: Logos will be distributed through the advancement office only. Permission to use them is required. Do not attempt to recreate the logo. Do not pull low resolution logos off of the website, or from digital or printed documents. 4

Approved Logo Applications Below are the approved parish and school logos. They are designed to work consistently together. The basic logo may also be used with the tagline underneath. When using the school or parish logo, the tagline art may be used somewhere else on the page. Artwork for the tagline is also available. Please see the following page for logo size and clearspace guidelines. 5

Size and clearspace Guidelines The logos should not be used at a size that compromises its legibility and recognition. Typically, the business card is the smallest printed application of the logo. The logo should not be reproduced smaller then.75 high. It is essential for the brand image to maintain the below size and spacing guidelines. Minimum size allowed:.75.75 It is recommended to leave as much clear space as possible around the logo. This isolates it from competing elements that can lessen its impact and legibility. As a general rule, we recommend a minimum space around the logo that is equal to the height of the letter O in Our. This is illustrated below. 6

Logo usage don ts The following rules should be applied to all Our Lady of Sorrows Logos: DO NOT: Don t recreate the logo. Skew or distort Don t change the logo s orientation. Don t bevel or emboss the logo as an effect. Don t place the logo on a busy photograph or pattern. Angle or change orientation Don t change the logo colors. Don t crop the logo in any way. Change color Don t place the logo on similarly colored backgrounds. Don t add glow effects on the logo. Don t add drop shadow effects on the logo. CATHOLIC SCHOOL OLS Modify any of the elements Don t reconfigure or change the size or placement of any of the logo elements. Don t put a white box around the logo. Place on similar background Don t stretch or squeeze the logo to distort the proportions. Don t recreate elements or add any other elements to the logo. Don t change the relationship of the type. Place on a busy photo or background Don t place the logo art as a part of a sentence. Put a white box around Add effects like drop shadows 8

OUR Tag line The tagline or theme line of our parish and school defines who we are, and encompasses the beliefs and mission of Our Lady of Sorrows parish and school. The logo including it can be used, or it can be placed in an area on the page away from the logo. The art is available for use from the advancement office. Copy tonality Copy is used to explain our themeline and helps to define our mission and who we are. Feel free to use this copy which breaks out each pillar of our beliefs. Faith Our Lady of Sorrows offers an outstanding Catholic religion-based education. Teaching students to be like Christ is at the core of all OLS academics and student-life activities. Knowledge Our Lady of Sorrows students are fully prepared to succeed academically through the dedicated staff and sound course offerings. OLS students consistently exceed national test scores. Community The focus of OLS is to develop the whole child: Body, Mind, and Spirit. We offer over twenty extracurricular activities and enrichment programs, including Band, Math Counts, Chess Club, Science Olympiad, and many more. OLS offers twenty-five CYO teams across ten sports. 9

Our Typefaces Below are the official typefaces for Our Lady of Sorrows. The primary typeface for main headlines and bold statements is Giovanni. It is a dignified font, and it relates directly to the Our Lady of Sorrows logos. It may be used in Sorrow s Blue (pms 287), or in black. Please do not set headlines in yellow. Giovanni Regular Giovanni Bold Giovanni is also used for subheads. Subheads are set in all caps. Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School provides a rigorous curriculum that meets and exceeds the standards required by the State of Michigan. OLS has been a nationally accredited school for over 25 years. Our students consistently test above the national average on Iowa Test scores, and place in the top 3 in academic competitions. Arial Arial regular is the supporting font used for body copy and small call outs. its simplicity is a great compliment to Giovanni. Arial medium or bold may be used as callouts in a sentence or for captions. Arial may be used in Sorrow s Blue (pms 287), or in black. Please do not set body copy in yellow. Banners and signage Signage and banners are used to promote the parish and school and should have a visual impact. To do so, the logo should be large and fill the space. Spirit Wear and merchandise To ensure consistency and increase brand awareness, all team uniforms, spirit wear, and other gear and merchandise should be in blue, gold or white. The below spirit logo mark should be used on spirit wear. The basic OLS logo mark without text may also be used. Ink colors on blue items can be one color or two (white only, or white and gold). Gold items may also be ordered, but with blue ink only. A team may decide to have text only on the front of a shirt, but in that case, the OLS logo mark should be on the sleeve.
