OCTOBER 2018 PABCUrbana.org We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hebrews 6:19 Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church 600 E. Pennsylvania Avenue Urbana, IL 61801 PABC lives to encourage people to have a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ

The Reminder Page 2 Rich's Review PABC - 2018 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:23-25 The verses above have been our theme for 2018, and we are entering the 4th quarter. This is not the time to slow down or let up. This is the time to double-down and to concentrate on the goal. Hebrews 10:23-25, plainly states several goals for our focus. Chronologically speaking, the first goal is to hang on! If a farmer plowed, planted and nurtured the crops then let them rot in the field, you would know there was something wrong with the farmer. What a waste, what a tragedy. The same would be true of us, if after praying, planning and working to bring hope to our community, we didn t see it through, we would miss the blessing. This month, PABC will vote on a new identity statement at our monthly Business Meeting. Please pray and come to share in this opportunity to launch a new season of ministry into our community. Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church Where the hope of Jesus is alive I am blessed to be your pastor, Rich

The Reminder Page 3 MissionRedemption Worship Focus Jesus saved us and He provides our purpose for living each day. He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for Himself a special people, eager to do good works. Titus 2:13 Redemption - the action of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment, or clearing a debt. Entering the holiday season this year, our worship focus will center on the great plan of God to bring His beloved creation back into right relationship with Him. Following up on the theme that we are New Creations in Christ, the point of His work in His people will be our subject. He came, He saves us and He saves us for a reason, to know Him and make Him known. We have a mission! Jesus mission was to seek and to save that which was lost. ) (Luke 19:10) He said, As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you. (John 20:21) All believers are a work of redemption and on mission for the redemption of our world. Make our corporate worship a priority during this season of celebration.

The Reminder Page 4 Wednesday Night October 31st 6:00-8:00 p.m. The theme of the games this year during our Fall Festival will be The Life of Jesus. Contact Pastor Dave if you would like to help volunteer for this event. Help is needed: serving food, supervising games, face painting, registration, and other fun opportunities. Plan to attend the annual event that helps bring neighbors together and provides a safe, fun place for families. We need your help. WEDNESDAY AUGUST 15, 6:30 P.M. Fun - Food - Friends

The Reminder Page 5 By Brandon Elrod Southern Baptist Disaster Relief in North Carolina Lumberton, N.C. Cars stretched out of the parking lot of Hyde Park Baptist Church in Lumberton, N.C. and down Highway 211 as residents waited in line to receive hot meals in a make-shift drive thru set up by Southern Baptist Disaster Relief (SBDR) in the church s parking lot. Volunteers with the North Carolina Baptists on Mission (NCBM), who comprise North Carolina s SBDR team, along with volunteers from churches in town, cooked and distributed meals to residents, many of whom lost everything during Hurricane Florence. Blackburn surmised that at least 200 volunteers from Hyde Park and other churches were serving and that at least a third of those volunteers were now homeless or living with family. What s amazing is that even when their lives are upside down, they re still out there serving, which says a lot about their compassion and commitment to this community, Blackburn said. Flooding made it difficult for food and supplies to get into Lumberton, creating a lot of anxiety in the community. The North Carolina SBDR team served food to those who could drive up and packed meals into American Red Cross vehicles that delivered meals to nearby shelters. The National Guard used high water vehicles to deliver supplies and SBDR-prepared hot meals through the flood waters. Teams from Mississippi and Florida will also be participating in the feeding and recover efforts. As of Wednesday evening, SBDR teams across North and South Carolina had served more than 118,000 meals. Around 20 chainsaw jobs or yard cleanup have been completed. SBDR will accelerate its recovery efforts in the coming days and weeks as many homes still remain flooded.
