Welcome to Northbrook Presbyterian Church October 14, 2018 We are glad you re here and thankful for the opportunity to worship with you and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. We seek to be an open, rational and compassionate people, learning each week what it means to live the love of Jesus Christ in worship and work, in word and deed. Everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. ~ John 13:35 LIFE IN THE COMMUNITY OF FAITH Please sign and pass the Welcome Register along your row and back. Please note joys and concerns on the Prayer Request Cards and place them in the offering. CALL TO WORSHIP One: All you who are thirsty, this is the place for water. All you who are hungry, this is the place to be fed. Why spend your money on what is not food? Why pay for that which fails to satisfy? All: Here, without money, here, without price, all may enjoy the bread of heaven. One: God speaks, and all who listen will have life. Brian Long * OPENING SONG 23 God, You Spin the Whirling Planets Hymnal
PRAYER OF CONFESSION One: Glorious God, your thoughts are not our thoughts, nor are your ways our ways. You look at the ugliest soul and see, unstirred, the wings of an angel. All: We scan the finest of our neighbors, anxious to find the flaws. One: You see our lives in the context of eternity, and make a time for waiting, for yearning, for putting all things in proportion. All: We demand instant results, and look for tomorrow before savoring today. One: You know that only one who suffers can ultimately save, so you choose to walk the way of the cross. All: We feel judged and threatened by that love which risks all for all. One: Your thoughts are not our thoughts. All: Nor are your ways our ways. Silent reflection One: Not to have our worst confirmed, but to have our best liberated, we pray for your grace and your pardon. All: Forgive in us what has gone wrong. Repair in us what is wasted. Reveal in us what is good. One: And nourish us with better food than we could ever purchase, your Word, your love, your interest, your daily bread for our life s journey in the company of Jesus Christ our Lord. All: Amen. * THE PEACE As we are reconciled to God and to one another, share a sign of Christ s peace and love with your neighbor. During the hymn, the children are invited forward for a special message. They are then dismissed to KIDS CONNECTION * SONG How Great is Our God Tomlin, Reeves and Cash
CHILDREN S MESSAGE BAPTISM OF CAROLINE SUSAN KOSS RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS Michael Buscaino, Keith Lee, Jack MacFarlane APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven; he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
