Daniel 9:25 (KJV) Know therefore and understand, [that] from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince [shall be] seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. Daniel 9:27 (KJV) And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make [it] desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. Let s continue in our book Desire of Ages, Chapter #23, page 233 Before we begin our Study, let us learn about the Timeline, their Meanings and Christ s Prophetic Period. What does B.C. mean? B.C. stands for Before Christ, and it means the number of years before the time of Jesus Christ. That was about 2000 years ago, so the date 552 B.C. means 2552 years ago. The Extra Bonus: Are written in red letters. Some people use B.C.E. instead. That stands for Before the Common Era, and is used in order to avoid Christian references. History for Kids feels that since this is a Christian dating system, it's a little silly to try to hide that. What does A.D. mean? A.D. is short for Anno Domini, which means the "year of our Lord," and C.E. is short for Common Era. The date 2000 A.D. means that it's been 2000 years since Jesus Christ was born. 2000 C.E. means the same thing. http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/ad.htm The burden of Christ's preaching was, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent ye, and believe the gospel. Thus the gospel message, as given by the Saviour Himself, was based on the prophecies. The "time" which He declared to be fulfilled was the period made known by the angel Gabriel to Daniel. Seventy weeks," said the angel, are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy. Daniel 9:24. A day in prophecy stands for a year. See Numbers 14:34; Ezekiel 4:6. The seventy weeks, or four hundred and ninety days, represent four hundred and ninety years. A starting point for this period is given: Question: What was the burden of Christ s preaching? And, on what did the Saviour Himself base the gospel message on? Answer: The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent ye, and believe the gospel. And, it was on the prophecies. Daniel 9:25. The commandment to restore and build Jerusalem, as completed by the decree of Artaxerxes Longimanus (see Ezra 6:14; 7:1, 9, margin), went into effect in the autumn of B. C. 457. From this time four hundred and eighty-three years extend to the autumn of A. D. 27. According to the prophecy, this period was to reach to the Messiah, the Anointed One. In A. D. 27, Jesus at His baptism received the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and soon afterward began His ministry. Then the message was proclaimed. "The time is fulfilled." {DA 233.1} Question: Where and when did Jesus received the anointing of the Holy Spirit? And, soon after His ministry began, what message was proclaimed? Answer: In A. D. 27, at His baptism. And, "The time is fulfilled." Seventy weeks," to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy. For seven years after the Saviour entered on His ministry, the gospel was to be preached especially to the Jews; for three and a half years by Christ Himself; and afterward by the apostles. "In the midst of the week He shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease." Daniel 9:27. In the spring of A. D. 31, Christ the true sacrifice was offered on Calvary. Then the veil of the temple was rent in twain, showing that the sacredness and significance of the sacrificial service had departed. The time had come for the earthly sacrifice and oblation to cease. {DA 233.2} Question: How long was the gospel to be preached especially to the Jews and by whom? And, when was Christ the true sacrifice offered on Calvary? Answer: For three and a half years by Christ Himself. And in the spring of A. D. 31 Then the veil of the temple was rent in twain, showing that the sacredness and significance of the sacrificial service had departed. Song: Let s learn another scripture song dear ones from the book of 1 Peter, together! 1 Peter 1:18-19 (KJV) Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, [as] silver and gold, from your vain conversation [received] by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish (2x)and without spot: as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 1 Peter chapter 1and the18 and 19 verses The one week--seven years--ended in A. D. 34. Then by the stoning of Stephen the Jews finally sealed their rejection of the gospel; the disciples who were scattered abroad by persecution "went everywhere preaching the word" (Acts 8:4); and shortly after, Saul the persecutor was converted, and became Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. {DA 233.3} Question: When did the one week--seven years ended? And by what event the Jews finally seal their rejection of the gospel? Answer: In A. D. 34. And, then by the stoning of Stephen; then the disciples who were scattered abroad by persecution "went everywhere preaching the word". Question: And what shortly happen after Stephen stoning? Gather the little ones together! It s Story Time! Our book selection this Sabbath is entitle, Sons and Daughters of God Chapter 1-Sons of God Are Led By Him Narrated by our dear Brother Graves! As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Romans 8:14. {SD 28.1} The Holy Spirit is a person, for He beareth witness with our spirits that we are the children of God. When this witness is borne, it carries with it its own evidence. At such times we believe and are sure that we are the children of God. {SD 28.2} The Lord has fulness of grace to bestow on every one that will receive the heavenly gift. The Holy Spirit will bring the God-entrusted capabilities into Christ's service, and will mold and fashion the human agent according to the divine Pattern, in proportion as the human agent shall earnestly desire the transformation. {SD 28.3} Those who consent to be led by the Spirit of God will be illuminated and sanctified. They will discern the hatefulness of sin and the beauty of holiness. They will esteem it a great honor to be called the sons of God, knowing that they are wholly unworthy to be associated with Christ, the only begotten Son of the Father. Christ took upon Him our nature, that He might associate us with Himself. He suffered in the flesh... that He might bring many sons and daughters to God. {SD 28.4} It is the Spirit that causes to shine into darkened minds the bright beams of the Sun of Righteousness; that makes men's hearts burn within them with an awakened realization of the truths of eternity; that presents before the mind the great standard of righteousness, and convinces of sin; that inspires faith in Him who alone can save from sin; that works to transform character by withdrawing the affections of men from those things which are temporal and perishable, and fixing them upon the eternal inheritance. The Spirit recreates, refines, and sanctifies human beings, fitting them to become members of the royal family, children of the heavenly King. {SD 28.5} Next Week We will continue with part 3 in our lesson book Desire of Ages entitle, The Kingdom of God Is at Hand!
