Barrett Memorial Mass Please pray for our recently deceased: Jeanette Hogan & Adeline Parker There is no doubt that the Rosary is one of the trademarks of Catholic devotion to Mary. Every day the Rosary is recited publicly here at St. Elizabeth s before the 9 am Mass. We invite those who can do so to join our Rosary Group. and honor Mary, the Mother of Jesus. From the Administrator Dear Parishioners and Extended Family Members, Praised be Jesus Christ! As we find our parish community beginning the Third Week of Advent, I do not think it is too late to express thanksgiving, even though Thanksgiving Day was more than two weeks ago. I am thankful to A. Thomas & Sons Nursery for donating the tree and the plantings given in loving memory of Louise and Andy Thomas located on the Randolph Avenue side of the church. I am thankful to John Driscoll Landscaping for removing the dead tree and for planting the new one, thereby further beautifying our property. I am grateful to all the volunteer help that came to church Saturday morning to get the church ready for our upcoming Christmas celebration - the Arts and Environment committee led by Lynn Petitti, the Confirmation students led by Mrs. Beth Peterson and Mrs. Denise Johnson-Illaqua, and the grounds crew led by Mr. Bill Neville. It was inspiring to see them all at work to beautify our church, thereby inspiring our parish community. I am grateful to Dan & Kate Daly who spear-headed the effort for our parish children and youth to make Christmas cards for our parish homebound last Sunday after the 9:30 Mass. These cards will be delivered along with Christmas flowers by our Christian Service Committee on behalf of the parish thereby sharing the Christmas joy we experience as a parish community. I am grateful to Santa Claus for taking the time out of his busy schedule in order to have breakfast with us this weekend. For all of the above, I am deeply grateful and I am sure the parish community feels the same way. As we light the pink candle of our Advent Wreath this week, we remember today is Gaudete Sunday, a day we remind ourselves that in the midst of all our interior preparation, including repentance for our sins, we are a people of joy. Gaudete may be translated as: " Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Let your forbearance be known to all, for the Lord is near at hand; have no anxiety about anything, but in all things, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God. Speaking of joy, I hope my countdown of the 10 Worst Names in the Bible have been at least the cause of some joy for you. Now, for THE worst name in the Bible, drumroll please JOKTAN - A son of Eber and a brother of Peleg and from whom thirteen tribes of Arabia sprang (Gen 10:25-29; 1 Chron 1:19-23) - The name is so wrong in so many ways!!! Gratefully yours in Christ, Fr. Steve
