THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER! SPIRITUAL READING & REFLECTION he said to him, F o l l o w M e John 21:19 D O Y OU L OVE M E? When they re all together on that morning...and Jesus had made breakfast for everybody - what care - and no one dared speak because they all knew it was the Lord. He s near Simon and he says to him, very softly, without the others realizing, he says quietly, Simon, do you love me more than these? This is the culmination of Christian morality: the beginning and the end of Christian morality. He didn t tell him, Simon, you betrayed me. Simon, think how many mistakes you made. Simon, how many betrayals! Simon, just think that you can make the same mistake tomorrow and the day after. Think about how fragile you are, what a coward you are in front of me. No! Simon, do you love me more than these? He went to the depths of everything, to the bottom of everything; so this bottom of everything pulls everything along with it. And Peter, who loved him, ended up dying like him Saint Thomas says, more or less, that man finds his dignity in the choice of what he values most in life and from which he expects the greatest satisfaction. Servant of God Monsignor Luigi Giussani Servant of God Msgr. Luigi Giussani (+2005) was a priest from Milan, Italy, and was the founder of the ecclesial movement Communion and Liberation. THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER! ATTENTION ST JOHN PARISHIONERS MAY 8, 2016 First Holy Communion will be celebrated on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at the 8:30am Mass. We have nine children, in Jamie Thelen s second grade class, who will be making their First Communion. Pews will be reserved for the families (one pew per family) so seating will be at a premium on that Sunday. Be advised that the 8:30 Mass will most likely be very crowded as it s Mother s Day, May Crowning and First Holy Communion! DONUTS & DOGMA QUESTION AND ANSWER Last Sunday during Donuts & Dogma, a question was asked regarding old missals and Bibles. If an old missal or Bible is damaged or falling apart it should be burned and buried. However, if you have older or outdated missals and Bibles but they are in good shape, then it s best to share them with others. If you have old St. Joseph Missals or Bibles, you may bring them to the parish office where they will be sorted and offered to others who have expressed an interest in having them. Any questions, please email Theresa in the parish office at stjohnff@windstream.net. JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY The ladies of the Circle of Mary just completed a consecration to Divine Love at this past Sunday s Divine Mercy service. Anyone who may be interested in obtaining Fr. Gaitley's book on this subject is welcome to go to marian.org/merciful or call 1-800-462-7426. The title of the book is 33 Days to Merciful Love: A Do-It-Yourself Retreat in Preparation for Divine Mercy Consecration. The retreat and consecration can be made as an individual at any time of the year. PRO LIFE All of us are called to offer others an explicit witness to the saving love of the Lord, who despite our imperfections offers us his closeness, his word and his strength, and gives meaning to our lives. Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, no. 121 Please note that when a regularly scheduled Mass cannot be celebrated here, Fr. Arnsparger will offer the previously requested intention at a private Mass. In one evening, all three of the Sacraments of Initiation are celebrated - the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Communion. Through the Sacrament of Baptism, we are washed of the stains caused by Original Sin. Next, the Sacrament of Confirmation both welcomes us into the Church and brings us the graces of the Holy Spirit. Finally, as full members of the Church, we can accept the true body and blood of Christ through the Sacrament of Holy Communion. All of this happens amidst one of the most beautiful Masses of the year- the Easter Vigil! Congratulations to Anthony Wicklund, the newest member of the Catholic Church and our parish. Anthony celebrated the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil last weekend. David Collins was welcomed into Full Communion with the Catholic Faith and joined the following in reception of the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion: Jesus Alviar, Felipe Bravo, Allen Lejeune, and Evelyn Rivera. Congratulations to all of these individuals May God bless you and your families!
