We all probably have had enough experience with fire to know that if a fire is not stoked and properly tended it will decrease and eventually go out. If you want to keep it going it takes a certain amount of maintenance. This concept holds true for many things and not just fire. In marriage the fires of love have to be stoked and tended as well. And, most certainly in our relationships with the Lord, we must actively work to keep it going. It, almost certainly, will not just happen on its own. The revival meeting for 2018 is over, but hopefully revival has just begun in your life. How will you keep the fires of revival alive in your heart? We all know it can be difficult. There are no shortcuts. It just takes work. I believe Paul gave us a pretty good formula when he wrote to the Romans I Beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your minds that you might prove to do what is the good, the acceptable, and perfect will of God. (Rom. 12:1-2) Notice the specific things he mentions. We are to present our bodies (ourselves) as living sacrifices. That means we let go of what we might want for ourselves and give our whole selves over to God. It is not merely a one-time gift either, but we keep on giving them over to Him every day. He goes on to say here that doing this is not too much to expect. He says this is our reasonable service. For saved, born-again children of God He expects us to yield ourselves to Him fully and completely. I N S I D E T H I S I S S U E : A Letter From Our Pastor 1 Easter Activities 2 Operation Christmas Child Bible Study Opportunities- 3 Deacon of the Week Nursery Volunteers Paul goes on to say that we are to avoid the constant temptation and tendency to be conformed to the shape and manner of this world but rather, become transformed by the renewing of our minds. How do we become transformed by renewing our minds? The change may be slow or it may be fast but when our minds are rightly focused and when our minds control our bodies we will serve the right purpose God. We renew our minds by what we put into them and sometimes by what we keep from putting into them. Spending time with the Lord every day by reading His Word and by prayer is a wonderful way to keep our minds renewed. Going to church and being motivated by a sermon and by the worship service itself is another great source of encouragement. Also, there are so many good Christian books available these days to help us all learn more about God and how we can walk closer to Him. I do a lot of reading and it truly does help me renew my mind just like Paul suggested. Bro Allen s Quotable Quotes and Recommendation of the Month FBC Birthdays & Anniversaries Announcements 4 5 I love the peak of a revival meeting. I feel so strong spiritually by the time it is over, but I have to work hard at not letting it wane. It is not easy, but we can all do it. We have examples from church history and from our own family and acquaintances who seem to have it down. Learn what you can from them about their prayer lives, their methods of Bible study, and the value they place or did place on certain things. Living in an on-going spirit of revival is there for the taking for us if we will just grab hold of it. But it will not come apart from effort. May we all be willing to make that effort and stay revived! In Christ Our Lord, Bro. Allen

P A G E 4 March 2018 Subject: Temptation Bro. Allen s Quotable Quotes Let us be as watchful after the victory as before the battle (Andrew Bonar; late Scottish Preacher) You are a target for the devil if you are living for Jesus. (SBC Evangelist Jamey Ragel) What life does to us depends on what life finds in us; and nothing reveals the true inner man like the furnace of afflicion. (Warren Wiersbe) You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it. (Margaret Thatcher) Where there is no temptation, there can be little claim to virtue. (Charles Swindoll) The reason Christians fall into sin is that they treat temptation like strawberry shortcake rather than a rattlesnake. (Billy Sunday) Pastor Allen s Recommendation of the Month On recent Wednesday nights we have been watching and discussing a video series by John MacArthur about the Parable of the Prodigal Son which MacArthur believes to be the greatest of Jesus many parables. Before he produced the video series he wrote an entire book about this deeply insightful teaching by the Lord titled A Tale of Two Sons: The Inside Story of a Father, His Sons, and a Shocking Murder. This parable seems almost inexhaustible in its depth and profundity. The more I read it and consider it, the more things I realize. The three characters in the story, the prodigal, the older brother, and the father each illustrate a key person or group. The prodigal wayward sinners, the father God, and the older brother the self-righteous Pharisees. The tale was lost on these religious leaders because they not only persisted in their attempts to earn God s favor by good works they let their hatred and jealousy fester until the point they had Jesus put to death to eliminate the problem. This book is a wonderful look at this great parable taught by Jesus. F I R S T B A P T I S T C H U R C H, R O G E R S
