The Breath Priest Lake Presbyterian Church Vol. 15, No. 5 Take the Breath to Spread the Word May 2015 Even God Needed a Mother Even God needed a mother when he was born on Christmas day, for Mary took her baby and gently laid him in the hay. We all need someone to care for us as we deal with all the strife, for we need someone to help us as we travel through this life. So let us all make a promise as we go our earthly way, to share some love and sympathy with those we meet each day. For just as God needed a mother we all need someone to care, for to find peace and happiness we need God s love to share. And that is the good news, Pastor Jimmie Seekers Adult Sunday School Class Sunday School is for life!! Come explore and discuss great religious writings as we move forward with our studies from Devotional Classics (ISBN: 978-0- 06-077750-0) edited by Foster and Smith. The actual devotional authors are both current and ancient. We will be exploring the following selections during May: May 3: John of the Cross Purifying the Soul May 10: Evelyn Underhill What Do We Mean by Prayer? May 17: Thomas à Kempis Dealing with Temptations May 24: Jean-Pierre de Caussade The Present Moment May 31: Elezabeth O Connor Dealing with Money Still plenty of seats available for our 9:00 a.m. journey! Peace, Jon Loudermilk 1

WALK Discovers Nuggets in the Gospel of Luke and Why You Are 'One In A Million' The Wednesday night WALK group continues its self-paced in-depth study of the Gospel of Luke. Bring your Bible and join us as we share insight with one another from this beloved Gospel. We reference commentaries and share ideas as we discover nuggets of wisdom in this favorite book of the Bible, verse by verse. The Sunday night group is studying Priscilla Shirer's seven-week video study titled "One In A Million." Join us as we walk with the Israelites through the Wilderness en route to the Promised Land to discover our own purpose. Due to popular demand, the study will repeat itself when we finish the current session on April 12. If you want to join us for "round two," we will begin with Week One on Sunday, April 19. Calling women of PLPC and the community: Prepare to be transformed by participating in either one or both WALK groups. Sunday WALK meets 5-6:30 p.m. each week, with Wednesday WALK meeting from 6-7 p.m. WALK, in its fourth year, has grown into a supportive group of women who pray and care for one another as we each seek God's Will for our lives. All women of the church and community are invited to join WALK. We meet in the high school classroom (aka Journey to Kenya room). If you have questions, please contact Crystal Caviness at 615.306.3401 or via email at crystal.caviness@gmail.com. Calling all kids from PLPC and the community: Vacation Bible School kicks off Sunday, May 31st! Put your faith into action using the G-Force and watch PLPC come alive with movement and images from skateboards, running shoes, roller blades and more kid-friendly transportation. Learn how God is at work around the world and how God's people are on the move. VBS will meet from 6-8:30 p.m. Sunday, May 31st, through Wednesday, June 3rd. A meal will be served each night, with Fily Night set for Wednesday, June 3rd. Adults who would like to help should contact Crystal Caviness at crystal.caviness@gmail.com or 615.306.3401. Mark your calendar now and start inviting your friends! 2

As you re doing your spring cleaning, don t take all of that extra stuff to Goodwill. Just drop it in the big blue bins in the Sunday School hallway and Goodwill will pick it up at the church. Here s how it works: You can drop anything you would normally bring to Goodwill in the blue bins. Any clothing items or shoes that can be used for Project J.O.Y. (PLPC s Appalachian Mission Project) are pulled out and saved for our yearly mission trip in October. Everything else is left for Goodwill to pick up. Each time we fill the two bins, they are picked up by Goodwill and we receive two $20 Goodwill gift cards. The Project J.O.Y. te then uses the gift cards to shop at Goodwill on Sundays and Wednesdays (which are.99 cent days). On the last shopping trip, 28 hoodies and 15 pairs of jeans were purchased for less than $40! This is a great way to get rid of things you no longer want and benefit Project J.O.Y. at the se time. If you have any questions please contact Terry Culp or Laura Bradford. Thank you! 30th Purity Miss Martha's Ice Cre Crankin' and Summer Social Crankin' returns June 14th for its 30th year!
