OLD MICHAELIAN ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER 2017 A Very Happy New Year to all of our Readers. For those Members who are receiving this OMA Newsletter for the first time, may I quickly explain the purpose behind this first publication of the year. Our principal publication The Mitre will be distributed later in the year and the objective of the Newsletter at this time is to keep the communications channels open to all of our Members, non-members, lapsed Members in an attempt to encourage as much dialogue as possible before work begins on the structure of The Mitre.

2. My name is John Wallington and it is my great pleasure to welcome you, once again, to the annual OMA Newsletter and I hope you are all well and that you have plenty of printable material that we can publish in The Mitre again this year. It is always wonderful to receive accounts and memories of time spent at St. Michaels School and our hope is that these articles from you all will, once again, make up the majority of, yet again, a bumper issue of The Mitre for 2017. If you do have an article in you that is just busting to be published, don t hold back, get it down in writing and send it immediately to me, OMA Editor, hinckleytowers@btinternet.com Thanks. Enjoy the contents of the OMA Newsletter. 2016 was a very special year for the Old Michaelian Association as we celebrated in real style the 70 th Anniversary of the Founding of St. Michaels School, Ingoldisthorpe by the Headmaster Roger Pott. Before we go any further, it is important that a few Thanks were handed out. Throughout the whole of 2016 the OMA Committee worked tirelessly organising every important aspect of our OMA Anniversary Reunion weekend that took place at the Le Strange Arms Hotel, Old Hunstanton over the weekend of 29/30 October 2016 and I know that our President, Simon Pott, would want to join me in saying to the OMA Committee a huge THANKYOU for all of their hard work last year. There were so many successful parts of the Anniversary Reunion to report on it is a little difficult to know where to start. Without a doubt, we do want to recognise and thank the amazing number of OM s and their partners who made the journey all the way to Hunstanton to help us celebrate this wonderful Anniversary, so please accept a huge THANKYOU. On a similar theme, we could not possibly carry on this recognition of the valuable contribution our OM s and their partners made to our Anniversary celebrations without mentioning the incredible travelling some of our OM s made to join us all in Hunstanton last October. We welcomed Les Roberts, representing the OMAA, all the way from Sydney Australia. We welcomed Martin Coats from Canada. We welcomed Michael Barnes all the way from the west coast of the USA and last but not least, we welcomed Timothy Jackson and his wife Sylvia all the way from sunny Spain. An additional Thankyou to all of you.

3. The 2016 Anniversary Reunion weekend proved to be more successful than any of us could have hope. It proved to all of us involved in this whole project that there is still a vast number of Old Michaelians who want to attend future OMA Reunions in Hunstanton and as long as there is a need from our Members we will endeavour to provide the necessary support. The 2016 Anniversary Reunion weekend also confirmed to all of us that the Old Michaelian Association is extremely well and very much alive and kicking. Any further details about the 2016 Anniversary Reunion will be fully covered within The Mitre this year but if you are unable to wait til June, may we suggest you take a look at the OMA Web Site, www.oma.org.uk where you will be able to digest the list of people who attended and view the fabulous photographs taken by David Pleming and Bill Cullin. The OMA Annual General Meeting that took place at the Le Strange Arms Hotel on Saturday 29 October 2016 was very well attended by our Members and all of the necessary items, appertaining to OMA business, was successfully conducted in accordance with the OMA Constitution. We were asked to consider a nomination submitted and vote upon accepting Michael Shellock as a OMA Committee Member and we are delighted to confirm that this nomination was accepted by the AGM Members and Michael is now part of our OMA Committee team. Welcome, Michael. You may be asking why we have included a photograph of the East Window at Ingoldisthorpe Parish Church on our collage above. Well, all will be revealed within The Mitre this year together with a suitable update to inform you all. So, please be patient and we promise to provide you with a full Report.

4. What can you expect to read about in the 2017 Mitre? Full report on the OMA Anniversary Reunion weekend East Window Fund for Ingoldisthorpe Parish Church Report on the 2017 Spring OMA Committee Meeting Letter from Paul Atkins Much, much more from you.the Members All the necessary details for our next Reunion weekend We have dates already for our forthcoming 2017 OMA Reunion in Hunstanton and we would encourage all of you to take note of the following dates and enter them into your diaries. EVENT: 2017 OMA REUNION WEEKEND DATES: 28 and 29 OCTOBER 2017 WHERE: LE STRANGE ARMS HOTEL OLD HUNSTANTON NORFOLK
