P R E S B Y T E R S E C O N D C H U R C H I A N ORDER FOR THE PUBLIC WORSHIP of GOD June September February 11, 2017, 18, 5, 8:15 2017 2016 a.m. Epiphany Trinity Sunday Season

Preparation for Worship As you enter the Sanctuary, please prepare your heart for worship and silence your mobile devices. Today we celebrate Trinity Sunday when we reflect upon and celebrate the beauty, power, and work of our triune God. Think for a moment about your own salvation. The Father purposed your salvation before the worlds were made. The Son secured your salvation on His cross and by His resurrection. The Spirit applied salvation to your life by opening your heart to believe in Christ. How would you answer the question: What is a Christian? The question can be answered in many ways, but possibly the richest answer is that: A Christian is one who has God for his Father, Jesus for his Savior, and the Holy Spirit for his constant companion. Therefore, God is never more glorious than in His triune enterprise to enthrone Jesus Christ in our hearts. Let us prepare our hearts for worship by reflecting on the following prayer: O blessed Trinity, in whom we know the Maker of all things seen and unseen, the Savior of all both near and far: By your Spirit enable us so to worship Your divine majesty, that with all the company of heaven we may magnify Your glorious name, saying: Holy, holy, holy. Glory to You, O Lord Most High. Amen. The Liturgy of the Word ORGAN PRELUDE: The Emperor s Fanfare from Concerto No. 6... Antonio Soler Speak O Lord, as We Come to You...Keith Getty; arr. Mary MacDonald Samuel Metzger, Organist CHORAL INTROIT: Holy Is the Lord...Franz Shubert Holy, holy holy, holy is the Lord. Holy is the Father, holy is the Son. Holy is the Spirit; blessed Three in One. The Westminster Singers Christy Young, Director SCRIPTURAL CALL TO WORSHIP...Michael C. Davis WHYMN OF PRAISE: No, 100 Holy, Holy, Holy!... NICAEA WPROPHETIC LESSON: Isaiah 6:1-8... Ginni Fischer In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory! And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.

And I said: Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts! Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for. And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here I am! Send me. DOXOLOGY.... His sovereign majesty may we in glory see, And to eternity love and adore. WPRAYER OF DEDICATION EPISTLE LESSON...Colossians 2:20-23 (page 984 in the pew Bible) All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field; The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God will stand forever. Amen. (Isaiah 40:6b, 8) HOMILY Free from Religion D. Todd Erickson

WINVITATION TO THE TABLE The Liturgy of the Table All those who have publicly professed their faith and joined a Christian church as a communing member are warmly welcomed to receive communion today. Non-communing worshipers are encouraged to contemplate the love of Jesus Christ during this time. At Second Presbyterian, we encourage our children not to take communion until they have joined the church as communicant members. We do, however, encourage non-communing children to come forward with their parents to receive a blessing. Those wishing to be served communion together as a group or family, please stand together in front of the two serving elders before taking the elements. Gluten-free communion bread is available upon request from the elder at the east side of the transverse aisle (opposite from the door leading to the Connector). WPROFESSION OF FAITH.... The Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead; I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. WGLORIA PATRI.... GREATOREX Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, World without end. Amen, Amen! CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION Holy and gracious Father, we confess that we have failed to love You with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Though Jesus prayed that we should be one, we confess that we fail to live in unity with each other and with You. We break our communion through impure thoughts, harsh words, and unkind actions. Forgive our sin and heal us so that we may reflect Your unity and majesty and serve You faithfully all of our days through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. INDIVIDUAL PRAYERS OF CONFESSION ASSURANCE OF DIVINE PARDON WORDS OF INSTITUTION

PRAYER OF CONSECRATION AND THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. SHARING THE BREAD AND THE CUP For those unable to come forward for communion, please raise your hand and an elder will serve you in your seat. Throughout this time of communion, we invite you to join in singing the hymns below. Come, Ye Sinners, Poor and Wretched... BRYN CALFARIA (Refer to music on page 472 in the Hymnal) Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched, weak and wounded, sick and sore; Jesus ready stands to save you, full of pity joined with pow r: He is able, He is able, He is able, He is willing; doubt no more; He is willing; doubt no more. Come, ye needy, come and welcome, God s free bounty glorify; True belief and true repentance, ev ry grace that brings you nigh, Without money, without money, without money, Come to Jesus Christ and buy; come to Jesus Christ and buy. Come, ye weary, heavy laden, bruised and broken by the fall; If you tarry till you re better, you will never come at all: Not the righteous, not the righteous, not the righteous Sinners Jesus came to call; sinners Jesus came to call. Let not conscience make you linger, nor of fitness fondly dream; All the fitness He requireth is to feel your need of Him; This He gives you, this He gives you, this He gives you; Tis the Spirit s rising beam; tis the Spirit s rising beam. Lo! th incarnate God, ascended, pleads the merit of His blood; Venture on Him, venture wholly, let no other trust intrude: None but Jesus, none but Jesus, none but Jesus Can do helpless sinners good, can do helpless sinners good. Marvelous Grace of Our Loving Lord..................................... MOODY (Refer to music on page 465 in the Hymnal) Marvelous grace of our loving Lord, Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt, Yonder on Calvary s mount outpoured, There where the blood of the Lamb was spilt. Grace, grace, God s grace, Grace that will pardon and cleanse within; Grace, grace, God s grace, Grace that is greater than all our sin. Sin and despair like the sea waves cold, Threaten the soul with infinite loss; Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold, Points to the Refuge, the mighty cross. Dark is the stain that we cannot hide, What can avail to wash it away? Look! there is flowing a crimson tide; Whiter than snow you may be today. Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace, Freely bestowed on all who believe; You that are longing to see His face, Will you this moment His grace receive?

Jesus at Your Holy Table...BEACH SPRING Jesus at Your holy table may our hearts united be. Bind us with Your grace and presence that redeem and set us free. Crucify our pride and hatred; light the path on which we walk. Teach us how to love each other in the way that You have taught. Christ remind us of Your passion, of Your precious life outpoured; Of the love which none can fathom and our vict ry evermore. Bread of heaven, wine of promise, feed us with Your holy Word. Nourish us with Your strong presence, risen Savior, only Lord. Lift your hearts and raise your voices, celebrate this wondrous love. Join the chorus with all Christians and with saints who live above. Silent lips now sing with gladness, blinded eyes are filled with sight. Jesus love has pierced our darkness, bro t us home to peace and light. The Power of the Cross... Keith Getty O, to see the dawn of the darkest day Christ on the road to Calvary. Tried by sinful men, torn and beaten, then Nailed to a cross of wood. This, the pow r of the cross: Christ became sin for us; Took the blame, bore the wrath we stand forgiven at the cross. O, to see the pain written on Your face, Bearing the awesome weight of sin. Ev ry bitter thought, ev ry evil deed Crowning Your bloodstained brow. This, the pow r of the cross: Christ became sin for us; Took the blame, bore the wrath we stand forgiven at the cross. Now the daylight flees; now the ground beneath Quakes as its Maker bows His head. Curtain torn in two, dead are raised to life; Finished! the vict ry cry. This, the pow r of the cross: Son of God, slain for us. What a love! What a cost! We stand forgiven at the cross. PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING WHYMN OF COMMITMENT....Keith Getty O, to see my name written in the wounds, For through Your suffering I am free. Death is crushed to death; life is mine to live, Won through Your selfless love. This, the pow r of the cross: Christ became sin for us; Took the blame, bore the wrath we stand forgiven at the cross.
