What does the word home mean to yo? Beyond a physical strctre, home may be a sense of safety and familiarity, a sense of belonging, or a sense of knowing that yo are cared for. Some of s may still be seeking home; many in or commnity and beyond are aching for it. This sense of home is present in God s overflowing and nconditional love for s, not only providing secrity and acceptance, bt also empowering s to share God s love and serve others. Or Stewardship theme this year is Finding Home, becase yor pledge to Westminster will strengthen this sense of home among s, welcome others to find their home with s, and help others find their home throgh s. Or commitment to welcoming, spporting and protecting or immigrant neighbors contines to expand, and or bildings and gronds reqire pkeep in order to host annal events like the PACEM homeless shelter and special events like the Parkland stdents March for Or Lives and the Beyond Pink and Ble conference. Finding home also incldes spport for or pastors to preach the Word of God, administer the sacraments, provide corageos witness to love in the face of hate, and lead, teach and empower s to serve Christ and share God s love. In 2019, we will call a new Associate Pastor to lead or social jstice and University ministries. This will reqire a significant financial commitment. Beyond these works, there are contless other ways yor faithfl generosity will gide s and or neighbors home in 2019. The following pages give a glimpse of the ways in which we may all find home.
Yor pledge helps s and or neighbors find home throgh: Worshiping God together and relating God s Word to or lives and the world arond s throgh celebration, reflection, reverence, prayer and msic; Singing to the glory of God with the help of or wonderfl msic leaders, three choirs, and talented msicians; Organizing joyos events like or smmer concert series and mltigenerational msical; Maintaining or Taylor & Boody pipe organ and pianos; Spporting Westminster s Lectreship Series with speakers like the Reverend Floyd Thompkins and Professor Valerie Cooper; Welcoming visitors and new members to Westminster; Spporting or new lay readers program, or shers, and helping maintain the pews and sond system in or Sancary. Yor pledge helps s and or neighbors find home throgh: Christian Edcation Helping one another grow in faith across generations; Spporting over 20 Christian edcation teachers who have heard and responded to God s call to work with Westminster s yong people; Helping or yoth gather in safe, trsting, loving environments to explore their faith and make new chrch friends; Spporting the week-long Jorney to Adlthood (J2A) Pilgrimage for or 9th and 10th graders and the Yong Adlts in the Chrch (YAC) Mission Trip for or 11th and 12th graders; Staffing the chrch nrsery; Providing edcational opportnities for adlts that help them grow spiritally and respond to needs within the wider world; Spporting the Opening Doors class and or Tesday evening Bible stdy.
Yor pledge helps s and or neighbors find home throgh: Or Pastors and Deacons who provide spirital, emotional, and physical spport to members of the congregation; Home visits, commnion for the home-bond, and lifting each other p throgh prayer; Meals prepared for families experiencing illness, loss, or the birth of a child and providing transportation to those who need rides to and from chrch and medical appointments; Or prayer shawl ministry which provides a tangible expression of care and concern to members of or congregation; Fellowship activities throghot the year, inclding Snday Fellowship Hor, Fellowship on Tap, CROP Walk Lnch, Shrove Tesday Pancake Dinner, Mandy Thrsday Spper, Worship in the Cortyard, Thanksgiving Pot-lck at Common Gronds, the smmer Pickin and Picknickin event, the Adlt Lncheon, the new Member Picnic and, new this year, the Men s Breakfast Grop and dinner conversation grops. Yor pledge helps s and or neighbors find home throgh: Mission & Otreach Advocating for God s jstice in Charlottesville and the wider commnity; Sharing God s love with stdents, faclty and staff at the University throgh meals, volnteering at Common Gronds, and active participation in the many UKirk programs; Working for jstice involving isses of gender identity and sexal orientation; Addressing specific and systemic problems associated with racism in or commnity; Spporting the work of or Presbytery and or many mission partners, providing benevolences of 20% of or pledges to organizations like the Alliance for Interfaith Ministry, Habitat for Hmanity, IMPACT, PROSAMI, The Haven, and scholarships for or Child Care Center; Spporting and advocating for inmates in or area jails and prisons; Helping the Green Team maintain or stats as an Earth Care Congregation; Maintaining bildings and gronds so that we can provide space for grops like AA and La Leche.
Step In! Step Up! Stewardship is sing gifts God has entrsted to s to do God s work in the world, to love God and or neighbors. Throgh this, we worship God. Giving grows or faith. Yor financial commitment to Westminster provides the resorces necessary to spport or mission and ministries. Westminster is blessed to have very generos members and friends. In 2018, 237 hoseholds made a financial pledge. If yo have not pledged before or have not done so recently, we ask yo to give faithfl consideration to Step In to to love God and or neighbors throgh or ministries and sstain or active congregation. If yo reglarly pledge thank yo! As yo consider yor pledge for 2019, we ask that yo prayerflly consider whether yo cold Step Up and increase yor pledge to a level that reflects the many blessings that God has bestowed pon yo. With yor pledge, yo will spport Finding Home in God s love, acceptance and forgiveness.
