In addition to the house itself, there is also a separate kitchen and garage and boys quarters. A well and sinking water pump are in the works to complete the plumbing and bring water to the area. Also the power company has been paid and is now challenged to bring poles and lines out to the village to complete the electricity project. The number of people with electricity in their homes is around 10%. He shared with us some food for thought as he is ever looking ahead to the next need or project. There are two health clinics in the area that our Pastor Fr. Saulos is in charge of running in addition to his leadership of the parish and pastors duties. The future may involve the renovation of the old rectory into a convent to accommodate the nuns/sisters who would be invited to take over the management of the clinics. As a future possible project we may find ourselves supporting this. Questions? Marie Hedden 206-948-5166. PAGE 3

OLD TESTAMENT Joshua is Chosen to Lead Numbers 27: 12-23 Moses led the people of Israel out of Egypt and into the Promised Land of Cana. During the long trip, the people often complained about the food or about the lack of water. God always led them to water and always provided food. You can read in Numbers 20: 7-13 that Moses and his brother Aaron were told one time to speak to a certain rock. God planned to send fresh water out of the rock. They were to glorify God in front ll the people. However, Moses and Aaron struck the rock, pretending that they were providing water by their own power. Because of this disobedience, Moses was not allowed to enter the Promised Land. Joshua became the next leader. NEW TESTAMENT The Passion According to Matthew. Matthew 27 Here are events of Jesus s Passion as recorded in Matthew 26 & 27. Chapter 27: verses 1-2 Jesus is condemned to death. ***3-10 Judas is sorry for betraying Jesus and commits suicide. Temple rulers buy a field to bury him in. ***11-19 Jesus meets with Pilate the governor. Pilate s wife tries to convince Pilate not to harm Jesus. ***14-16 Temple rulers convince Pilate to kill Jesus in exchange for Barabbas, a prisoner who fought against the Romans. ***27-31 Jesus is crowned with thorns by the Roman soldiers. ***32-24 Simon from Cyrene is forced to help carry the cross. ***35-44 Jesus is crucified. People make fun of him. ***44-56 Jesus dies. An earthquake follows his death. ***57-66 Jesus is buried by friends. Pilate sets a guard over the tomb. LEARNING ABOUT OUR FAITH Divine Office, Liturgy of the Hours People who devote their life to prayer are the heroes of the Church. There is a special book called Christian Prayer that many people use, especially priests, bishops, deacons, and religious (monks, brothers, sisters). Everyone can learn how to pray the Divine Office, also called Liturgy of the Hours. In this day of internet access, many Catholics receive daily readings for the Liturgy of the Hours by googling Liturgy of the Hours. Kids Alphabet Soup U is for UZZIAH, one of the faithful kings of Judah. U is for URIAH, a loyal soldier who was wronged by King David. PAGE 4

SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE SUNDAY & SPIRITUAL ADOPTION OF UNBORN BABIES This weekend on Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, we will once again begin the program called Spiritual Adoption of Unborn Children. This is a special program to help us all act upon our church s teaching that all life is wanted and sacred. We are all invited to Spiritually adopt a child who has been newly conceive this month by praying daily for one of these children over the next 9 months. Simply say Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen s prayer: Jesus Mary & Joseph, I love you very much, I beg you to spare the life of the unborn child that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger bortion. Watch the bulletin each month and check the kiosk in the Narthex with a beautiful picture showing the fetal development of our spiritually adopted child. After nine months of prayers, we will celebrate the births by having a baby shower at which gifts will be collected to help local mothers in need. We hope to have many parishioners join this program to save God s unborn children. Please stop by the Respect Life Table after Mass to pick up your prayer card and add your spiritually adopted baby's name to the heart of children bring prayed for. The power of prayer is tremendous, you can make a difference for life! PAGE 6

Jesus makes it clear that it matters not how much one gives, but that it is planned, calculated, at least somewhat sacrificial (see Luke 24:1-4), and not simply from what is leftover at the end of the month. We propose the tithe (10%) as the ideal every family can consider working towards. This means taking steps to give 5% to one s parish, and 5% to other charities or causes you have personal passion for.
