THE CAPSTONE E-NEWSLETTER SHILOH The Capstone BAPTIST E-Newsletter CHURCH NEW SITE Page 1 THIS COULD BE ANYONE WHO MIGHT BENEFIT FROM IT, SUCH AS THOSE INTERESTED IN A PRODUCT. July 2018 Edition GROWING THE CHURCH (The Spiritual Body of Christ, and You) TRUTH By Deacon Moses C. Brooks BIBLE SCRIPTURE: John 8:32 (KJV) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. INSIDE THIS ISSUE Growing in the Church 1-2 Vacation Bible School 3-5 Usher Ministry Update 6 The Men s Ministry 7-8 The Sermons at the Church 9-10 Save the Date 11 Celebrating July Birthdays 12 ALLEGORY: At Sunday morning breakfast, a Christian parent of a teen-age high school student, reminded him that if he accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and attended Church, he would go to heaven when he died. The son responded that according to Astrology, and Bible scripture, planet Earth is one of several known worlds that exist in the First Heaven, among other known worlds, including, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. So, are you trying to tell me that I need to prepare now, to go to where I am already, when I die? TRUTH: The dictionary defines Truth as being facts that are indisputable, because they have been verified, and proven to conform with reality, or what really happened. Consequently, one s ability to distinguish between Facts and Truth involves the application of knowledge that has been established by the systematic organization of information known as Science. The annals of history reveal that mankind s ability to communicate in a written language began some 2500 years before Christ among the African people (Egyptians), who discovered papyrus and ink, and built the first libraries. Some 2170 years later (330 B.C.) when a Greek named Alexander the Great, led the defeat of the Persian Empire, and all nations on Earth were ruled by the Greek Empire, the Greeks advanced what the Africans (Egyptians) had begun, by collecting and assembling facts, that became the science of Philosophy, or the search for truth. Generations of mankind for centuries had lived under a cloud of superstition concerning facts. Truth resulted in the mind being set free from

Page 2 Growing in the Church cont. ignorance, or the absence of knowledge that had imprisoned it. Before Jesus ministry of salvation for mankind began in A.D. 30, the science of philosophy (search for truth) had revealed sin to be the destructive spiritual power of Satan in opposition to God, aimed at diverting the mind from truth, and when it succeeds, it dooms mankind to eternal damnation. Bible scriptures reveal that God promised to send a Messiah to Earth, to save mankind from Satan s power, and Jesus was the fulfillment of that promise. There had been others among mankind on Earth who had claimed to be the Messiah, and proven to be false, because the prophets had foretold that certain signs would reveal the true Messiah. Some people during Jesus day, recognized the miracles and wonders that Jesus performed, as signs that Jesus was the Messiah, and declared the truth, that Jesus was the Messiah. There were others during Jesus day, particularly among the Jewish religious leaders, who refused to accept Jesus as the Messiah, and denied the truth, claiming themselves to be the chosen sons of God, because of their blood relationship with Abraham. Jesus said they were the sons of Satan because their works proved it. Consequently, the truth about salvation is the fact that it is a spiritual condition that occurs in the mind when individuals acknowledge the existence of Satan, and sin as Satan s destructive power that imprisons the mind. Satan s power is broken when individuals accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. However, Satan does not give up his attack on the individual, therefore, in order not to be conformed to the world of Satan, the individual must be transformed by the renewing of the mind and striving to live as God wants us to live, by emulating Jesus. That is why Church attendance, Bible study, and Sunday school are imperative, and necessary for spiritual growth and maturity. Salvation is a new life in Christ that enables one to experience a state of blessedness and exalted happiness here on Earth. It is a return to what Adam and Eve experienced in the Garden of Eden before sin caused their downfall. The Garden of Eden was Heaven on Earth. Although planet Earth is in the First Heaven, and death is not the end of mankind s existence, mankind needs salvation to continue life on the new Earth. Accepting God s salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and Church indoctrination, are tantamount to citizenship in the New Earth of Revelation 21:1-2: you must first decide to become a citizen of the New Earth; and your decision to live in the New Earth requires you to know the laws of the New Earth, to live in harmony among the citizens of the New Earth.

Page 3 Vacation Bible School On June 18-22, 2018, Shiloh Baptist Church New Site held its annual Vacation Bible School. This year s theme was Game On! Gearing Up for Life s Big Game ; Theme Verse: His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3. The daily lessons consisted of: Day 1: Jesus Cares About Me Day 2: Jesus Gives Me Hope Day 3: Jesus Helps Me Believe Day 4: Jesus Loves Me Day 5: Jesus Gives Me Joy The SBCNS youth, family members and friends spent the week worshipping together using the motto Gear up! Get ready! Game On! The youth also studied God s word and sang His praises to learn and to know that God has given them His ultimate playbook. He wants them to join His team, train hard, celebrate salvation, and encourage one another. They also had the opportunity to enjoy crafts, music and recreation while praising the lord. Each attendee was provided a Game On! t-shirt as a keepsake. On Friday, June 22nd during the closing ceremony there was a special balloon launch that every attendee had the opportunity to participate in. On Sunday July 8 th, Pastor Parrish shared with the congregation that one balloon traveled as far as New Jersey and the recipient sent a letter to the church acknowledging that he had found the balloon on his lawn, what an awesome testimony for our church. Special thanks once again to Sis. Carolyn Oglesby for serving as the Vacation Bible School coordinator once again; as well as the teachers, registrations team, Culinary Ministry, Communications Ministry, Trustee Ministry, Recreation Ministry, Security Ministry and the Crossing Guards that kept us safe every night. Thanks to all who attended, and all others involved in making the 2018 Vacation Bible School a success.

Page 9 THE SERMONS AT THE CHURCH DID YOU HEAR WHAT I HEARD? By Deacon Moses C. Brooks, Reporter In institutions of higher learning beyond the high school level of education, individuals must pay to hear professors lecture on subjects imperative to receiving credits for courses of study that are awarded to those who successfully pass tests. The professors seldom advise students to take notes from lectures that may be essential for their understanding of the subject matter and may be necessary for additional research. Professors appear to be of the mindset that if students elect to waste their time and money attending classes to no avail, it is their privilege. However, students who are serious about their education, will take notes on lectures because they know that they may not remember all that the professors says in their lectures, and they know they will be tested, so many students form study groups before exam time, and compare notes taken at lectures, to ascertain that they heard what the professors said. By the same token, it seems a waste of individuals time to attend Church Sunday after Sunday, setting in pews, listening to sermons without taking notes of what is being preached, for remembrance and application for daily living. While it may be that they have heard it all before, or they are able to remember what is being preached, it appears to be a form of worship, rather than an opportunity for enhancing spiritual growth and Christian maturity, based upon the examples that some Christians reveal in their living. On Sunday June 3, 2018, at the 10:00 a.m. Worship Service, our Pastor, Minister Dr. Anthony A. Parrish Sr. preached from 1 Corinthians 10:31 on the subject, To His Glory, and began with a statement on the meaning of Excellence that he explained as going beyond the defined limits, to emphasize what Jesus did for mankind by his death on the cross, and our need to strive for excellence in our daily living. DID YOU HEAR WHAT I HEARD?

Page 10 Church Sermon Recap: Did you Hear What I Heard? cont. On Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the 10:00 a.m. Worship Service, our Pastor, Minister Dr. Anthony A. Parrish Sr. preached from Matthew 5: 14-16 on the subject, Jesus the Light of the World, and began with the statement that people are amazed at what they see in the skies during the evening hours, as the splendor of God s creation, to emphasize what the world should see in us, from our Christian living, that emulates Christ. DID YOU HEAR WHAT I HEARD? On Sunday, June 24, 2018 during the 10:00 a.m. Worship Service, Associate Minister Devin Waiters preached from Joshua 24:14-31, on the charge that God gave to Joshua to lead his chosen people, the nation of Israel, to possess the Promise Land, to emphasize the charge that Jesus has given to Christian believers to emulate Christ in their daily living. DID YOU HEAR WHAT I HEARD? On Sunday, July 1, 2018 during the 10:00 a.m. Worship Service our Pastor, Dr. Anthony A. Parrish Sr., preached from John 6:36 on the subject, Jesus, Our Wonder Bread, and began with reference to Jesus miracle of feeding 5,000 people with two fish and five small loaves of bread that a boy happened to have while following the crowd that was following Jesus, to emphasize what faith can do for those who believe in Jesus Christ, as Wonder Bread that will satisfy all our needs in life. DID YOU HEAR WHAT I HEARD?
