What is this source about? What www.historyrevision.wordpress.com are the key details?

Helmet on ready to fight Holding whole world greedy for power internationally Globe centred on Europe His plans are focused on thispart of the world. Cartoon appearance makes Kaiser look ridiculous and greedy

QB The question will give you a source. It will ask if it agrees with a statement. You need to decide if it agrees or not. Is it reliable enough to agree? Can you trust it? Does it agree with your knowledge? You then need to make a judgement and give a reason.

Source B gives one viewpoint on what the Big Threewanted to happen to Germany after WW1. Do you agree that this was the main thing that the Big Three wanted? (6) SOURCE B Lloyd George giving a speech on 11 th December 1918, in Bristol. We poposeto propose demand d the whole oe cost of the war from Germany. Germany must pay to the last farthing. www.historyrevision.wordpress.com

You need to think about: Does it agree with your knowledge of the topic? What does the source show or say? What do you know about the topic? Does the source match your knowledge? Can you trust the viewpoint of the source? NOP What type of source is it and does that t affect the message? Who made it and why did they make it? When did they make it? Is the date important? What was happening then? THEN REACH A JUDGEMENT ABOUT THE QUESTION

Remember: ature. This means what type of source is it, and how that affects the message. For example, a cartoon will present a message differently to a speech. You need to mention this. rigin. This means where the source originates from, and how that affects the message. Was it written before, during or after the event? Was it from a country that was involved on one side? Did the person writing really know what was going on? urpose. This means why the source was made. What did the creator want you to think, do or believe when you read it? Did they want to convince you of their opinion, or justify something they have done or will do? Did they want to look tough?

Source B gives one viewpoint on what the Big Threewanted to happen to Germany after WW1. Do you agree that this was the main thing that the Big Three wanted? (6) www.historyrevision.wordpress.com SOURCE B Lloyd George giving a speech on 11 th December 1918, in Bristol. We poposeto propose demand d the whole oe cost of the war from Germany. Germany must pay to the last farthing.

Key things to mention in a full mark answer: Lloyd George isclaimingthat he wants to drainevery penny fromgermany to make them pay the whole cost of the war little quotes are useful. This should match your knowledge that Britain as a whole wanted a punishment for Germany, though you should also remember that some British and Americans such as Wilson wanted to be more gentle on Germany to prevent future problems. You might even remember the name Keynes or mention some other knowledge you have revised... So you know that it only partly matches your knowledge as it does not really reflect the whole Big three. It is dated straight after WW1 so tensions were still high and the British public were angry with Germany. Therefore it seems more aggressive. It is a political speech in an election campaign, so it will have been written to gain votes. Ifthe public wanted revenge, then Lloyd George would haveto promiseitit to win the vote. It is probably different to if he wrote his diary on the topic, etc. So overall, it partly matches your knowledge from your revision but is a bit more extreme than Lloyd George really felt due to the date and purpose/nature of the source. Therefore it was ONE of the things that the Big Three wanted, but allowing that Lloyd George did not really feel this strong about Germany, and that USA certainly did not, we cannot say that it is the MAIN thing that the Big Three wanted to happen to Germany.

Source C gives a reason why the LON did not stop Italy invading Abyssinia. Do you agree that this was the main reason that the LON did not step in? (6) www.historyrevision.wordpress.com SOURCE C A newspaper from the Guardian in November 1935
