In addition to the Sir Knight of the Year award, PGK Andrew Eckstein also awarded the Faithful Navigator Colour Guard award to Sir Knight Stephen Hoo for his regular and faithful (Continued on page 3) GENERAL MEETING Wednesday September 19, 2018 7:30 pm Marian Hall Inside the 4th News: Faithful Navigator Report pg. 2 Awards Night pg. 3 Faithful Pilot s Report pg 4 New Sir Knights pg. 5 Faithful Captain s Rpt. pg. 6 Birthdays/ Anniversaries pg. 6 Colour Guard Events pg. 7 Calendar of Events pg. 8

FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR S REPORT Page 2 S.K. Ron Sullivan Sir Knights, this is first report to you as your Faithful Navigator. I thought I would begin by giving you a picture of my back ground as a Knight of Columbus. As parishioners of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, the Knights were holding a recruitment drive at the parish and I signed up as I was interested to find out what the Knights were all about. After signing up we were contacted, and arrangements made for a visit by knights to our home. The purpose of the visit was to explain what the knights were about and to evaluate whether I was a suitable candidate and that my wife agreed with my becoming a member of the Knights. I passed the interview and I was on my way to becoming a knight. I completed my 3 rd degree in November of 1965 and have been a consistent member since. I joined the newly formed 1 st council in Mississauga, John F. Kennedy Council 5523 serving in many offices such as Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Deputy Grand Knight, Grand Knight and 6 Points Chairman. As Grand Knight my first pressing act was to find a new location for our council as our current location, the old St Patrick s Church located on the corner of Dundas and Dixie Rd was due to be demolished. After meeting with the pastor of the new Saints Martha and Mary Parish JFK Council moved there in 1970. Over the years the council has contributed to expansion of this church through years of bingo. It was not until 2004 that I transferred to Marian Council 3881. When Mary Mother of God Council was formed I became a charter member. Later after we left Mary Mother of God Parish and rejoined St Michael Parish I transferred back to Marian Council as Mary Mother of God Council is a parish council. In all my years I never considered becoming a 4 th Degree Knight as I found I was always busy with the 3 rd. However, as this activity eventually slowed I wanted to end my years of membership by becoming a 4 th Degree Knight, the final step in completing all degrees. Like many of you who have joined the 4 th it was my intention to serve a s a senior member of the knights and contribute to the patriot mandate. I did not see myself serving in the Honour Guard and I wanted to contribute in other ways. I came to the realization that the Honour Guard is a very integral part of being a 4 th Member. However, I did see there were other ways to serve. Having been elected Faithful Navigator, I have become a member of the honour guard as I feel that in this position it is preferably that I participate fully. I must tell you that my election as Faithful Navigator was a complete surprise and I am not sure I was elected because I did attend some meetings, did serve as a trustee, made a presentation to a school on Remembrance Day or there was no else available. Whatever the reason it is my intention to serve to the best of my ability and in doing so I would extend an invitation to all members of Bishop Reding Assembly to attend a couple of meetings this new fraternal year. Over the last 8 years I have probably met or seen 30 or so members of our assembly, I would like to meet a few more of you, there are activities we need help with, you do not need to be a member of the Honour Guard to serve in the Patriotic Degree, the assembly needs your help and presence. September 19 th is the installation of officers, our District Master will be here to officiate, a very brief meeting will follow and then a social time to meet Danyl Lohin Master of District 8. It would be most assuring to see and meet as many of you as possible not only on September 19 th but at some of our regular meetings held on the 3 rd Wednesday of each month. Vivat Jesus Ron Sullivan, Faithful Navigator, Bishop Reding Assembly 1981
