Faith Nurturing Once upon a time I was asked to lead a workshop for a regional leadership event in a church that was unfamiliar to me. When I arrived, I went searching for the room that was assigned to me, so I could unload the car with all the aids and handouts that I had prepared. As I carried the box of resources to the room an eight-year-old boy held the door open for me. When I got everything arranged he came into my room and showed me a brand-new toy car that he had just received that morning. I suspected his mother gave it to entertain him while she hosted the meeting. As we visited I learned that he collected toy cars. He learned that I did not possess any toy cars. When the meeting was over and people had left there, he was waiting to hold the door open for me. I thanked him for his thoughtfulness and said my goodbye. Then, he reached out and gave me his new car. He told me he wanted me to have it, since I did not have one. I told him I couldn t keep it, but he insisted. I took his brand-new toy and went in search of his mother to return it to her. I am not sure what people learned about faith in my workshop, but what I learned from this generous little boy is that relationship is giving without counting the cost. This is what God did and that is what the Lord expects of us. Dr. Jim Advent Devotional Book The worship committee is putting together an advent devotional book using devotions that you submit. You are invited to contribute to the booklet by either writing a brief devotion about the meaning of Christmas or a Christmas tradition that your family observes. It should contain a scripture and a prayer to go along with your thought. Turn it into the church office before November 18 th.
