Psalm 107:1 Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to gather with family and friends and reflect on the blessings of the last year. Many of us experience renewed hope and faith during the Thanksgiving holiday because we turn our eyes onto what is most important. What if we spent time each day giving thanks and prayer? How could God grow our faith and trust if we lived a life of thanks through all seasons and not just Thanksgiving time? When gratitude fills your heart, there is little room to worry or complain. If God can rest, there is no excuse that we cannot take 24 hours off to rest... to rest with God. Food Cupboard Matthew 25:35-40. God calls us to help those in need. By loving others, we also express our love for God. Many are in financial crisis right now and by supplying something as simple as food, more money can be saved for bills, more time can be spent looking for a job and more peace can be provided. Operation Christmas Child The gift of the shoeboxes will soon be underway. Ann Hamaker will have shoeboxes and pamphlets at church as of next Sunday. All shoeboxes are to be returned no later than Sunday 11 November. World Food Day On Tuesday October 16, millions of people around the world will gather at marathons, exhibitions, concerts and marches to observe World Food Day. Initiated by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) it is one of the most recognized days of the UN calendar. What can you do? Pray Give Learn Advocate Volunteer Opportunities Our community thrives because each of us contributes not only dollars, but also our hands, hearts, and time to building and sustaining the community in which we make our home. The more we each engage with the work of building community, the stronger our community becomes and the deeper the gifts we each receive from our participation. This is true in any congregation, but especially true in a small congregation like ours that depends on volunteer energy and effort. Greeters welcome people to morning services. Duties include welcoming people and especially newcomers, handing out bulletins, setting out wine and host for Communion, taking attendance and cleaning up. Greeters can choose the frequency with which they are scheduled. We are in need of more greeters. Counters work in teams of two to count and prepare the bank deposit for the collection. Do you like to keep things in order and work with numbers? We are in need of more counters. Counters can also choose the frequency with which they are scheduled. Messy Church is in need of volunteers to do one task only for one Messy Church only this fall. If you would like to help with food or a craft please see Kisha. Altar Guild members are entrusted with the care of many beautiful and sacred items used during worship services. Holy Communion vessels, altar linens, brass items, vestments, candles, and altar flower arrangements make up the articles one is privileged to assist in maintaining. In addition to being "God's housekeepers, the altar guild assists the clergy with each service by pre-setting and cleaning the altar. Please contact Neil, a member of Leadership or Lori in the office at office@stgeorgesanglicanchurch.org if you would be interested in volunteering or learning about volunteer opportunities. We would love to have you more involved! 2

L Oasis Musicale at Christ Church Cathedral Every Saturday at 4.30 pm throughout the year, you are warmly invited to attend a concert in the cathedral. The L Oasis Musicale weekly concert series supports and promotes local musicians, many of whom are studying at music colleges in Montreal and starting out on their career. The concerts are open to all and there is no entry charge and the Oasis team hope you will so enjoy the concert that you will be delighted to make a free-will offering of $10 to support the concert series, the artists and the mission of the cathedral. The concerts feature a range of musicians, from solo instrumentalists and singers to ensembles, small orchestras, and choirs. The repertoire is mainly classical music but occasionally you might hear some popular, folk, religious, or traditional music. Information on upcoming concerts can be found on the L Oasis Musicale Facebook page or website: https://www.facebook.com/oasismu sicale/ https://www.oasismusicale.ca/ L Oasis Musicale seeks to preserve and develop Christ Church Cathedral as an important spiritual and cultural venue in the heart of downtown, to attract new audiences to the concerts and new visitors to the cathedral, and to support and encourage local musicians. Saturday October 20-6:00 PM Food, friends, conversation, fun, and the chance to bid on a variety of beautiful prizes that will be available. Baskets, tickets, gift certificates and many more. Announcement from the Bishop September 10, 2018 Dear Colleagues, I wish to announce that I have appointed The Reverend Dr. Neil Mancor as Congregational Development Coordinator for the Diocese of Montreal, effective October 15th. Neil has served at St. George s, Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue for the last 10 years and has been the Regional Dean. Neil will work with parishes on congregational development and their financial stewardship. He will also oversee the Fresh Start Program with clergy and parishes and work with the Vicar General on the Post-Ordination training for new ordinands. Neil has training in Godly Play, Natural Church Development and Restorative Practice as well as Messy Church. Please pray for Neil and his family and parish in the transition. A reminder that the Ordination of deacons takes place on September 30 at 4pm at Christ Church Cathedral and that the colour of stole is white. I have appointed Joel Amis to serve as assistant curate in St. Michael and All Angels Parish, and Tania Lesack to serve as assistant curate for the Regional Ministry of the Laurentians. Jhon Steeker Saint-Clair will be ordained to the permanent Diaconate and will be based in Église de la Nativité. Financial Update Thank you for your commitment to meeting the ministry needs at St. George s. Nine months of the year has passed and we are on track with our projections thanks to many factors. However, the church is not staff, buildings or budgets; it is people you and me called and gifted by God, all of us unique and all of us needed. Trust God, and keep doing the ministry that God has entrusted to us.
