Page 2 With Burning Hearts We Proclaim the Good News June 11, 2017 FR. GÉRARD S CORNER Thunder, lightning, and law accompanied God s revelation to Moses on Sinai. But today, Exodus quotes God s own selfdescription: a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity (34:6). Paul presents this one God s trinity of personal manifestations: grace, love, fellowship - literally communion - qualities that should mark our own lives, both as a community and as individuals (cf. 2 Corinthians 13:13). John s Gospel proclaims God s plan as infinitely loving: God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him (John 3:17). In fact, when we proclaim the three Persons in prayer, we do not make a circular or triangular gesture that would visually connote the Trinity s eternal existence or equality of Persons. Rather, the specific sign by which we have come to know the nature of our Triune God is the sign of the self-sacrificing love of the second Person, Jesus, who took our human flesh so that we might be reborn to new life in the name of the Holy Trinity. So, although pronouncing the names of all three Persons, we trace over ourselves only the sign of Jesus cross. Moreover, from our Baptism and until our dying and the burial that follows, others who love us trace that same sign over us, hoping that by often speaking those three names while making that one sign, our lives will be shaped, day by day, year after year, to a truer image and likeness of God s own love. Whether it s an all-day camp or cabin sleepaway, kids can get out of the house, learn new skills, and make friends. Parents who send their kids off to camp should be sure to research the camp and the counselors who will be watching their kids. If your child is going to sleep-away camp, check in by phone or mail regularly. Ask questions and ensure that your child is safe and cared for at any camp. Currently, the fund provides for more than 100 priests who are retired. Over the next ten years, that number is expected to increase significantly. The Priest Retirement Fund offers us a way to give back to our Catholic priests who have served us so faithfully. Your contribution will help archdiocesan priests live modestly and peacefully in retirement. Help us offer thanks for their years of devotion to God, and faithful service to our parish communities. CHARISMATIC PRAYER GROUP ST. JOHN EUDES Join us on: June 14 (Wednesday) 7:15 p.m. SJE Church Topic: An Everlasting Love Speaker: Bro. Manny Delacruz In this unsettling world where security and love are at times hard to find, you can only but search deep within. St. Augustine had said, "Late have I loved you, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new, late have I loved you! You were within me, but I was outside, and it was there that I searched for you. In my unloveliness I plunged into the lovely things which you created. You were with me, but I was not with you." Perhaps it is the moment you've been waiting for to find God within and begin a walk in your life with the Spirit! So, come join us and discover the joy that comes with living a life in the Holy Spirit. Open to all parishioners of SJE and other parishes. For further information, please call: Imelda: 818-882-8962; Jazzy: 818-625-3386 FOREVER GRATEFUL SUMMER CAMP Send your child to the Circle V Ranch to participate in innovative and enriching outdoor experiences that build self-esteem, expand knowledge and appreciation of others, nature and God. Campers can participate in archery, arts & crafts, beach trip, campfires, hiking, music, nature appreciation, sports, swimming and more!
