FUN FACTS ABOUT OCTOBER The name October comes from the Latin numeral Octo meaning eight because in the original Roman calendar it was the eight month. It is the tenth month in the Gregorian calendar. October has 2 birth flowers, calendula and marigold. October birthstone is opal and tourmaline. Daylight savings time ends every year at 2:00A.M. Local time on the last Sunday of October. This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA Every Friday and Sunday morning, we have a visit from Jennifer (Merrily) Tardieu. She is the arts and crafts wizard and there is always a crowd around the table when she is here. Merrily does more than just arts and crafts. She brings her smile, she sings and talks and tells of all kinds of fun and interesting things. The happiest people are the ones who make others happy, thank you Merrily for making so many days brighter and always being such a positive person.

Father and Daughter Duo We had the pleasure of Iris Revson and her father, Sam recently. Her father has been in the entertainment business for many years, he also sings and plays harmonica. Iris always makes us smile and we look forward to seeing Sam again in the future! Baking, music, walking or having a manicure, there is always something going on in Cyrus. Pictured above L.to R. Muriel Brownstein, Vivian Arrante, Muriel Brownstein and Pauline Primo and Iris.

, UPCOMING HOLIDAYS & EVENTS Every Tuesday at 10:00AM is the bus ride with our driver and tour guide Felipe. Some of our favorite places are Dania Beach, Markham Park where we can watch the model airplanes flying and driving through Hollywood and looking at some of the homes. Cyrus recently turned into a Hawaiian paradise when residents had a Luau. Fresh cut pineapple, Hawaiian trivia, music by Don Ho and later in the afternoon music with Iris, was a big hit. Pictured above, Barbara West, Director Memory Care, Paulina Primo, resident and Sidney Brownstein, resident showing us his surfer moves. Every Sunday at noon, a prayer and communion is given in Cyrus. Gloria and Gene from St. Bernadette Church in Hollywood come and share their time with residents. If your loved one in Cyrus would like to participate, please see Holly or call at (754) 312-2733. Every Friday at 3:15 is Shabbot with David Presler in the Cyrus dining room. All are welcome to attend. Thursday, October 4 th will be an October Fest party in Cyrus. Join us for the celebration beginning at 2:30. Music and appetizers will be served. Please RSVP to Holly or Barbara at (754) 312-2733.

Congratulations to Carole Woolley for being selected as Employee of the Quarter at Cyrus. Recently, a luncheon celebration was held in her honor. She has been in the medical field for over 15 years and is also a med tech. Carole lives with her daughter and is always there when a helping hand is needed. She comes in to work with a smile and brings a smile to all the residents. Thank you Carole for all you do, it is appreciated! Photo above from Left to Right, Carole Woolley, Barbara West, Director of Cyrus and June Ritota, Executive Director. Cantor David Presler is now a weekly visitor at Cyrus every Friday for Shabbat. He has been serving the Jewish Community for over 25 years and earned his B.A. and M.S. in music education at Queens College. He plays the piano and sings opera, Broadway tunes and Jewish music. Shabbat begins Friday in the Cyrus dining room at the piano at 3:15. All are welcome to attend.

A recent visitor for Sidney Brownstein s birthday was his daughter Rhonda. Rhonda and her husband brought along a favorite guest, their fluffy dog J.J. Everyone celebrated with cake, balloons and Sidney enjoyed reminiscing and asking where the years have gone. We also celebrated Bertha Fishman s birthday and Stella Marquez. Happy Birthday everyone! You have to make up your mind at the start of the day, that nothing that comes your way is going to steal your joy. Joel Osteen
