I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free. Adult Study Group Central United s Adult Study Group was founded in 2000. We are a community of committed people who are curious and passionate about exploring and developing our individual spiritual journeys. We are also committed to addressing social and environmental issues local, national and global. This group, whose membership has evolved to include people beyond Central s congregation, meets every Friday from 10:00 am to noon (September to May) in the Fellowship Room. Lively discussions are sure to happen. Fun, laughter and, most importantly, friendship are always present when we meet. Over the years, we have explored the ideas and reflections of theologians, philosophers and thinkers, using a variety of media. (See list on the website). The group s guiding values are: love, justice and compassion for all. Reading and discussion are essential for our spiritual journeys, but true growth requires action. We support a number of local, national and international aid organizations. Through the auspices of KIVA (a non-profit organization established to alleviate world poverty), we help make micro-loans available to recipients in underdeveloped parts of the world. In summary, we continue to focus on living lives that reflect our spiritual journeys, and on contributing both time and resources to our local community as well as to humanitarian issues further away. For more information, please contact the church office at: 902-634-4035. ************************************************************************************************* Christmas Macaroons Submitted by: Barbara Gerhardt 1/3 cup flour 2-1/2 cups flaked sweet coconut 1/8 th tsp. salt 1 tsp vanilla 2/3 cup sweet condensed milk Bake 350 oven. POEM: Things you can control: Your beliefs Your attitude Your thoughts Your perspective How honest you are Who your friends are What books you read How often you exercise The type of food you eat How many risks you take How you interpret situations How kind you are to others How kind you are to yourself How often you say I love you How often you say thank you How you express your feelings Whether or not you ask for help How often you practice gratitude How many times you smile today The amount of effort you put forth How you spend / invest your money How much time you spend worrying How often you think about your past Whether or not you judge other people Whether or not you try again after a setback How much you appreciate the things you have. (Poem by Ruben Chavez)
