In 1999, the pastors Dr. Wayne Poplin and Rev. Jim Russell saw the need of ministry to different ethnic groups in the community. Rev. David Lee, a Chinese missionary in Japan at the time, was invited to come to Charlotte for the formation and development of Ministry to Chinese and Japanese. Carmel Baptist Church Chinese Ministry was officially founded in 2000. In the past 10 years, Rev. and Mrs. Lee have devoted themselves whole-heartedly to shepherd and nurture this ministry. Why Carmel Chinese Ministry?
Why Carmel Chinese Ministry? However, this growth has slowed down some in the past 2-3 years. More and more Chinese people joined Charlotte Chinese community in the recent years, but the attendance to Church has not increased as expected, remaining relatively stable. At the 10-year anniversary of this Chinese ministry, Rev. Lee and other fellow Chinese coworkers began to have a new vision for the Chinese Ministry. We are eager to spread the Gospel to more and more Chinese in Charlotte and build a stronger Chinese church. After longtime prayer and discussion, we see clearly that this ministry was from God and has been blessed by God.
Why Carmel Chinese Ministry? It has not only led more than 200 Chinese people to God, but also trained a group of disciples. Now, the Chinese congregation has become the spiritual home for many Chinese. The development of this ministry in the past years has realized the initial vision: people from different ethnic groups coming together here to worship one and the only God. More importantly, it formed a solid foundation for a bigger Chinese church. With no doubt, God will accomplish more through this church.
