Saugus CATHOLICS SAINT MARGARET BLESSED SACRAMENT TWO PARISHES, ONE FOCUS ON CHRIST 2018 Annual Report
A MESSAGE FROM FR. TIM Dear Parishioner, Given that we are all God s children, everyone is welcome at our parishes regardless of status in the Church, regardless of marital status, regardless of prior religious experience, personal history, background, or orientation: Everyone is invited, accepted, and respected at both Saint Margaret and Blessed Sacrament Parishes of Saugus. We are a Roman Catholic faith community. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we worship God the Father by imitating Jesus His son. Strengthened by the Eucharist and the proclamation of the Gospel, we strive to bring all people closer to God by evangelizing through the corporal and spiritual works of mercy and lifelong faith formation. Both of these statements proclaim the tone with which the Pastoral Staff and I go about, with the guidance of the Spirit, building The City of God. As we come together in liturgy we celebrate our heritage, the unconditional love of God, we are fed in Word and Sacrament and we are sent forth to live what we have celebrated. As we look to the needs of the community we initiate programs of spirituality, education and service to strengthen us in our resolve to be like Christ and continue his mission. We have expanded our staff to be able to reach out to areas that call for our attention. As we look down the road we hope to be able to expand the staff further that we might be better able to reach out to other areas of concern. These initiatives are undertaken to reach out to others as Christ would have us; witnessing to the ways of God as people looking for direction and healing. This report is presented to you to let you know where we stand and where we would like to be. Obviously we can not build The City of God with out your help. We are asking you to prayerfully consider how you can best share your time treasure and talent. May God bless you and our efforts as we go about living his word and following his guidance. Sincerely in the Lord, Rev. Timothy J. Kelleher 2

LOVE SERVE CONNECT + Youth Ministry seeks to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person. + Youth Ministry seeks to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and the work of the faith community. + Youth Ministry empowers young people to become disciples of Jesus Christ who witness to their faith by living and working for justice, peace, and human dignity. Saugus Catholics Youth is the response of our Christian community to the specific needs of young people, and the sharing of the unique gifts of the youth with the larger community. Youth Ministry in the Saugus Catholics Collaborative is relational, multidimensional, holistic, and people-centered. Adolescence is a significant time in the development of the human person. Our collaborative community has an important role in building assets in youth and assisting youth to successfully complete the developmental task particular to adolescence. The presence of young people at our parish is a sign of hope and a great gift to us. Saugus Catholics Youth strives to promote quality programs, healthy relationships and functions for youth in grades 7-12. This inclusive ministry provides faith formation, social activities, retreats, and service projects as well as leadership training and mentoring. We offer many opportunities for our youth to grow within the Catholic community and with Jesus. Youth Ministry also supports and helps strengthens families through its comprehensive programs, services, and resources. The Youth Ministry process happens when a variety of people, through a team approach, share with one another their stories and their lives. By doing so, they share the story of our Creator.

Saugus Catholics Collaborative Summary of Financial Results Dear Parishioner, As our logo states, the Saugus Catholics Collaborative is made up of two unique parishes with one focus on our savior Jesus Christ. From a financial perspective however, it is important for you to know that both parishes maintain their own financial identity. All donations made to a parish remain within that parish and each parish is responsible for paying its own bills. Blessed Sacrament and Saint Margaret have their own finance councils advising Fr. Tim and keep separate financial statements. As the finance manager for the collaborative, I am pleased to report that due to the generosity of many parishioners at both parishes, our faith community remains on solid financial ground as we continue into our fifth year together. On the next few pages is a summary of the recent financial results for both parishes of our collaborative as well as our plan for the current year. Our fiscal year runs from July 1 st to the following June 30 th, so our most recent year ended on June 30, 2018. The good news is offertory donations at both parishes last year increased from the previous year and came in above our financial plan for last year. Offertory donations at Blessed Sacrament were up by 6% from the previous year and were also above plan by 6% as we assumed no increase in offertories at either parish. Offertory donations at Saint Margaret rose by 3% from the previous year and were also 3% above plan. The bad news is that Grand Annual donations declined dramatically at both parishes last year and came in well below expectations. Grand Annual donations at Blessed Sacrament came in 29% below plan while donations at Saint Margaret were below plan by 24%. It is possible that the decline in Grand Annual giving last year may be related to the extreme generosity of parishioners giving to the handicapped lift fundraiser at Saint Margaret. Now that this financial goal has been reached, we are hopeful that Grand Annual giving may increase going forward. Primarily due to the decline in Grand Annual giving, both parishes reported net losses last year of around $9,400 each which were covered by savings. Our financial plan for the current fiscal year assumes that offertory donations will decline slightly following two consecutive years of increases. Hopefully we will be wrong. Another assumption is that giving to the Grand Annual will improve from last year, but will not go back to levels experienced the previous two years. On the expense side, there will be some reduced salary expenses from personnel changes related to the retirements of two staff members recently as well as reduced spending on facilities vs. last year. Overall, both parishes are once again expected to breakeven in the current fiscal year which ends next June 30, 2019. We are very excited about the year in front of us. We hope you join us as we continue to attempt to make our collaborative a strong, vibrant, warm and a welcoming spiritual home where all are welcome. Your Brother in Christ, Peter Culhane Finance & Operations Manager Saugus Catholics Collaborative
