Adams distributed over 1,000 turkeys, with accompanying trimmings, to over 100 local churches and community-based organizations that are serving Brooklynites in need this Thanksgiving. Borough President Adams gave thanks for the sponsors and volunteers that made this distribution possible, and spoke to the spirit of One Brooklyn in giving back during the holiday season. Thanksgiving is not only about giving thanks for what we have, it s about giving thanks for what we are able to give, said Borough President Adams. I thank all of the sponsors and volunteers who came together, in the spirit of One Brooklyn, to help ensure that hundreds of Brooklynites will have a hearty meal and a happier Thanksgiving. It is my hope that this day will be the launch of a long season of generous giving across our great borough. Sponsors of Borough President Adams Thanksgiving turkey distribution included Affinity Health Plan, Amalgamated Bank, American Stock Transfer & Trust Company, Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, Fairway Market, Flushing Savings Bank, Friends of DeCosta Headley, HealthPlus Amerigroup, Investors Bank, National Grid, ShopRite and Western Beef. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Thanksgiving is a time to spend with loved ones and be grateful for the gifts in our lives. said Keith Mestrich, President and CEO of Amalgamated Bank. "But for so many New Yorkers, Thanksgiving is
just another day on which food is scarce and loved ones go hungry. Amalgamated Bank is proud to do our part to support our neighbors and contribute to the Brooklyn 2014 Thanksgiving turkey Distribution. I am so proud that Fairway is going to be serving others at a higher rate than ever this Thanksgiving, said Jack Murphy, CEO of Fairway Market. We are almost to our new goal, and double our original goal of turkeys distributed. We feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to make a lot more families happy this holiday season! A quote by Henry Ford says, coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress and working together is success, said Maurice Patterson from Friends of Decosta Headley. This quote is 100% accurate because the accumulation of any success is the direct result of people working together in one accord. We at the Friends of Decosta Headley look forward to working together and accomplishing many successes with Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and his excellent staff. Together, we can create a better Brooklyn and a better world. Happy Thanksgiving! For over 25 years HealthPlus Amerigroup mission is to improve the quality of care and service for the New York community, said Anthony Woods, VP of Sales & Marketing at HealthPlus Amerigroup. Together with Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, we expect to do just that during this holiday season. As a Brooklynite, I thank the Borough President for keeping this tradition alive and HealthPlus Amerigroup will continue to support the Thanksgiving turkey giveaway for many years to come. National Grid's Power to Serve employee volunteer team is committed to being stewards of the communities we serve, said Ken Daly, president of National Grid New York. Today's opportunity to participate in the annual Brooklyn Borough Hall turkey drive to help others who may be in need have a happy Thanksgiving is one of the many ways that National Grid's employees have engaged and volunteered in the Brooklyn communities for more than a century. ShopRite and our family believe community outreach is very important, said Andrew Kent, owner of Glass Gardens, Inc., which owns and operates Brooklyn s two ShopRite locations. Thank you for allowing us to serve the great people of Brooklyn. Our family has operated the ShopRite of Brooklyn, located at Avenue I and McDonald Avenue, for the past 18 years, and just this past August we opened the new ShopRite of Gateway Center, exit 15 off of the Belt Parkway, now the largest supermarket in New York City.
