THINGS NEW AND OLD 13 51 He said to them: Have you understood this? They said: Yes. 52 Every wise manin the kingdom of heaven, therefore, is like a certain father of children who brings forth from his treasure things new and old. 53 It came to pass after this, when Jesus finished these words, he passed on from there. (Heb. Matt 13:51-53) 51 "Have you understood all these things?" They said to Him, "Yes." 52 And Jesus said to them, "Therefore every scribewho has become a disciple of the kingdom of heavenis like a head of a household, who brings out of his treasure things new and old." 53 When Jesus had finished these parables, He departed from there.(matt. 13:51-53 NAU)
MUTUAL REJECTION 54 He came into his own country and was teaching the people in the synagogues. The Pharisees were amazed and said in their heart: Whence (came) to this one the wisdom and power to do these deeds? 55 (Is this) not the son of the smith and Mary? Do you not know all these: his mother Mary, his three brothers: Joseph, Simon, and Judah, 56 and his sisters? Do you not know all these who are with us? Whence came to this one all these things? 57 So they were confused about him. Jesus answered them: A prophet is not without honor except in his own land, cityand house. 58 The he did not wish to dothere any sign because of their little faith. (Heb. Matt. 13:54-58)
MUTUAL REJECTION 54 He came to His hometown and began teaching them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers? 55 "Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, Jamesand Joseph and Simon and Judas? 56 "And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this man get all these things?" 57 And they took offense at Him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometownand in his own household." 58 And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.(matt. 13:54-58 NAU)
BLESSED ARE THE POOR IN SPIRIT 18 1 At that time the disciples drew near to Jesus and said to him: Whom do you think is great in the kingdom of heaven: 2 He called a (small) lad (and placed him in their midst. 3 he said: I say if you do not turn to become like this lad, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 ---- (Hebrew Matthew 18:1-3 [4])
FOR THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS THEIRS 18:1At that time the disciples came to Jesus and said, "Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" 2 And He called a child to Himself and set him before them, 3 and said, "TrulyI say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 "Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (Matt. 18:1-4 NAU)
BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO MOURN (FOR THEIRS SIN) 5 He who receives a lad) like this in my name receives (me). 6 He who causes one of the small lads who believe on me to stumble, it would be good for him to tie a millstone upon his neck and be cast into the depth of the sea. 7 (Woe to the inhabitants of the world because of המבוכות) confusion ha-mebokot), because confusion mustcome.) He also said: Woe to the man who comes because of it. (Hebrew Matthew 18:5-7)
BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO MOURN (FOR THEIRS SIN) 5 "And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me; 6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. 7 "Woe to the worldbecause of its stumbling blocks (σκάνδαλονskandalon)!for it is inevitablethat stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes! (Matt. 18:5-7 NAU)
BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO MOURN (FOR THEIRS SIN) 8 If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble cut it off and (cast it) from you; it is better for you to enter into life (blind) or lame than having two hands and two feet for you to be given to everlasting fire. 9 If your (eye) should cause you to stumble, pick it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye than to have two eyes and to be given to Gehenna. 10 Take heed lest you judge one of the small lads. I say to you, their angels always see the sons of my father who is in heaven, 11 and the Son of Man has stopped saving the enemy. (Hebrew Matthew 18:8-11)
BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO MOURN (FOR THEIRS SIN) 8 "If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; it is better for you to enter life crippledor lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be cast into the eternal fire. 9 "If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, than to have two eyes and be cast into the fiery hell. 10 "See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven. 11 "For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost. (Matt. 18:8-11 NAU)
FOR THEY SHALL BE COMFORTED 12 What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them (runs off), will he not leave the ninetynine in the mountains and go seek the one which has strayed? 13 If he should find it, truly I say to you he will rejoice over it more than the ninety-nine which did not go astray. 14 Thus (my) Father who is in heaven does not wish that any of these lads should be lost. (Hebrew Matthew 18:12-14)
FOR THEY SHALL BE COMFORTED 12 "What do you think? If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go and search for the one that is straying? 13 "If it turns out that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine which have not gone astray. 14 "So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish. (Matt. 18:12-14 NAU)
BLESSED ARE THE MEEK 15 At that time Jesus said to Simon, called Petros: If your brother sins against you, reprovehim privately. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 If he does not listen to you, reprove him before another; if by every oath he does not listen to you, add still one of two (in order that your words might be before) two or three witnesses, because by two or three witnesses a word will be established. 17 If by every oath he does not listen, tell it to the assembly; and if he does not listen to the assembly consider him as ostracized, an enemy, and cruel. (Hebrew Matthew 18:15-17)
BLESSED ARE THE MEEK 15 "If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have wonyour brother. 16 "But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED.(Deut 19:15) 17 "If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to youas a Gentile and a tax collector. (Matt. 18:15-17 NAU)
FOR THEY SHALL INHERIT THE EARTH 18 AlsoI say to you that every oath which you shall bind on earth is bound in heaven and every [oath] which you shall loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. 19 Also I say to you, if two of you wish to make peace on earth, everything which (you) ask will be yoursfrom (my father) who is in heaven. 20 In every place where two or three are joined together in my name there am I in (their) midst. (Hebrew Matthew 18:18-20)
FOR THEY SHALL INHERIT THE EARTH 18 "TrulyI say to you, whateveryou bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whateveryou loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven. 19 "Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for themby My Father who is in heaven. 20 "For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst." (Matt. 18:18-20 NAU)
BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO HUNGER & THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS 21 Then Peter drew near to him saying: Lord, if my brother sins against me, shall I forgive him unto seven times. 22 Jesus said to him: I do not say to you unto seven, but unto seventy-seven. (Hebrew Matthew 18:21-22) 21 Then Peter came and said to Him, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?" 22 Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. (Matt. 18:21-22 NAU)

One Who Was in Need of Mercy: BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL 23 At that time Jesus said to his disciples: the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who sat to make a reckoning with his servants and ministers. 24 As he began to reckon one came who owed about ten thousand pieces of gold. 25 But he had nothing to give and his master commanded to sell him and his children and all which was his to repay the value. (Hebrew Matthew 18:23-25)
One Who Was in Need of Mercy: BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL 23 "For this reason the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his slaves. 24 "When he had begun to settle them, one who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him. 25 "But since he did not have the means to repay, his lord commanded him to be sold, along with his wife and children and all that he had, and repayment to be made. (Matt. 18:23-25 NAU)
BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL One Who Received Mercy: 26 The servant fell before his master and implored him to have pity on him and to be patient with him because he would repay everything. 27 Then his master had pityon him and forgave him everything.(hebrew Matthew 18:26-27) 26 "So the slave fell to the ground and prostrated himself before him, saying, 'Have patience with me and I will repay you everything.' 27 "And the lord of that slave felt compassion and released him and forgave him the debt. (Matt. 18:26-27 NAU)
One Who Refused (to Give) Mercy: BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL 28 But that servant went out and found one of his comrades who owed him a hundred pieces of money and he graspedhim and struckhim saying: 29 trust me and be patient with me and I will repay everything. 30 But he was not willing to listen to him; so (he) brought him to the prison until he repaid him everything. (Hebrew Matthew 18:28-30)
One Who Refused (to Give) Mercy: BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL 28 "But that slave went out and found one of his fellow slaves who owed him a hundred denarii; and he seized him and began to choke him, saying, 'Pay back what you owe.' 29 "So his fellow slave fell to the ground and began to plead with him, saying, 'Have patience with me and I will repay you.' 30 "But he was unwilling and went and threw him in prison until he should pay back what was owed.(matt. 18:28-30 NAU)
One Who Was Denied Mercy: BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL 31 The servants of the king saw that which he did and they were very angry and went and told their master. 32 Then his maser called him and said to him: Cursed servant, did I not forgive you all your (debt) whenyou placated me? 33 So why did you not forgiveyour servant when he supplicated you as I forgave you? 34 His master was angry with him and commanded to afflict him until he should repay him all the debt. (Hebrew Matthew 18:31-34)
BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL One Who Was Denied Mercy: 31 "So when his fellow slaves saw what had happened, they were deeply grieved and came and reported to their lord all that had happened. 32 "Then summoning him, his lord said to him, 'You wicked slave, I forgave you all that debt becauseyou pleaded with me. 33 'Should you not also have had mercy on your fellow slave, in the same way that I had mercy on you?' 34 "And his lord, moved with anger, handed him over to the torturers until he should repay all that was owed him. (Matt. 18:31-34 NAU)
FOR THEY SHALL OBTAIN MERCY 35 Thus will my Father who is in heaven do to you if you do not forgive each man his brother with a perfect heart. (Hebrew Matthew 18:35) 35 "My heavenly Father will also do the same to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from your heart." (Matt. 18:35 NAU)
