Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 14, 2018
Merci Beaucoup Dear Parishioners Thank you very much for making French Bistro Night for the Orphans a tremendous success we raised approximately $32,500.00 (after expenses) to support St. Thomas More s annual mission trip to the Dominican Republic. Over 330 people were in attendance at the Dunes Club on Friday, September 28 th to support the 23 missionaries traveling in February 2019. We will be traveling to Mustard Seed Communities, Hogar Immanuel Orphanage, Cangrejo, Dominican Republic to serve the abandoned and disabled orphans through God s Love. As many of you know who have volunteered on past fundraisers, a considerable amount of planning and organizing takes place months before the actual event. In the weeks leading up to the fundraiser, hard work and long hours from numerous people working in different capacities are required to make this a successful evening. I witnessed countless examples of parishioners, missionaries, parents, friends and family working together for the benefit of the orphans. Without the incredible commitment and generous support of this annual mission, we would not be able to bring love, care and service to the children and staff of Hogar Immanuel. On behalf of Father Taillon, the missionaries, and myself, thank you all for your generous donations of gift cards, gift baskets, wine, monetary gifts, and most importantly, the gift of your time, talent and treasure. In closing, if you haven t had the opportunity to view the short video documenting how your generous donations and prayers have helped those in need in the Dominican Republic, Syria, and right here in Rhode Island, please visit one of the following: St. Thomas More Parish Facebook @stthomasmoreri.org ~ under Videos September 28 https://youtu.be/uhotssbmfzc Blessings to all of you, Lynn Bamford Director of Stewardship
Dear Fr. Taillon, On behalf of all our children at Mustard Seed Communities, especially at Hogar Immanuel, I wish to thank you for your continued generosity and support. The recent banquet held in Narragansett was truly an inspiring event, for I was able to experience first-hand the tremendous outpouring of love from hundreds of parishioners and other benefactors of St. Thomas More Parish. I also thank the many persons who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this event a success - those at the parish office, others who volunteered, those who donated items for auction, the young people who served, the entertainers, and all others who assisted in any way... I thank you! Your gift of love in seeing Christ and serving Christ is indeed a bright light in the darkness of our world. May all of you continue to be bearers of the Light of Christ! Thank you very, very much. Peace and Blessings, Fr. Garvin
Last Sunday, about 100 people attended the St. Thomas More Rosary Coast to Coast event at the Seawall at Narragansett Pier, led by Scott Johnson, Director of Evangelization. It was a joyful and heartwarming experience. One attendee was so moved, she wrote a poem: A circle formed at the Narragansett Seawall, men and women and teens quite tall. On Sunday, the 7th, just at four as waves crashed on the Narragansett shore! People all gathered all holding their beads, asking God s protection for our nations needs. St. Thomas More surely smiled in the sky, surfers on waves wondered why? Folks in the circle uttered, Hail Mary full of grace.... Beach goers slowly shortened their pace. The sun slowly peeked through the clouds in the sky. Coast to Coast Rallies uttered their cry, as angles listened from heaven above, the Feast of Our Lady fills us with love! As we proclaimed, Hail Mary full of grace... the holy circle prayed in place. Love and joy touched everyone there, as Fr. Kiran blessed all with a prayer. ~ Jane Hugo Words of Wisdom The spirit of wisdom, as we discover in today's first reading, comes to those who pray for her. Wisdom, like the word of God, carries a message of consolation as well as of great challenge. The Letter to the Hebrews tells us that the word of God, infused with the wisdom of God, is "sharper than any two-edged sword." We cannot shrink from the wisdom of God, or from the word that has the power to penetrate our hearts and minds. Jesus, the living word of God, the embodiment of wisdom, has strong, deeply penetrating words for the rich young man who comes to him seeking answers to his most profound questions. Just when the young man thought he had done enough to fulfill God's commands, more was asked of him. This is no less true for us. You will never be happy if your happiness depends on getting solely what you want. Change the focus. Get a new center. Will what God wills, and your joy no man shall take from you. ~ Venerable Fulton Sheen Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 14, 2018 The word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword. -- Hebrews 4:12a Wedding Banns III Taylor Tarter & Grace Fitzpatrick
