June 11, 2017 ORDER OF WORSHIP TRINITY SUNDAY The beginning of the opening voluntary is a call to silent, personal meditation. Please silence all electronic devices as we prepare our hearts and minds to worship God. 10:00 a.m. OPENING VOLUNTARY Prelude in E-flat J. S. Bach (1685-1750) INTROIT Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God; Come let us adore him. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Iain Quinn (b. 1973) PRAYER OF CONFESSION Father of the lights of heaven, loving creator and sustainer of all things, when we take you for granted or turn our backs to you, forgive us and save us; Christ Jesus, Child of God and child of humanity, when we neglect you or follow you timidly from a long way behind, forgive and save us; Holy Spirit, Source of birth and rebirth, nurturer of the family of God, when we reject your friendship to curry favor with the idols of this world, forgive and save us; Most loving God, origin and goal of communal love, gather your wandering children back to your side. Restore us and forgive our many sins. Reinforce within us the desire to do your will and to participate in both your travail and joy as you bring nearer the fulfillment of your new creation. Through Christ Jesus our Savior. SILENT CONFESSION CALL TO WORSHIP O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth! When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and stars that you have established; What are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth! KYRIE ELEISON Craig Phillips (b. 1961) *HYMN 138 Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty! NICAEA

The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. Most wonderful God, forever beyond our grasp yet by love always within our reach, we approach you with confidence. Most wonderful Christ, forever ahead of us in wisdom and love yet by love always beside us, we approach you with eagerness. Most wonderful Spirit, forever larger than the whole universe yet by love living in our hearts, we approach you with delight and joy. By your light, may your word be light to us this day. Amen. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars you have set in their courses, What is man that you should be mindful of him? The son of man that you should seek him out? You have made him but little lower than the angels; you adorn him with glory and honor; You give him mastery over the works of your hands; you put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, even the wild beasts of the field, The birds of the air, the fish of the sea, and whatsoever walks in the paths of the sea. PRAYERS OFFERING The Lord be with you, And with your spirit. Let us pray. O Lord show thy mercy upon us, And grant us thy salvation. O God, make clean our hearts within us, And take not thy Holy Spirit from us. Prayers concluding with the Lord s Prayer: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. OFFERTORY ANTHEM Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosannah in the highest. Praise God above, ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Franz Schubert (1797-1828) LASST UNS ERFREUEN *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God s image male and female, of every race and people, to live as one community. But we rebel against God; we hide from our Creator. Ignoring God s commandments, we violate the image of God in others and ourselves, accept lies as truth, exploit neighbor and nature, and threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care. We deserve God s condemnation. Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation. In everlasting love, the God of Abraham and Sarah chose a covenant people to bless all families of the earth. Hearing their cry, God delivered the children of Israel from the house of bondage. Loving us still, God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant. Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home, God is faithful still. With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen. A portion of A Brief Statement of Faith
