FROM THE BISHOP S DESK I WILL! I Could I Might I Can I Should I WILL! Happy New Year! It s 2016 and time for all of us to review our lives and attitudes as we move forward with a clean, open calendar and a fresh, willing heart. The new year always seems to provide the beginning for new ideas, new starts and new changes. I read a book last year, I Will! by Thom S. Rainer that really ignited even more desire within me to be an outwardly focused Christian. We look around us, seeing problems and difficult situations and seemingly hopeless challenges for some people. We wonder what we can do. We know we could. We think we might. We reason we can. We deliberate we should. So, what will we do? Do we continue to complain about the challenges without offering solutions? In our house, that s called whining and do you know what whining gets at the Drake house? Ignored! Rainer offers these 9 Traits of the Outwardly Focused Christian: 1. I Will Move from I Am to I Will 2. I Will Worship with Others 3. I Will Grow Together with Others 4. I Will Serve 5. I Will Go 6. I Will Give Generously 7. I Will Not Be a Church Dropout 8. I Will Avoid the Traps of Churchianity 9. I Will Make a Difference Randell O. Drake NHM Bishop nhmbishop@gmail.com In June at our NHM Conference Session, I will give a copy of I WILL! to every licensed and ordained minister present. Throughout 2016, I will reference this idea for our NHM churches and ministers. Let s not be those who are the coulda, shoulda, woulda crowd. Let s be the I WILL people. Leading with Grace: Called But he wasn t a preacher when I married him! is a common statement I hear when I visit with other minister s wives. Another one of my favorites is, I always knew I would marry a preacher. Regardless of how it happened to you, you are the wife of a minister. My husband was a youth pastor when we married then eventually he became the associate pastor, senior pastor and now is the bishop. I certainly didn t foresee all of that taking place. One thing I do know for sure, no matter how or when your husband was called into the ministry YOU hold an important position as well. Even if we didn t ask for it or plan it..we are now leaders, too! You have an impact on the lives of your church family and ministry. It is often said a minister s wife can be an asset or a liability. I m sure you ve seen scenarios of both. The question is.which do you want to be? Michelle Drake nhmninisterswive@gmail.com Hebrews 13:7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Here are a few MUSTS in order to be a leader worth following. 1. Follow Christ: We must be consistent in our own personal devotional and spiritual growth. So much is available at our fingertips: Bible apps, sermon podcasts and e-books. 2. Serve Well: We must serve out of the overflowing of our heart. Serving out of our own strength or hidden agendas won t get us very far. 3. Be moved by compassion: Compassion will flow out of our intimate connection with the Lord. Pray for the ability to see people as the Lord does. Baker s Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology defines grace as, unmerited favor of God toward man. Just as the Lord bestowed grace upon me, I in turn want my leadership to exhibit this kind of grace as well. Gracefully, Michelle MINISTERS WIVES FELLOWSHIP 2

F A M I L Y M I N I S T R I E S - Introducing Family Ministries - Over the past 50 years, the IPHC/NHM discipleship/educational/youth & children ministry has evolved from Lifeliners to Church Education to Christian Education to Discipleship Ministries. Over the past 2 years, NHM has been reviewing, analyzing and preparing DM for restructuring and revitalizing. In October 2015, the decision was made to restructure Discipleship Ministries into Family Ministries with a Cabinet of directors/coordinators leading this ever-changing, expanding and excellent ministry department. With the restructuring decision came the conclusion to no longer have a full-time director over all of the ministries, but instead to use the monies previously allotted for one salary into numerous funds to subsidize and finance the Family Ministries Department. By shifting the focus to individual family members, we will not relinquish our mission to disciple, but change the paradigm from a mom/dad/grandparent asking a child/youth What did you learn in Sunday School/Children s Church/Youth Service? to a teacher/ church leader/pastor asking What did you learn at home this week? We need to get discipleship back into the home with the church providing the extra discipleship and teaching needed. We believe this is a more biblical approach to discipleship. 2016 will be the year of changes and transformations. A Family Ministries Cabinet will steer this department with each individual director/ministry providing leadership, vision and mission to involve each family member and disciple them. We look forward to growth and increase numerically and spiritually in this important ministry area. I P H C N E W S J A N U A R Y I S SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE M O N T H Make plans to recognize January 17th as Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. 2 1 - D A Y F A S T With the conviction that the Holy Spirit is calling us to be a Place of Hope and a People of Promise, the International F A S T Pentecostal Holiness Church is crying out to God for revival among the peoples of the world! History reveals that every great spiritual awakening was preceded by a time of intense prayer and fasting. That formula remains the same! It is still true that If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14). Jesus declared that some things can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting (Mark 9:29). The local church was intended to be a house of prayer for all nations (Mark 11:17). We must ask the sobering questions; are we a house of sermons, a house of songs, a house of programs, or a house of prayer? The church is never taller than when it is on its knees and never stronger than when it is prostrate in prayer! We must become what we were intended to be, houses of prayer for all nations! As Presiding Bishop of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, and as we enter into a year where our attention is on the ministries of the Holy Spirit, I hereby declare a time of prayer and fasting for 21 days, from January 10-31, 2016. This call to prayer and fasting is made to all constituents of the IPHC, not just a select group known as intercessors. Our denomination is joining many other denominations and church organizations in periods of prayer and fasting. We are convinced that the flood of God s miracle working power flows mightily through the channels of prayer and fasting. The amazing results of this united prayer movement will be evident to all!
