Dear Student: We welcome you to Calvary Baptist School (CBS). Your parents are sacrificing a great deal that you might be enrolled at CBS. They have placed in our care, a very precious and special person - you! We, the board, administration, faculty and staff, count it a privilege as well as an awesome responsibility to assist you with spiritual input from our lives, as well as imparting knowledge that will serve to be vital not only now, but in the future. We are striving for excellence in every area of our Christian day school ministry, and will not submit to anything less. Our standards and rules are not in any way given to restrict you from living happily as a young person, they are only given to protect that kind of living. The Apostle John says, His (God s) commandments are not grievous (I John 5:3). Nor are the standards and rules at CBS if you desire to honor the Lord and respect those who are in authority over you. We live in deteriorating days. The world s pull is always downward. We all, Youth included, must maintain a firm spiritual grip if we are not to loosen our scriptural standards and compromise with this world s system. FORWARD In accordance with ARTICLE II, Section 3 of the Constitution of Calvary Baptist Church, the ministry of the Christian School has been established. In order to facilitate references to this ministry of Calvary Baptist Church, the name Calvary Baptist School has been adopted. Any use of this name should be understood to refer to the Christian Day School ministry of Calvary Baptist Church. Recognizing that various ministries must develop their own guidelines for functioning within the overall purpose of Calvary Baptist Church, the following handbook has been developed as a guideline for functioning in the ministry designated Calvary Baptist School. This handbook is prepared with authorization of the Deacons of Calvary Baptist Church, the Calvary Baptist Board of Education, and the faculty. Joshua Stock Pastor Mark Shaver Chairman of the Deacons School Administrator PURPOSE STATEMENT The purpose of Calvary Baptist School is to serve the Lord, joining homes and local churches, by nurturing students, through a life-changing education, to live as productive Christians. DOCTRINAL POSITION Because Calvary Baptist School is a ministry of Calvary Baptist Church, the doctrinal position of the School is the same as that of Calvary Baptist Church.
STATEMENT OF FAITH The Calvary Baptist School teaches the essential doctrines of the Christian Faith embraced by the historic, Biblical, Baptist position. These doctrines are summarized here from the Articles of Faith of Calvary Baptist Church. BIBLE: We believe that the Bible is divinely inspired, inerrant in the original writings, and the supreme authority in faith and life. GOD: We believe that there is one living and true God, existing eternally in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. JESUS CHRIST: We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary and is true God and true Man. HOLY SPIRIT: We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells each believer from the moment of Salvation, that speaking in tongues and the divine healing movements are not related as outward evidence of the Spirit-filled life; and that the Spirit-filled life should be the normal experience of every believer. MAN: We believe in the literal Genesis account of creation and that man is born in sin, is totally depraved and cannot save himself. SALVATION: We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again from the grave, that salvation is a free gift received by faith, and that if we are born again by the holy Spirit, we are saved eternally. SECOND COMING: We believe in the personal, premillenial, and imminent coming again of Jesus Christ for His Church. ETERNAL STATE: We believe that every believer in Jesus Christ will be raised to life forever in heaven and that every unsaved person will be raised to everlasting punishment. CHURCH: We believe that the true church is the body of baptized believers organized to meet together to observe the two ordinances of baptism by immersion and the Lord s Supper, to meet for Bible teaching, and to carry out the principles, precepts, and commission of Jesus Christ. We believe also that the true Church is the body of Christ and that all regenerate believers are its members. Admissions Policy Calvary Baptist School admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, athletics and other school controlled programs. Selection of students is based on openings in a particular grade level and an interview with the administration. Family life, church status, and general behavior are considered. It is necessary to disclose, upon applying for admission, any academic or behavioral problems encountered in a student s previous school experience. Placement of students is based upon past academic achievement, an entrance test, an interview with the principal and available class openings. Students must reach the chronological age required for a given grade by September 30 to be placed in that grade. Enrollment in the school will be finalized upon the completion of the following: A complete application A personal interview of the parents and prospective student by the administration An entrance/placement test (2nd 12th grades) A statement of cooperation, statement of faith, and dress code signed by the parents and returned with the application for admission A Tennessee Immunization Card and Birth Certificate A transcript from the previous school will be sent to CBS Registration is not finalized until all required forms, records, referrals, and transcripts are received and/or completed. New students entering CBS will be on probation for the first nine weeks. Their academic work and social adjustment will be reviewed at the end of the first nine weeks. We do not accept students who have left other private schools without all previous financial commitments paid in full. Students will not be admitted to CBS immediately following expulsion or dismissal from another private or public school.
PARENT-TEACHER FELLOWSHIP The association of the Parent-Teach Fellowship (PTF) is organized for the following purposes: A. To establish a service organization, not a policy-making organization, for Calvary Baptist School. B. To establish a liaison between the parents and the teachers of Calvary Baptist School as a means to communicate a feeling of cooperation between the parents and the teachers of Calvary Baptist School. C. To serve as a subordinating association in an effort to improve the quality of education in CBS. D. To provide a service whereby the various needs of the School may be addressed through voluntary efforts and fund-raising of the members of Calvary Baptist School. E. All parents or guardians of students and all teachers are members of the PTF. COOPERATION STATEMENT Each year every student and parent must sign a Statement of Cooperation and agree to abide by the rules and regulations with full cooperation and a Christ-like attitude. K-6 Students Parents must sign 7 and Higher Students and parents must sign.
CALVARY BAPTIST SCHOOL STATEMENT OF COOPERATION We have read the Calvary Baptist Handbook and are aware of the school s principles, philosophies, and procedures. We are in agreement with them and will support the school, its administration, and teachers in the training of our child/children. We give our permission for any of the school staff to use corporal punishment, if necessary on our child/children. We understand that we will be called and can administer said punishment ourselves, but must come to the school to do so. Any parent/guardian who prefers corporal punishment not to be used with his/her child should inform both the school office and the classroom teacher of his/her request. THIS MUST BE DONE IN WRITING WITH THE DATE AND SIGNATURE OF THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN. We also understand that a Misconduct Form will be sent home with the child. We will maintain a positive approach about school, avoiding derogatory statements and negative talk. COMPLAINT PROCEDURE Matthew 18:15-16 gives us a clear model of how we should handle complaints, conflicts or disagreements. "If your brother sins against you go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses." It is our intention to be a support to the home. However, in any organization there are always going to be disagreements and misunderstandings. If an apparent conflict arises, the parent should contact the teacher or staff member involved. If the problem remains unresolved, only then should the principal be contacted. It is amazing how quickly things can become clear or resolved when the people directly involved are contacted. FINANCIAL POLICY Contract Each family will sign a Financial Contract prior to the first day of school Payments Payments can be made on an annual, semi-annual, quarterly, or monthly basis. All monthly payments are due the first day of each month. A grace period is given until the 15th. All late payments are given a late fee charge of $20. In the event tuition payments become 45 days delinquent, your child/children may be suspended from attending classes at Calvary Baptist School. Extenuating circumstances will be considered on an individual basis. Release of Transcripts and Report Cards Report cards and transcripts will be held until all financial obligations and all other fees are paid. Monthly Financial Statement A monthly financial statement will be mailed to all families around the first day of each month. MEDICAL POLICY Green Card: Each student must have a Green Card (Permanent Tennessee Certificate of Immunization) in his/her file on the first day of school. This is State Law. Fevers: If a student has a fever of 100 degrees or more, and has other noticeable symptoms of illness, the student should stay home from school. Please notify the school of the student s absence. Students who become ill at school will be removed from the classroom. Parents/guardians will be notified. The student will not be eligible for perfect attendance certificates. Medications: If a student is taking medication (including cough drops) during school hours, the medication must be given to the teacher with the appropriate instructions. Aspirin and acetaminophen are dispensed from the office with permission of the parent. First Aid Care: First aid for minor bruises, slivers, and scrapes is administered by the teacher or principal. Major Medical Attention: If major medical attention is necessary, the parent or guardian will be notified as soon as possible. Insurance: All students enrolled at Calvary Baptist School are enlisted in a school-hours and school-activities insurance plan as part of their registration process. Head Lice Policy When a child is sent home with head lice, upon his/her return to school (no more than two days absent) either the parent or another responsible adult must bring the child to the office before 8:00 am. with proof of treatment and a dated receipt. The child s head will be checked to determine if all the lice/nits have been removed. If this has not been done properly the parent must take the child home and do the treatment again. When the child comes back, the same procedure will be followed. ASBESTOS The building of Calvary Baptist School is an asbestos-free environment. All building and additions have been built since 1995. WEATHER CLOSINGS The principal will arrange for telephone communication of school closings and announcements regarding schedule changes.
SCHOOL VISITATION Classroom Visitation All classroom visits must be arranged by the teacher and the principal. A one day s notification by the parent must be given. Volunteer Workers All volunteers need to make prior arrangements with the principal as to the time and place they will be serving. Brief Teacher Visits All parent-teacher visitations are discouraged in the morning hours. For brief discussions with teaches, a parent is encouraged to talk to the student s teacher after school hours. If a parent can only meet with the teacher in the morning a conference can be arranged by the principal if notification is given in advance. Supply Drop Offs In the event a student needs something he has left at home, the parent can give the item to the secretary or principal. Please do not disturb the classroom. The best time to drop off something at school is at recess or at lunch hour. Leaving Early Parents are discouraged from withdrawing a student before the end of the day. If, however, it becomes necessary to do so, the parent/guardian must notify the principal, pick the student up at the office, and sign the student out. Please do not disturb the classroom. Parent-Teacher Conference There will be a least one scheduled Parent-Teacher Conference each year. If you feel additional conferences are necessary, please notify the teacher and principal to make arrangements. Visitor Policy Students who visit Calvary Baptist School must abide by ALL the standards established in this handbook. There must be at least one day notification and approval of such visitors from the principal or teacher.
ACADEMIC POLICIES Promotion & Credits Students in K-8 th grades are required to earn at least a C average in half of their academic classes in both semesters. A student who has a 70 or below (0-69) in two academic classes as a yearly average may be retained at the same grade level. The teacher s evaluation and recommendation will be final. Special tutoring arrangements may need to be made during the school year and/or summer to help the student. Calvary Baptist School Grading Scale 100 = A+ 96-99 = A 95 = A- 94 = B+ 89-93 = B 87 = B- 86 = C+ (Passing) 79-85 = C 78 = C- 77 = D+ 71-76 = D (Unsatisfactory) 70 = D- 0-69 = F (Failure) Academic Restrictions Any student who has a D or F in any academic course for a nine week period may be required to use a Daily Progress Report, tutoring, or any combination of the above, to help improve grades. The appropriate steps will be determined by the teacher of the course. Withdrawal If a parent wishes to withdraw their child from Calvary Baptist School, they need to complete the withdrawal form and meet with the Principal. All fees must be paid, books returned and approval granted by the Principal. No reports or report cards will be released without following the withdrawal procedure.
FINE ARTS All students at Calvary Baptist School are encouraged to use their talents and abilities God has given them. Throughout the year, art, drama and speech presentations will be made at various PTF meetings and special occasions. Music We believe that the Old and New Testaments encourage music both with and without instrumental accompaniment as a form of worship. Eph. 5:19 encourages us to be singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. This includes all students and not just a talented few. Musical skills may include: A. Listening and recognizing beats and rhythms B. Writing and composing music C. Singing solos or singing in ensembles D. Playing of instruments E. Performing at community and school functions F. Acting in dramas and musicals Art An art program is currently under development. Guidelines for the art program are also being developed. Drama A drama program is currently under development. Guidelines for the drama program are also being developed. FIELD TRIPS All field trips must be arranged at least 2 weeks before the event. Field trip request forms must be filled out and submitted before the deadline. Otherwise, the field trip may not be approved and scheduled. Transportation will be arranged by the teacher after the administration has approved the trip. A field trip permission form must be sent to the parents at least 7 days in advance of the trip. The teacher in charge of the trip must provide an adequate number of chaperones, itinerary, and list of all students who plan to attend before the trip can be made. Field trips are for the student s education and will provide learning experiences which cannot be obtained in the classroom. Students who do not attend field trip are considered absent and must make up work missed during that time. Parents and chaperones are expected to adhere to school guidelines and dress standards on all field trips.
LIBRARY A Library will be available to all students. It will maintain high Christian principles and guidelines. A. BOOKS ENCOURAGED: 1. Books for research in Science, History, Computer etc. 2. Books for reading enjoyment (Books must promote high biblical and moral principles) 3. Books for Pre-school and Kindergarten levels. 4. Puzzle books, problem-solving, clean joke books, etc. 5. Dictionary, Thesaurus, Encyclopedias B. BOOKS DISCOURAGED: 1. Books promoting the worship of other deities, demons or animals. 2. Books promoting violent and sexual misconduct. 3. Books promoting disrespect for parents, teachers, and peers. 4. Books promoting swearing, lying, stealing or the breaking of the 10 Commandments. 5. C. VIDEOS/CASSETTES: (In the near future) 1. Videos and Cassettes will maintain the same guidelines as books 2. Videos and Cassettes will be made available to the students when program is organized. D. LIBRARY HOURS & REGULATIONS: 1. The library will be available to the students at least one time a week to check out a designated amount of books. 2. The library is to be a quiet place. Students may whisper quietly about their books. Students with disruptive or loud behavior will be asked to leave the library for that week. If disruptive behavior continues the student may lose the privilege of going to the library. 3. Books are due in one week. An extra grace week is given before a small fine is given for an overdue book. A $5.00 fine is charges if a student loses the book. (The fine may be higher if the price of the book is over $10.00.) The student has until the end of the school year to find the lost book. YEAR BOOK If the students of Calvary Baptist School want a yearbook, then a competent yearbook editor must be selected, and the editor will select his/her staff. Underwriting for the yearbook will come from additional income beyond tuition and registration.
Guidelines for Food/Drink/Toys A. Snack break Each morning students will have a food break. Students should bring healthy snacks for this break. Snacks with high sugar content should not be sent for this break. If a snack is deemed inappropriate for this time, it will be kept for the lunch break. B. Lunch Students will be responsible to bring their own lunches. Please do not include in lunches foods that are heavily chocolate or caffeinated drinks. Chocolate flavored puddings and milk are acceptable. 1. Microwave use is restricted due to the number of students and time of preparation. Please limit items for microwaving to less than 2 minutes. 2. You are always welcome to eat with your student either in the lunchroom or to take out to a restaurant. Please make arrangements for these special times. 3. Since we expect the students to bring healthy lunches, we want them to eat what you sent. Therefore, food sharing or exchanging will not be permitted. C. Parties Because of the excitement parties generate, they will be limited to lunch or recess time. Party arrangements must be made through your child s teacher. If you include candy in your party plans, please do not distribute it until dismissal time. D. Themes In keeping with our Christian philosophy, there are certain themes which are not permitted. Please note these guidelines: 1. Fall parties: Do not use ghosts, witches, jack-o-lanterns or other Halloween themes or decorations. 2. Christian holidays: Since Christmas and Easter celebrate the birth and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ; do not use decorations or themes which emphasize other traditions. For example, Santa Claus, Easter bunnies, egg hunts. We are not intending to pass judgment on those who use these items, we just do not want to distract from the Christian emphasis. 3. Some cartoon characters are associated with themes which we would prefer to avoid. Therefore, we ask that those characters and themes not be used. For example, Pokemon, Power Puff Girls, and Scooby-Doo. Please note again that we are not intending to be judgmental, we just try to avoid ghostly, witchy, and supernatural themes that do not draw attention to God. E. Toys Please do not allow students to bring toys to school without first seeking permission from teachers. This prevents loss, damage and injury to the toys and our students.
CELL PHONES/ELECTRONIC DEVICES If cell phones are brought to school, they MUST be turned off and left out of sight. The first time the cell phone is taken up for disregard of the cell phone policy, it will be held by the Principal until it is retrieved by the parent. The second offense will result in a detention and the phone will be held until retrieved by a parent. The third offense will be considered a cheating offense and will be dealt with as such. Electronic device such as computers, ipads, etc., may be brought to school for classroom work only. The device must be used in the presence of the classroom teacher. The student may not listen to music or watch videos that do not pertain to the class assignment. Any violation of this policy will result in the student not being allowed to bring the device to school.
Dress Code In order to establish a classroom setting which contributes to the best environment for education to take place, we have formulated a dress standard intended to help our students concentrate on their studies. The purpose is not necessarily to indicate other standards are wrong but to develop a setting that is not overly casual and adheres to the philosophy described below. Philosophy: The Biblical principles used to develop this dress code are; 1. Clothing must be modest. 2. (Comment: Modesty is an issue for boys and girls. Modesty means that there is sufficient covering to the body. Thus there are limits on necklines, hemlines, material and styles. Modesty also means that the clothing is not so tight as to draw attention to the anatomy of the wearer.) 3. Gender must be clear. (Comment: Boys should wear boys clothes and girls should wear girls clothes. There should be distinctions in the two.) 4. Dress must be appropriate to the activity. (Comment: Different activities would require different selections of apparel.) 5. Everything should be done to the glory of God. All Students K-3 thru 12 th Grade 1. Clothing should be in good repair. All clothing should be without holes, tears and ragged edges. 2. Clothing should be gender specific. 3. Clothing should fit properly and be modest. Clothing should not be revealing when doing normal activity. It should not be too tight. 4. Students will be expected to dress up on chapel day (Wednesday). This means girls in dresses or skirts (no denim) and boys in dress shirts (tucked in) and dress or khaki pants (with a belt). (Exception-K-3 thru K may wear a polo shirt). This attire applies for the entire day. 5. Students should not wear undershirts as their only shirt. 6. Shoes must have a back. A strap is O.K. (This is a fire safety code). 7. T-shirts may be worn on casual Friday. (T-shirts or clothing may not have designs or emblems which advocate products or philosophies in conflict with CBS.) 8. No sleeveless shirts, tank tops, or dresses without sleeves. (Sleeves must come down over the shoulders.) 9. Skirts and dresses must be knee-length or longer. Dresses or shirts should not be revealing or be cut excessively low in the back. No slits or splits may be above the knee. 10. Leggings are not pants and must be covered with a skirt or dress knee-length or longer. 11. Tattoos must be covered at all times. 12. Only traditional ear piercings for girls are allowed. All other piercings for boys or girls including the tongue and nose are not allowed. Only natural hair colors are allowed. 13. Hair should not draw attention to the person's appearance but reflect Christ likeness. Boy s hair must be off the eyebrows, ears, and collars. 14.
All Students Down Stairs (Pre-school thru 5 th Grade) 1. Students may wear jeans on all days of the week except Wednesday. Jeans hold up better at recess than do other types of pants. 2. Polo shirts, button-up shirts, and nice no collar shirts will be accepted downstairs. Stripes, prints, and solids will be allowed. Shirts must be properly buttoned. A maximum of one button may be unbuttoned. 3. Students do not have to tuck in their shirt. 4. Shorts may be worn the first nine weeks of school and the last nine weeks. These must be knee length- khaki or plaid. No gym, cheerleading, or sophie shorts. Shorts must have belt loops, and a belt must be worn. 5. Please send your child in comfortable shoes for recess. (Preferably tennis shoes) Students will not have recess on Wednesday. This will be art or music day. 6. Friday will be casual day. All students upstairs (6 th thru 12 th Grade) 1. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday A. Students may wear Khaki pants, any color. (No denim) B. Girls may wear Capri pants, any color. (No denim) Girls may wear skirts or dresses. C. Nice, neat no-collar shirts, polo shirts, and button-up shirts will be accepted. Shirts must be properly buttoned. A maximum of one button may be unbuttoned. Shirts are expected to be long enough to stay tucked in. Boy s shirts should be tucked in properly so that the belt is showing all the way around. Girl s shirts or blouses that are designed to be tucked in must be tucked in. D. Girls may wear denim skirts or dresses and boys may wear denim shirts. E. Pants may not sag. Belts must be worn if pants are so big that they are sagging. 2. Wednesday: See Rule #4 in All Students Pre-school thru 12 th Grade 3. Friday: A. Students may dress casual on Friday if they have followed the dress code during the rest of the week. B. Jeans will be accepted as long as they meet all other dress code rules. C. T-shirts will be accepted as long as they meet all other dress code rules. D. Shorts may be worn the first nine weeks of school and the last nine weeks of school on casual Friday only. These must be knee length- khaki or plaid. No gym, cheerleading, or sophie shorts. Shorts must have belt loops, and a belt must be worn. E. Students do not have to tuck in their shirt. F. Casual Friday is a privilege not a right. Casual Friday is a reward for good behavior and for following the dress code. The teacher will take your casual Friday away for behavior problems. Consequences of Dress Code Violations Dress: 1st offense Warning 2nd offense & beyond No Friday jean day. Any student who is seriously out of dress code will be required to call a parent to bring appropriate clothing even if it is a 1st offense. Hair: 1st offense Warning with 3 days to comply, unless the hair offense is deemed excessive by the administration. 2nd offense One day to comply and may not return to school until his/her hair is within school standards.
Credits High school students are required to earn 25 credits for graduation. One half credit is given per semester. To earn a credit, the student must have an average above 70 per cent for the semester. Graduation Requirements Calvary Baptist School offers a college-bound diploma. These are graduation requirements established by the TACS for that diploma. AWARDS POLICY The Bible indicates that honor should be given to whom honor is due. Students may receive awards for various types of achievement throughout the school year. A. Attendance Awards: 1. Perfect Attendance Awards- Awards given to all students who have NO absences, partial or no tardies for the entire year. These trophies are present at Graduation by the Principal. 2. Faithful Attendance Awards- Awards given to students who have five (5) or fewer absences and tardies during the school year. These are presented at Graduation by the Principal. B. Fruit of the Spirit Awards- Each student will receive a Fruit of the Spirit Award. These will be presented at Graduation by the Principal. C. TACS Competition Certificates- Certificates that all our students earn by placing in TACS district and state competitions are presented at Graduation by the Principal. D. Principal s Awards- Trophies are presented to the lower Elementary (1 st 3 rd ) and the Upper Elementary (4 th -6 th ) students, and to the Jr. High (7 th -9 th ) and the Sr. High (10 th - 12 th ) who have the highest grade point average for the year. These trophies are presented at Graduation by the Principal. E. Pastor s Award- A special trophy will be presented at Graduation to the students whom the Pastor feels has been the most outstanding in Christian character and conduct, one Elementary and one secondary. These will be presented at Graduation by the Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church.
Attendance Policy School Schedule SCHOOL BEGINS AT 8:15 AM AND ENDS AT 3:15 PM Students are tardy after 8:15 AM Excused Absences Students are expected to be in attendance each regular school day. It is recognized that there will be circumstances in which it is necessary for the student to be absent; therefore, the following guidelines will be applied for any student who has accumulated more than three (3) absences in any semester. Any exceptions must be approved by the Principal. For the first three (3) absences, only parental permission is required. Guide lines for Excused Absences A. Illness (fever above 100 degrees) or any contagious illness. B. Medical and dental appointments C. Death in the immediate family. D. Other family emergencies. E. Other absences where previous arrangements have been made. Forms must be signed by the teacher at least one day before the absences. F. No refunds are made on tuition because of absences. G. In the event of an extended illness (over one week) a doctor s excuse is required. Tardies Students will report to their respective classes on time. Students arriving at school after scheduled time may receive excused tardies. Tardies to school are excused under the same guidelines as excused absences. Parental note When returning to school after an excused absence or tardy, the student must bring a parental note to the Principal within two days explaining the reason for the absence. Make-up Work Students are responsible for making up their homework, quizzes and tests. Students will have one day for each day absent to complete tests and make-up work. Make-up tests will be taken in study hall or after school. Generally, make-up tests will not be given during regular class time. Zeroes will be given for work not made up on schedule. Extended periods of absence will be given special consideration at the principal s discretion. Unexcused Absences A. Students are required by law to attend school for 180 days per school year. If a student has accumulated 36 days of excused and unexcused absences during the school year, Calvary Baptist School will normally retain the student at the same grade level. Students cannot miss more that 18 regular school days per semester. B. No daily grades or quizzes can be made up for unexcused absences.
C. Students missing any individual class in excess of 36 times in a school year will receive F s for semester grades and no credit. Exceptions to this policy will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Leaving the Grounds Students are not allowed to leave the premises during the school hours unless they have written permission from their parents, and the approval of the Principal. During school hours, students may not leave the building without staff permission. School Sponsored Activities Students involved in school sponsored activities are counted present while involved in those sponsored activities.
DISCIPLINARY POLICY Calvary Baptist School must provide an environment to the spiritual, academic, physical, and social growth of its students. These standards are expected to be maintained throughout the school year. Below is a list of unacceptable misconduct. Spiritual Misconduct: Spiritual misconduct which reflects a lack of spiritual maturity. This includes, but is not limited to, attitudes and behavior which are opposites of the fruit of the spirit. It is expected that students will conduct themselves in a manner becoming of Christians as described in Scripture. In particular, attitudes and behavior should reflect the fruit of the Spirit as given in Galatians 5:22, 23 and Ephesians 5:9. Physical Misconduct: Physical misconduct is conduct that presents potential physical harm to self or others. This includes, but is not limited to, horseplay, running in the halls, and abusing or defacing school or church property. Students must conduct themselves so that they do not endanger themselves, their fellow students, or school property. Behavior which may result in harm in any of these areas must not be tolerated. Possession of any items that may harm others will be confiscated and may only be returned directly to the parents. Social Misconduct: Social misconduct is conduct that disrupts the educational atmosphere of the classroom. This includes, but is not limited to, excessive talking, being out of one s seat, and not facing the teacher. Each student should have the optimal opportunity to succeed academically. Conduct which hinders the student s own opportunity or that of fellow students cannot be permitted. Classroom conduct is an important part of becoming a good disciple. Students must understand that there are standards for interpersonal relationships. These standards apply to rudeness, language, disrespect, touching, and other behaviors. Misbehavior in one of these areas cannot be tolerated. Disciplinary Forms: Disciplinary forms will be sent home to communicate serious misconduct. Notification of dress code violations will be sent home for parent signature. The word discipline is related to the word disciple learner. The Lord Jesus commanded us to make disciples in this world. To function in this role, Calvary Baptist School has developed the following disciplinary system. Luke 2:52 reminds us And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. This tells us that He had academic, physical, spiritual, and social growth. This gives us a pattern for helping to train disciples of Christ. Calvary Baptist School must provide an environment conducive to the academic, physical, spiritual, and social growth of its students. These standards are expected to be maintained throughout the school year. In order to maintain the standards, certain procedures and penalties must be established. These policies must adequately address the individual misconduct, deter repeated misbehavior, and encourage students to improve.
It is hoped good behavior will be a result of the working of the Holy Spirit in the lives of saved young people. It is recognized that some students may not have come to the place of accepting Christ as Savior and thus do not have an indwelling teacher. Some students do not yet know how to listen to the internal teacher. Therefore, it is necessary to use external motivators to produce the desirable behavior. Methods of maintaining discipline and order in the classroom will be left up to the administrator, principal, and teachers. Specific discipline procedures are designed to protect all members of the educational community. Suggested methods for correcting behavior problems are: 1. Verbal reprimand from teacher with warning 2. Removal of privileges from the students 3. A personal call to the parent/guardian to discuss the problem 4. A writing assignment from a textbook or reference book. Students will not write the same sentence multiple times. The writing will be age and ability appropriate. 5. Detention may be used by any individual teacher after school hours to make up work, be assisted in any difficult area or as a disciplinary measure. 6. After these methods have been tried in the classroom, the teacher may send the child to the principal. Teachers will post a list of rules and consequences in their classroom. Methods of discipline may include the use of corporal punishment. All corporal punishment is administered in the presence of the principal. Any parent who prefers corporal punishment not to be used with his/her child should inform both the school office and the classroom teacher of his/her request. THIS MUST BE DONE IN WRITING WITH THE DATE AND SIGNATURE OF THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN. Unnecessary bodily contact, whether playful, affectionate, or hostile, is not acceptable at Calvary Baptist School.
