Radical Birth In the year 0 AD a teenage virgin gave birth to God in the flesh. She was instructed by angels to call him Jesus and was promised that he would be King of the world, the Son of God. A!er reading Luke 1:26-38 answer the fo#owing questions: 1.Who did God send to speak to Mary the mother of Jesus? 2.What did he say to Mary? 3.How was it possible for Mary to have a child when she was a virgin! 4.What things did the angel promise would happen for Jesus? 5.How is this birth different to the stories of radical birth you talked about earlier? 6.How is Jesus different to every other person who has ever been born? Jesus Christ was God in the flesh - God become a man. His radical birth demonstrates this!! 2

Radical Beginning Jesus went public with a bang! The sky opened at his baptism when God declared Jesus to be his Son, and then he faced severe temptation in the desert as his obedience to God was tested. A!er reading Luke 3:21-22 and Luke 4:1-13, answer the fo#owing questions: 1.What happened when Jesus was baptised? 2.What would you have done if you were standing in the crowd as this happened? 3.Where did Jesus go after he had been baptised, and how long was he there for? 4.What three things does the devil try and temp Jesus to do? a. b. c. 5.How does Jesus respond? 6. Jesus was the only perfect man to ever live. How do you think he continually resisted the temptations of the devil?! 3 Jesus Christ was the obedient Son of God. His radical beginning demonstrates this!

Radical Teaching Jesus lived an upside down life, and in his teaching he called his followers to live upside down lives too. At the heart of his message was a desire to see people resembling their creator God. In the space below, write down as many teachings of Jesus as you can think of: A!er reading Luke 6:27-36, answer the fo#owing questions: 1.Write down each of the things Jesus tells us to do in verses 27-32: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. 2. According to verse 35-36, why should we live such radical lives (there are 2 reasons)? 3.Look up Romans 5:8. How did Jesus embody his own teaching to love your enemies? 4.How does knowing that Jesus died for his enemies empower you to love yours?! 4 Jesus Christ wants all people to love like God. His radical teaching demonstrates this!

Radical Authority Jesus had authority over things in the natural world like the wind and food, but he also had authority over things in the spiritual world like demons. Jesus not only wants us to recognise that he has authority, but he also wants us to submit to his authority. Read either Luke 8:22-25, 8:26-39, or 9:10-17 and answer the fo#owing questions: 1.What is the problem that Jesus fixes in this story? 2.What does Jesus do to fix it? 3.How do those around Jesus respond when they see this miracle? 4.How was he able to perform this miracle? 5.Do you think Jesus actually did this? Yes / No 6. Read Matthew 28:18-20. Jesus has all authority on heaven and on earth, and he asks us to bring our lives under this authority. Have you done this? Yes / No 7. What is stopping you submitting your life to Jesus authority?! 5 Jesus Christ is king of the universe. His radical authority demonstrates this!

Radical Followers Jesus taught that those who wanted to follow him must give up their lives to do so. According to Jesus, this is the only way to be saved. According to Jesus, following him will not be easy but it will be worth it. Read Luke 9:18-27 and answer the fo#owing questions: 1.Who did Peter say that Jesus was? 2.What did Jesus say we must do if we want to follow him? 3.What do you think this looks like practically? 4.What according to Jesus will happen if we do not follow him? 5.In light of what Jesus says in verse 23, do you think you are a follower of Jesus? Yes / No 6.If you said yes, give an example of where you take up your cross daily 7.If you said no, what would need to change for you to become a follower of Jesus?! 6 Living for Jesus is hard but worth it. His radical followers demonstrate this!

Radical Death Jesus died on the cross even though he was God s perfect son who had never sinned. Although this looked like defeat, it was actually victory. On the cross Jesus absorbed God s anger against our sin securing forgiveness for all who put their trust in him. This criminal is just one example! Read Luke 23:26-49 and answer the fo#owing questions: 1.How many others were crucified with Jesus? 2.What did each of them say to Jesus? 3.Why didn t Jesus save himself? 4.Do you think it would be possible for us to be forgiven if Jesus didn t die on the cross? Why or why not? 5.What does Jesus say to the second criminal? 6.Why is Jesus able to say this to the man? Jesus Christ! secured forgiveness for his followers. His radical death accomplished this! 7

Radical Resurrection Three days after his death, Jesus rose physically from the dead and appeared to his disciples. They touched him and he ate with them as proof that he was not a ghost. Through his resurrection, Jesus conquered death and he now reigns as the King of the universe next to his father God in heaven. Read Luke 24:36-49 and answer the fo#owing questions: 1.After how many days did Jesus rise from the dead? 2.How did his followers respond when he first appeared to them? 3.What two things does Jesus do to prove he wasn t a ghost? 4.What do we learn about Jesus from his resurrection? 5.What does Jesus say in verses 46-47 will happen after his resurrection? 6.What relevance does this event have to you today? Jesus Christ conquered death. His radical resurrection demonstrates this!! 8

Radical Ascension After fourty days, Jesus ascended into heaven as the King of the universe where he reigns to this day. He wants you to repent of your sin, ask for forgiveness and follow him as your Lord and Saviour! Read Luke 24:50-53 and answer the fo#owing questions: 1.After how many days did Jesus ascend into heaven? 2.Where is Jesus right now? 3.Is he in a spiritual form or in a physical body? 4.Have you ever asked Jesus to come into your life? Yes / No 5.If yes, when did you do this? 6.If no, what is holding you back? 7.The video suggested three things we should do as followers of Jesus. Briefly describe what each one might look like in the life of a Christian: a. Pray to Jesus- b.read your Bible- c. Meet with other believers-! 9 Jesus Christ is alive and ruling the world today. His radical ascension demonstrates this!
