THE DOXOLOGY: #647 AME Hymnal Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow THE HYMN OF PRAISE: #62 God of Grace and God of Glory THE CALL TO PRAYER: #619 Spirit of the Living God THE INVOCATION: THE PRAYER RESPONSE: #619 Spirit of the Living God THE RESPONSIVE SCRIPTURE READING: James 3:13-4:3 (NRSV) 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Show by your good life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not be boastful and false to the truth. 15 Such wisdom does not come down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, devilish. 16 For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace for those who make peace. 4 Those conflicts and disputes among you, where do they come from? Do they not come from your cravings that are at war within you? 2 You want something and do not have it; so you commit murder. And you covet something and cannot obtain it; so you engage in disputes and conflicts. You do not have, because you do not ask. 2
3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, in order to spend what you get on your pleasures. Dear AME Church Membership: We are now only 44 days away from the November elections, where we will vote for key federal, state and local offices. Undoubtedly, you have heard the media projections; watched the candidates debate the issues and attack each other; and you have listened to the pollsters declare winners and losers. Voter registration problems often prevent people from voting, particularly younger and new voters or people who have recently moved. Among those who did not vote in the 2008 presidential election, one in five reported that they had either missed the registration deadline which can be up to 30 days before the election, or simply didn t know where and how to register. In the same election, one million people went to the polls but couldn t vote due to a registration problem. One way we can help, organize a team to get involved in National Voter Registration Week September 23-29, 2018. Remember, the AME Church declaration, That the AME Church must fully identify with the poor and the oppressed in their struggle for human dignity. That this participation in human development is not optional, nor is it an addendum to an already crowded agenda. It must be the very heart of the life and work of our Church.
