Let us silently prepare our hearts and allow others the same opportunity.) *We invite you to rise in body or in spirit Chimes Prelude: Crown Him With Many Crowns arr. Gordon Young Words of Welcome and Announcements Introit: Majesty Jack W. Hayford *Call to Worship Psalm 132 God has said: This is my resting place forever, here I will reside, for I have desired it." The Lord has chosen us; God desires to live among us. We are blessed to have God call us home. With God among us, we will be clothed with salvation; the faithful will shout for joy! With a faithful shout, we proclaim Christ our King! May the corners of the earth hear our cry: Jesus Christ is our King! Come let us worship our one and only Savior! *Hymn No. 263 All Hail the Power of Jesus Name! CORONATION *Responsive Invitation to Confession Come, people of God, let us confess our sins. Let us confess how we have fallen short of God s plans for us. Come to the font to be redeemed. Let us come to the waters of our baptism to be cleansed. Page 2
*Prayer of Confession You, God, are our one and only King. We beg your forgiveness for the other kings that we kneel before: money power gossip self righteousness racial privilege We beg your forgiveness, we who are broken and torn apart by our own doings and un-doings. Guide us to be your servants. Lead us to trust in you as the only king we need. Direct our faith in your sovereign power as we strive to follow your Son, through the power of your Holy Spirit, we pray. Amen. *Kyrie *Assurance of Forgiveness We have done wrong to God our king but the good news of the gospel is this: God has chosen mercy over vengeance. Together, through the waters of our baptism, we have been cleansed of our sin and are redeemed as beloved servants of a merciful King. Alleluia! Amen! Page 3
*Gloria Patri Glory to God, No. 581 *The Peace Since God has forgiven us in Christ, we also ought to forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you. Please greet those around you Prayer for Illumination Come, Spirit of the Lord, and speak through us. Send your Holy Word to be upon our tongues and your gospel upon our hearts. Speak to us, speak through us, speak among us, for we, your servants, are listening. Amen. First Reading Revelation 1:4b-8 pew Bible pg. 266 This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Fearing *Hymn No. 262 Since Our Great High Priest, Christ Jesus ALL SAINTS *Affirmation of Faith from the Second Helvetic Confession It is the head which has the preeminence in the body, and from it the whole body receives life; by its spirit the body is governed in all things; from it, also, the body receives increase, that it may grow up. Also, there is one head of the body, and it is suited to the body. Therefore, the Church cannot have any other head besides Christ. For as the Church is a spiritual body, so it must also have a spiritual head in harmony with itself. Neither can it be governed by any spirit other than the Spirit of Christ. Call to Offering The Offertory Chanson Gordon Young *****Please take a moment to fill out the friendship pads***** *The Doxology Glory to God, No. 606 *Prayer of Thanksgiving *The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. *Hymn No. 269 Lead On, O King Eternal! LANCASHIRE *Charge & Benediction Choral Benediction: Soon and Very Soon Andre Crouch Postlude Toccata on Alleluia! Sing to Jesus arr. Edward L. Good Questions for Reflection Jesus said that his kingdom is not of this world and that belonging to his way of life means a constant attentiveness to his voice. How are you (individually and as a community) embodying the countercultural reign of God? What is a further step that you are being called to take? How might you make more time to listen for his voice? Household Prayer: Morning Gracious God, help me to receive this day as gift: in the tasks for which I do not feel prepared, in the needs I am not strong enough to meet. In my caution and in my confidence teach me to listen for your voice and to watch for your provision. Grant me the gift of life in community, that I might witness your desire flowing through others, that I might be joined to greater service, for I pray in the name of Jesus, whose every breath was praise. Amen. Page 5
Household Prayer: Evening Lord of life, as I recollect this day, help me to recognize your witness in truth that challenged convenience, in decisions that stretched my heart, in forgiveness freely offered. Teach me to trust the sound of your voice and to follow where you lead, for I would serve in the shelter of your reign. Amen.
