The role of a father in family life is so important. It is a deep suffering when a child does not have a father in their life. This absence can be experienced in so many ways. To watch a father pray and call upon and depend upon a power greater than himself teaches children where all true holiness and strength lies, in God. Statistics have shown that a father s influence on children surpasses that of a mother when it comes to passing on the Faith. Much responsibility is placed on dads from God to pass along the truths of the Faith in both word and deed. Pray for our fathers and thank those who try, to the best of their abilities, to be living examples of striving disciples and all around good men. We also remember in our prayers those dads who have passed away. We commend them to the mercy of God and to his love for them. Take time to especially pray for those dads who fell short of who we needed them to be. God is able to complete in eternal life the work of building up a soul in holiness that he began this side of Heaven. A Mass offered for a deceased dad every year or so is a good and holy act of love for our faithful departed. I mentioned last week in the announcements the anticipation of adding a Tuesday night Mass for working people. Our morning Mass times accommodate those who have a flex schedule or are retired. Those persons who work in the morning do not have the opportunity very often to attend Mass outside of Sunday. This additional Mass time will help fill that spiritual desire. We will also add confessions for an hour before the Tuesday night Mass along with a simpler Holy Hour of Adoration in the church. Our Corpus Christi celebration was so well received that this extension of eucharistic prayer time seems to be a natural fit for our parish and for our young people. The additional Mass and Confession time will begin after Labor Day in September. Regular Eucharist beyond Sunday and more frequent reception of the Sacrament of Confession are sure helps to our ever-inneed spiritual life. I m going to put on my parent hat now. As we enter the warmer summer months we will be appreciating the luxury of air conditioning more and more within the church building during Mass. Please be mindful when you leave the church building to not leave the outside exit doors propped open. This is happening more and more. Please feel free to shut a propped open door behind you as you leave or enter. As you might guess, these propped open doors cause the cooler air from inside to rush outside, thus causing the air conditioner to keep toiling and using energy unnecessarily. Religious Education News Adam Horn R.E. Director This upcoming Religious Education year will look a bit different than in the past. While grades 1-5 will continue classes like usual (this year on Wednesdays from 6:00 7:15), middle school and high school students are invited to a day-long service retreat in the fall before continuing classes in the winter. As with every year, we re always looking for people to help out as volunteers be it catechists for elementary level grades, small group facilitators for middle school and high school, in-class helpers, or even subs. Looking for VIRTUS session facilitators The Diocesan Safe Environment Department is offering free training August 14th & 16th, 2018 (8:30am-4:30pm) for individuals willing to volunteer to be VIRTUS Protecting God s Children Adult Awareness program facilitators. Applicants for the upcoming Protecting God s Children facilitator training session need to complete the application form by July 6, 2018; have attended a VIRTUS Session; and have completed the diocesan approved online criminal background check.
