small church Ecclesiastes 4:910,12 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work. If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

MEN S MINISTRY ORGANIZTION (Small Church) (1 Person) Men s Ministry/ Brotherhood Director is responsible for Gathering Men Grouping Men Growing Men Going Discipleship Ministry/Missions Opportunities and (Royal Ambassadors/ Challengers) and (Royal Ambassadors/ Challengers) Gathering Men (Evangelism): Planned events that bring men together. Gathering events are highinterest activities that create opportunity for outreach and evangelism. Grouping Men (Studies): Moves the gathered men into short term relationship groups while building toward discipleship, ministry and missions. (Royal Ambassadors/Challengers If your church has RAs and/or Challengers these ministries relate to MM/BH. Especially the interest activities like camping, woodcrafts, basketball, pinewood derby, etc. Boys and dads are natural groupings) Growing Men (Discipleship): The goal is to create disciples, who are called to walk with Christ, be equipped to live like Christ, and sent to work for Christ. (Royal Ambassadors/Challengers The ongoing mission study and mission action of RAs and Challengers relate to the growing (discipleship) aspect of MM/BH.) Going Men (Missions & Ministry Opportunities): Opportunities for men to become involved in ministry and missions inside and outside the local church. (Mission projects of RA and Challenger advancement workbook) relates to this ministry.) ORGANIZATIONAL DUTIES Give periodic reports and plans at church business meetings. Develop and quantify the annual MM/BH budget. Through surveys and interviews identify activities/ministries that your church can be involved in. Royal Ambassadors (1st 6th grade) and Challengers (7th12th grade) are part of the Men s Ministry/ Brotherhood organization. 1

MINISTRY DESCRIPTIONS GATHERING MEN (EVANGELISM): Planned events that bring men together. Gathering events are highinterest activities that create opportunity for evangelism. They allow people to check you out with a low level of commitment, all they have to do is show up. Plan to hold a gathering event not more than quarterly (rest your players) and not less than twice a year (an entire year between events seems light). Maintain variety in the atmosphere of these gathering events. If you are trying to reach men on the fringe, do not sing praise music at every event. Consider having a businessman serve as host and emcee, rather than the pastor. GROUPING MEN: Moves the gathered men into timespecific involvement which builds relationships and involves them in ministry and missions. Pray that God will show you a man s skill, talent or spiritual gift and plug him into the right place of service. Make sure the groups are timespecific (lasting a given number of weeks or for a specific event). Look and pray for leaders to emerge from the groups so you can plug them into growing groups. GROWING (DISCIPLESHIP) The goal is to create disciples who are called to walk with Christ, be equipped to live like Christ, and sent to work for Christ. Keep the active church men and the marginal men in mind as you plan. As men come back for more, get them into a ministry group or mission group. Study groups may meet at the church, in a community meeting room, or even in a local eating establishment early morning or late evening. The goal is discipleship and from there to leadership. SUGGESTED: 2 Timothy 2:12 As for you, my son, be strong through the grace that is ours in union with Christ Jesus. Take the words that you have heard me preach in the presence of many witnesses, and give them into the keeping of men you can trust, men who will be able to teach others also. HOW TO COUNT MEN S MINISTRY/ BROTHERHOOD MINISTRY 20 ACP Survey Worksheet Congregation: SBC ID: Legal Name Mailing Address AL Street Address AL MISSIONS INFORMATION Total Men & Boys a. Children b. Youth c. Adults a. Children (Leaders are counted under c. Adults ) Count the boys in Royal Ambassadors or the boys in Children In Action or the boys in AWANA, if your church teaches Southern Baptist Missions in the council time or involves the boys in mission projects. b. Youth (Leaders are counted under c. Adults ) Count the youth in Challengers or the youth who attend the International or North American Mission Study. or the youth who participated in mission projects locally or projects like "World Changers" or a family or church mission trip. Your church may provide some occasional Southern Baptist missions education to the youth in S. S., VBS, in Discipleship, or DiscipleNow. The boys involved in these are to be counted here. C. Adults In a small church, most likely the adult enrollment is every man (18 and up). Why? Because your church focuses on fellowship and inclusiveness. Most all active men and some of their community friends will participate in projects around the community. Church work days count. Brotherhood breakfasts count. Church sponsored outdoor events count. EXAMPLE: Fifteen men attend the quarterly Brotherhood breakfast. Five other men (who never attend the breakfast) helped with a local mission project (house renovation for elderly), and two young men went with the Methodist Church on a mission trip. {c. Adults 22} EXAMPLE: Your church runs forty five in S.S. Thirteen are men. One hundred and fifty attend a Wild Game Supper sponsored by the church. All forty five children, youth and adults helped. (Seven were boys youth & children. You have no other missions education for the boys but they do take Christmas Trees to the elderly and make Samaritan Purse shoe boxes.) Five inactive men of active families helped with the supper. Do you count the one hundred and fifty? No. But you do count the marginal men and young boys. {Total Men & Boys 25} EXAMPLE: Five men helped build a handicap ramp in the community. Three young adult men did some disaster relief after a flood (one had helped with the ramp). Three older men are continually helping their wives to see after several widows in the community (odd jobs, transportation, meals, financial advice). Five middle age men are members of the association disaster relief clean up and recovery team. The WMU sponsored a church wide International Mission Study during S.S. and worship one Sunday and twenty one men were present. {5+3+3+5=16 but 15 different men. Ten of the fifteen were in the 21 who attended the IM Study so only five of the missions action group will be added to your total missions information number. {c. Adults 27 (21 + 5)} 7
