17 And he thought within himself, saying, (1) What shall I do, since I have no room to store MY crops? 18 So he said, (who is he talking to?) (2) I will do this: Question: Do you think that his plan of consulting himself, made sense to him - - seemed wise to him? Prv. 16:25 There is a way that seems right (correct, well advised) to a man, But its end is the way of death. Herein is the Danger for us Prv. 12:15 The way (his pattern of thinking & living) of a fool is right in his own eyes, But he who heeds counsel is wise. Prv. 3:5-8 (1) TRUST in the LORD with all your heart, And (2) LEAN NOT on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways (3) ACKNOWLEDGE Him, And (a) He shall direct your paths. 7 (4) DO NOT be wise in your own eyes; (5) FEAR the LORD and (6) DEPART from evil. 8 (b) It will be health to your flesh, And (c) strength to your bones. There are some Non-Christian Cultures in the World that Bury all that is Possible with the Dying Man wife included!!! Exodus 20:17 You shall not covet your neighbor s house; (why not? cuz it doesn t belong to you private ownership) you shall not covet your neighbor s wife, (why not? cuz she doesn t belong to you private relationship ) nor his male servant, (why not? cuz he doesn t work for you private investment) nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor s. (why not? cuz it s idolatry and thievery) 1Tim. 6:6-10 Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 2
( this is fun because in the Jewish mind a Pharaoh Pop-Up, would appear in the mind ) 1 Tim. 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. ( the pharaoh had everything for the next world so he thought ) The Parable Of The Rich Fool 3.) God was not in his future v.19-21 3a.) He did not consider his purpose v.19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry. That is; His Purpose for Living (he never stopped to think seriously about why he was even here on earth) And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up. Look around yourself and see all the stuff you have gotten. And all this - for many years to come. We re going to finally have a great time you and i. take your ease; soul, we worked hard to get all this stuff and boy are we tired. We need a rest from all this work. I tell you what - eat, drink, and be merry, OK! The Pursuit of Things Will Never, Can Never Satisfy You Paul is a great example for us regarding this; Rom. 7:7-12 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, You shall not covet. 8 But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead. 9 I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died. 10 And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death. 11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me. 12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good. According to God - Your Life is Infinite in Value. BUT WHAT IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THAT According to God - Your Life is Intentional and Purposeful. BUT WHAT IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THAT You should learn something great everyday because what you know will be your filter for everything you hear. Dr. Ben Carson 3
3b.) He did not recognize his mortality v.20a But God said to him, Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; Note This; Someday In The Future, God Will Recall Your Soul He Will Question Your Soul. (he never stopped to think seriously about why he was even here on earth) This man had his reasons for not wanting to hear things about God. ( What could be his reasons for not wanting to know about God? ) God is a huge inconvenience in your life. If you choose not to acknowledge Him. Luke 12:48b For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more. 3c.) He did not achieve his goal v.20b-21 then whose will those things be which you have provided? to whom is the stuff in your trust going to when you die? Prov. 21:26 (about the human heart the bible speaks that) He covets greedily all day long, :21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. What does it mean to be rich toward God? How does someone get rich toward God? Is it the things that you Possess THAT DEFINES YOUR LIFE? It s Perhaps the Most Dangerous of All Sins Because It s so Acceptable, - - It s what Bit Eve in the Garden Gen. 3:6 So when the woman (Eve) saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. we need to recognize several things. covetousness causes our hearts to make appraisals of things. covetousness causes our eyes to lust for what others have covetousness causes our desires to grasp after things 4
why is STUFF so important to us? why is someone else s stuff EVEN more important to us? #1 - learn this; all your stuff, isn t your stuff at all how can I defeat this sin of covetousness? #2 - understand what stuff is for, it s to manage for God s purposes. #3 - be honest, the stuff has been loaned to you - it will return to God in the end. #4 - find out what you should be doing with your stuff? Prov. 30:8b-9 Give me neither poverty nor riches Feed me with the food allotted to me; :9 Lest I be full and deny You, And say, Who is the LORD? Or lest I be poor and steal, And profane the name of my God. Ivor Powell writes; it s a tragic thing, some people are so poor, that all they have is money. this is the danger. this man, in just three sentences uses the personal pronoun I six (6) times and the possessive pronoun five (5) times. = (11) times, it s all and only about himself. The Conclusion; This man could only think about himself and did think about himself more than anyone else on the planet. Jesus' teaching on THE RICH FOOL is interesting for sure. Riches are not foolish nor are they evil. It is the wickedness of the human heart that takes the blessings of God and turns them into a curse and condemns the very things that God would like us to use for His glory >>>> The Cross, The Christ, The Call <<<< End of Study Copyright March 19, 2014 by Jack Hibbs 5
