THE SPIRE News of New Haven United Methodist Church Making Disciples for Jesus Christ in the world, by being God s Love in Action. VOLUME XXIV Number 31 August 29, 2014 Cindy s Chalkboard Here we go again! It s time for Mission Sunday and I sure hope you can join us! On September 21st, instead of coming to worship, we are coming at our regular worship times, and then going out and BE THE CHURCH!! Oh my, do we have plans for you (and me!). We have been busy lining up many ways that we can BE THE CHURCH in our own community. serve for an hour and there are opportunities to serve for several hours that day. We are encouraging everyone that is able, to leave the church building that morning and be a part of a service project in one way or another. There are also opportunities to serve right here at New Haven UMC, including an AWESOME worship service want to serve. What a great way to have church and the BE the church!! Don t forget to order your own Mission Sunday T-shirt with the mission logo: The Church Has Left the Building! It will be so much fun, and a meaningful time for everyone. I am looking forward to seeing how all of Mission Sunday September 28th!! When you arrive at New Haven UMC on that particular Sunday, (whether it be at 8:45 or 11:00 am), we will all be sent out to serve in a variety of ways. Now, don t worry. You have a chance to choose what you want to do, and for how long. There are opportunities to Mission Sunday Q & A Are we still having worship on Sept. 28th? We will gather in the parking lot at both of our regular worship hours to be sent out in mission. Why didn't we combine both services into one service on that day? Coming to church at our regular worship hours, and then being sent out to BE the church during this same hour, symbolizes our willingness to trade our weekly worship time in the Chapel led by our own Danny Hall!! All transportation is lined up and ready to go, so there is no need to worry about how to get to your destination. Sign-up tables are in the reception area for you to choose where you this unfolds In our second adventure of hosting Mission Sunday in and through New Haven Church. Mark your calendar as we live into our mission statement: Making Disciples for Jesus Christ in the World, by being God s Love in Action. - Pastor Cindy to make a difference in the world by serving others. Some mission events go through the lunch hour. Will there be lunch? Oh, yes. A light lunch will be provided. Can I invite others to participate on this day? Absolutely!! Invite, invite, invite!!! What happens if I miss a chance to sign up for a mission? Our favorite word is flexible. We will accommodate everyone who comes. Do I have to order a Mission T- Shirt for that day? T-shirts are not a requirement, but they are a lot of fun to wear together as a church. Scholarship funds for t-shirts are available. What about my young children is there something for them to do? Yes!! We have a mission project lined up at the church for them. Nursery will also be available.

ALLYSON S ANNOUNCEMENTS There WILL be an activity for the children, here at New Haven, on Mission Sunday. We will be packing beans and rice for Restore Hope; these bags will in turn be given to needy families in the area. Of course, the children are welcome to go with a parent to certain projects, but many of the projects are not meant for children and they MUST be accompanied by an adult. The collections for Christmas Boxes has begun. This year, we will be giving to the children at Remington Elementary. They are a smaller school (around 280) and I promised that each child would get a box. That s where you come in This year, in lieu of bringing items to the church for the boxes, I am asking that monetary donations be made. That way, each box will be uniform and easier to sort and package. Any amount works. I would love to also give the teachers a little something. From experience, I can tell you that they often get overlooked and they spend a lot of money on the children! Please designate any funds to the Christmas Box Children. Yesterday in, I asked the teachers to ask the kids why God made people. These are the responses the children gave: So he could have his own world. So he wouldn t be lonely. So he could be the best builder on earth. Actually, not in earth. Out of earth. God wanted to spread his love to his own people that he made. He didn t want to be alone. That way there d be more going on than just animals. He didn t want the animals to be alone. What awesome answers; out of the mouths of babes! Please let me know if you have any questions regarding any of this information. PLEASE PRAY FOR...
