Catechumenate for Children and Teens ATTENTION PARENTS: If you have a child over 7 who have not completed their Sacraments of Initiation or may be interested in the Catholic Church please consider the Catechumenate. These are the categories of those that should consider participating: Those who wish to learn about the teachings of the Catholic Church (age 7 and over). Those who have never been baptized (age 7 and over). Children and teens baptized Catholic who have not completed their Sacraments of Initiation (Communion and/or Confirmation). For the most part this situation is for those above 4 th grade who have not attended Faith Formation in the past. The Children s Catechumenate begins in a few weeks. Please come, discuss your situation, and allow us to help you get your child started. Team Announcements Pathways Catechist Training by the Diocese of Richmond All catechists in our diocese are asked to become Pathways certified. Pathways is a one day, instructor led, interactive program of prayer, learning and reflection for all parish catechists of adults, youth and children AND Catholic school religion teachers. The next training on the Peninsula is scheduled for Saturday, October 25, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Norfolk. Registration is online at regonline.com/calendarnet/eventcalendar.aspx? EventID=1117634&view=month. The cost of the training will be covered by OLMC. If you do not have access to the internet, call the parish office to register. Nursery Our nursery is a Co Op Nursery, currently at the 10:00am Mass, staffed by parents who utilize the nursery and volunteer about one Sunday per month. It is a place for children ages 1 year to 4 years old to come together to worship, learn about God and grow in their faith development through bible stories, songs and activities. This orientation is for parents of children attending public, as well as Catholic, schools. Register online at olmc.org. Confirmation Registration for Confirmation for the 2014 2015 year is now open. Teens who are registered for Confirmation and at least one of their parents must attend the Diocesanmandated Parent/Candidate Orientation on September 14 th at 11:30am in St. Michael Hall. Information regarding the process for Confirmation will be given at this session. It will also help teens discern their readiness and disposition for sacramental preparation. Junior & Senior Youth Groups Adult Faith Formation MOMNIPOTENT: A Study to help Moms Find Peace, Balance, and Joy! More than a study Momnipotent is a movement to reclaim a vocation. Discover the eight feminine strengths that lead to a happy and fulfilled life. Join with other mothers of the parish in this 8 week study to find peace, balance and joy in your vocation as a mother. John Christian, a seminarian for the Diocese of Richmond, will be spending his Pastoral Year with us here at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Originally from Lynchburg, John graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, PA, in 2009. He entered St. Mary s Seminary & University in Baltimore in 2011. A seminarian s pastoral year is a time for further discernment as he works with various parish ministries and learns about parish life. John will be rotating through all of our weekend Masses throughout the coming year, so if you see him, be sure to welcome him to OLMC and take the opportunity to get to know him and help him to know our parish a little better. The next meeting of the Parish Council is scheduled for Saturday, September 13 th, at 9:00 a.m. in the Commons Meeting Space. Parish Council Openings This Fall we will bring four new members onto the OLMC Parish Council, which serves as an advisory group to the Pastor. Boxes are in the Commons for parishioners to nominate those you feel can serve the Parish in this capacity. The Parish Council normally meets on the second Saturday of each month from 9:00am to about 11:30am. Members duties include leading council prayer, advising our pastor and forming the agenda to shape and guide our parish. A discernment meeting for newly nominated potential Council members will take place on Saturday morning, September 20 th, from 9:00 until noon. You must be present at that meeting to be considered for Parish Council. The nominated must be a registered parishioner of OLMC, 18 years of age, an active practicing Catholic, be involved in the Parish and able to represent the people you will serve.
