THE BIBLE God s words God s acts How would God becoming a man advance the goal?
ACT I: SCENE II
To the prophets the exile appeared as a necessary prelude to the re-establishment of a holy community in the city and land of their fathers. It is clear they expected the Messiah to appear during the lifetime of the restored Jerusalem
The Gospel record is seen as a continuation and completion of the events begun in Ezra! From the standpoint of the historical record, there is no break between the Old and New Testaments!
The events in the four gospels-- Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are presented as the fulfillment of God s prior activities, not a new, detached operation!
Are you disturbed by the idea that we are grouping the gospels with the Old Testament historical material?
Matthew 1:17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are 14 generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are 14 generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are 14 generations. ACT 1 Scene I Scene II Scene III
NO BREAK The Historical Operation of God
PROOF No break in the Historical Operation of God
Malachi 3:1 Behold, I send My messenger, And he will prepare the way before Me. John the Baptist had both a historical and messianic application.
Malachi 4:2 The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings. Isaiah 53:5 By His stripes we are healed.
Prophecy is how God validates His Word.
I declare the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done. Isaiah 46:10
It is important to see prophecy from God s perspective. The Bible portrays Him as the controller of future events. He knows the future because He will make it happen. The Bible is history in advance.
Fulfilled prophecy is unmistakable proof of God s inspiration of Scripture.
No other holy book utilizes prophecy in the same way that the Bible does.
The Muslims have prophecy but it is entirely apocalyptic. One cannot demonstrate accuracy or that their message is from God when their prophecies could be self-caused and they have no historical track record prior to end time issues.
Jesus is the only religious leader who had prophecies written about Him. 48 specific topics 315 individual prophecies Published 5 centuries before birth

What other things does God use to validate Himself, His Word, His ways? Archaeology: Literally the rocks cry out
Luke 2:1-4 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David.
Luke 2:1-4 And it came to pass in those days that a decree (1) went out from Caesar Augustus (2) that all the world should be registered. (3) This census first (4) took place while Quirinius (5) was governing Syria. (6) So all went to be registered, (7) everyone to his own city. (8) Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, (9) into Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, (10) because he was of the house and lineage of David. (11)
UNLIKE OTHER RELIGIOUS LITERATURE The Bible covers religious events here the incarnation and links it linguistically with the fact that there was a Governor of Syria. The virgin birth occurred in ordinary history with time-space-matter considerations. There is no distinction between supernatural events and natural events as far as their historicity is concerned.
ARCHAEOLOGY IS A LOGICAL VEHICLE TO MEASURE THE BIBLE S ACCURACY 4 verses about Jesus 11 opportunities for fact-checking Only a minute amount of evidence actually turns up. Edwin Yamauchi, Ph.D All 11 points have been verified by historians using archaeology
Bible writers are not afraid of truth being verified in the normal ways it can be tested. They know the source of their writings is an honest God.
