Save your nation through your prayer Why is a person of prayer needed? Only by prayer can a nation be saved. God s proclamation of [ ]. 1 Kings 17:1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at [ ]. What was the national disaster in the age of Elijah? It was no rain over the land of Israel until God allowed it. God proclaimed disaster through the lips of the Prophet Elijah. God allows [ ]. We may find it hard to think that God allows disaster. It is easier to think that God only gives blessing but if we look at the Bible we see that God also allows disaster. Deuteronomy 28:22 The Lord will strike you with wasting [ ], with fever and inflammation, with scorching heat and drought, with blight and mildew, which will plague you until you perish. 1 Kings 14:10 Because of this, I am going to bring [ ]on the house of Jeroboam. I will cut off from Jeroboam every last male in Israel slave or free. I will burn up the house of Jeroboam as one burns dung, until it is all gone. Jeremiah 1:14 The Lord said to me, From the north [ ]will be poured out on all who lives in the land. A closer look at God allowing disaster. Disaster is one of the [ ] of God. Deuteronomy 28:46 Disaster happening is not necessarily a sign that God is not with [ ]. Deuteronomy 31:17 We cannot escape disaster by simply moving to another [ ]. Judges 2:15 [ ] can predict when disaster may come. Ecclesiastes 9:12 People don t always [ ] to God because of disaster. Amos 4:9 [ ] all ages or times will see disaster. 1 Kings 5:4

How to survive disaster. As an individual [ ] into the breast of God. God becomes our shelter. A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it. Proverbs 22:3 Declare your faith with the [ ] of the Lamb a sign of your trust in God. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt. Exodus 12:13 Overcome disaster by [ ]. A righteous man falls down seven times and gets up eight even in disaster. for though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again, but the wicked are brought down by calamity. Proverbs 24:16 He replied, You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble? In all this, Job did not sin in what he said. Job 2:10 Hold on to God s [ ] of salvation. God promised to save you from disaster. I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. Where, O death, are your plagues? Where, O grave, is you destruction? I will have no compassion, Hosea 13:14

As a community Find the [ ] of disaster. Disaster can come to many because of the actions of even just one person. Then the sailors said to each other, Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity. They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah. Jonah 1:7 Disaster can be overcome when you [ ]. From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. Jonah 2:1 Disaster can leave you when you return to God s [ ] on your life. Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you. Jonah 3:1-2 Disaster can be [ ] by being a person of prayer. [ ] will leave you. Psalm 91:7 Psalm 9:15 A thousand may fall at your side, then thousand at your right hand, but [ ] will not come near you. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. Only a person of prayer can save your nation from [ ]. Only through prayer can you really know the [ ] for a disaster. I have not made trouble for Israel, Elijah replied. But you and your father s family have. You have abandoned the Lord s commands and have followed the Baals. 1 Kings 18:18 Elijah pointed out Ahab as the cause of disaster in Israel. The cause of disaster that ruined Israel was Ahab and all the idols he brought in. Disaster disappears as soon as you eliminate its cause.

Only a person of prayer can stop [ ]. Araunah said, Why has my lord the king come to his servant? To buy your threshing floor, David answered, so I can build an altar for the Lord, that the [ ] on the people may be stopped. 2 Samuel 24:21 David built an altar to the Lord there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then the Lord answered [ ] in behalf of the land, and the [ ] on Israel was stopped. 2 Samuel 24:25 Application: Pause for thought Do we believe that prayer can save our nation? Have our prayers already been saving the nation?

A person of prayer is made through suffering. Prayer principles we can learn from Elijah <Key Scripture> 1 Kings 17:1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the [ ] except at my word. Prayer Principle 1: A person of prayer needs to be trained through suffering for a few years 1 Kings 17:1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next [ ] except at my word. Suffering is mandatory for a person of prayer. A person of prayer is not made through sitting at a desk. A person of prayer is not created by attending conferences or seminars. Prayer is a living power created through suffering. When you suffer it is like you are attending a prayer training camp. Suffering transforms a wild horse into a fine horse. Suffering transforms an imitation into a genuine person of prayer Suffering transforms normal people into an army of prayer. The period of suffering is in God s hands. It took three and half years of prayer time for Elijah. Moses spent 40 years, and Noah spent 120 years in suffering in order to be trained in prayer. Many times people of prayer who save their nation tend to pray in suffering for a long time. It is good to think of it as attending a training camp if you feel as if you are having a long period of suffering.

Conversation 1: Pause for thought When you think of suffering do you think of this as a time of prayer training or as a reason to complain to God? When you have suffered have you seen the results of prayer training? How many years have you had prayer training through suffering? How many years can you keep praying in suffering? Have you ever thought that your suffering was an opportunity to be reborn as a person of prayer? Prayer Application 1: Pray as you apply it in your life. Lord, let me switch my mind to see that suffering is an opportunity for prayer training. Let me have more than 3 years of prayer training.

Prayer Principle 2: A person of prayer should be trained to listen to the word of God. 1 Kings 17:2 Then the [ ] of the Lord came to Elijah: Suffering reveals to you countless truths. Suffering makes you remove your secular pride. Suffering makes you put down everything you have used to rely on in the world. Suffering makes you focus only on Jesus. Suffering makes you focus only on God. Suffering makes you look only at God with everything you have. Suffering makes you never take your eyes from God. Therefore, only a person of prayer who listens to the voice of God can survive their suffering. If a person of prayer misses the voice of God, they will suffer in hunger. Not every person of prayer survives during the period of suffering. Only a person of prayer who listens to the word of God survives. Conversation 2: Pause for thought Has your faith weakened because your suffering was too great to focus on the word of God? Did you focus only on the word of God before your underwent suffering? Have you survived suffering in the past by holding on to the word of God? Prayer Application 2: Pray as you apply this in your life. Let me hear the word of God while I am suffering. Let me listen only to the word of Jesus when great suffering comes to me. Never let me take my eyes off from Jesus even at a moment of martyrdom.

Prayer Principle 3: A person of prayer does not complain about his poor [ ] at the moment of suffering. 1 Kings 17:3 Leave here, turn Eastward and hide in the Kerith [ ], East of the Jordan. 1 Kings 17:4 You will drink from the brook, and I have ordered the ravens to feed you there. 1 Kings 17:5 So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, East of the Jordan, and stayed there. Do any of our churches make guest speakers stay in discomfort on the mountain? Do any of our churches make guests speakers eat food delivered by animals? Is there any church that would say to a guest speaker, Go drink water from the river? God had Elijah stay in the place remote from Israel. Elijah, a great speaker who rescued his nation, never complained about his situation. Common reasons for people complaining about their situation 1. They are complaining because they do not obey God but try to take control of their life. 2. They do not recognize there is God s plan hidden in the difficult situation. 3. They do not recognize that it was God who led them to where they are in order to save them. 4. They have no idea that even this situation is in the hand of God. 5. They do not deserve to be a member of army of God. Special armies of God do not complain about their situation. They obey God regardless of how difficult the situation in order to achieve God s plan. If you want to be a person of prayer who can save your nation from disaster, you must be trained in suffering. There is a purpose to God s training. You can overcome difficult situations if you remind yourself of the purpose of this training. A true person of prayer always tries to find God s plan in any situation. A person of prayer must climb over the wall of his/her situation. A person of prayer must find a way to survive in any situation.

Conversation 3: Pause for thought Are you complaining because your situation of prayer is difficult, or are you making any changes in your situation by using the power of prayer? Can you wait as you pray in a remote place or a difficult situation until God calls you? Can you put aside your pride as your pray in suffering? Prayer Application 3: Pray as you apply this in your life. Lord, don t let me forget my calling in Jesus because of a difficult situation. Don t let me stop praying for my nation because of a difficult situation. Let me complete my calling even in suffering. Prayer Principle 4: A person of prayer should trust that God will send [ ] to feed him when there s nothing to eat. 1 Kings 17:4 You will drink from the brook, and I have ordered the [ ] to feed you there. 1 Kings 17:6 The [ ] brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook. Where was Elijah s dining room? Who was Elijah s cook? What was Elijah s meal? What was Elijah s drink? Was Elijah treated well because he was a powerful person of prayer who saved his nation? During a period of suffering God takes care of the person of prayer he raised up. During the period of suffering God feeds the person of prayer he raised up. The reason God sends the ravens to his person of prayer even in a difficult situation is because God achieves his vision through his person of prayer. God supports his person of prayer through a very special way even if everyone says It s done.

The ravens were one of the ways of God s provision. It is God who feeds the ravens Matt. 6:26. God does not send the ravens to just anyone. God sends the ravens to whom he specially cares. The ravens are the angels of God. Even now God sends the angels to his special people of prayer. Conversation 4: Pause for thought Have you worried about God s provision when you were weary? What was the most impressive moment from the provisions of God you have experienced? Have the ravens brought you food when you had nothing to eat? Are you a servant of God who receives special care of the ravens? Prayer Application 4: Pray as you apply it in your life. Lord, send me ravens when I am financially weak. Let me believe that God will feed me in any occasion. Never let anything interrupt your provision even if Satan encircles a net around me. Give me patience so that I can wait for your provision regardless of how poor my situation is.

Prayer Principle 5: A person of prayer finds another path of provision when God s support has stopped. 1 Kings 17:9 Go at once to [ ] of Sidon and stay there. I have commanded a [ ] in that place to supply you with food. Why do no ravens come these days? If the ravens do not come to missionaries, they get embarrassed. If the ravens do not come to pastors, they also get embarrassed. But people of prayer do not get embarrassed, for soon after a new provision comes from God. Prayer is a tool to find a new provision. If God s support suddenly stops, a person of prayer listens to the word of God. A person of prayer finds out a new way of provision while they pray. He/she knows the ravens are just part of the ways of God s provision. It s not God s provision stopping even though the ravens do not come. Actually it s a message from God that he will change how He provides for you. The Lord Will Provide. He always prepares a better way for us. Conversation 5: Pause for thought Have you ever had an experience when you saw no more ravens (God s provision) for you? How do you feel when you cannot find the ravens? When there s no more support from God, do you tend to blame someone or something first or do you pray and find a new way forward with God? Do you believe that The Lord Will Provide? Prayer Application 5: Pray as you apply this in your life. Lord, give me strength not to waver even when there are no ravens bringing Your provision. Send me a new support quickly when there s no raven. Give me patience to wait for Your provision by faith even though it looks like Your support has stopped.

Prayer Principle 6: A person of prayer is treated well by his / her [ ] supporter. 1 Kings 17:12 As surely as the Lord your God lives, she replied. I [ ] have any bread only a handful of flour in a jar and a [ ] oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die. A new way of God s provision after the ravens was not a rich elder. A new way of God s provision after the ravens was a terribly poor widow. Why did God send a widow who was going to die after having a meal with her son because of poverty as his new provider? What is clear is that it was God who sent that widow to Elijah. When God chooses a supporter, he does not look at finances but at the heart. Therefore, a person of prayer should not mind if his / her supporter is rich or poor. A person of prayer should look upon the heart of his / her supporter. A person of prayer should not complain about the poverty of his / her supporter. A supporter is a way that God brings His blessing. A person of prayer understands that the origin of support is more important than the way the support is provided. He / she knows that God is the real supporter not a man or an institution. God is the best provider there is. He provided meals for 600,000 people in the desert where no restaurant existed. God is the best provider who provided meals for 600,000 people for 40 years. Conversation 6: Pause for thought Do you look at the finances of your supporter, or do you look at the faith of your supporter? Which is better the offering of a rich person who can easily give a lot or the offering of everything by a poor person? What do you tend to do - search for support by yourself, or welcome anyone whom God has sent to help you?

Prayer Application 6: Pray as you apply this in your life. Lord, let my supporter be a person of prayer. Let me treat the poor well. Let me be grateful for all the support I get big and small. Let my faith see that God is the real provider and human supporters are just ways Him delivering His blessing. Prayer Principle 7: A person of prayer lives by [ ] of God. 1 Kings 17:16 For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah. A person of prayer does not beg for money. If a person of prayer touches God s heart, God gives a miracle like he did with the poor supporter for Elijah. Through miracles, God begins to save unbelieving souls, and he pours out material blessing. A person of prayer longs for the spirit of God the Creator. A person of prayer supports his / her own ministry by bringing in miracles from God. God s miracle happened through the jar of flour and on the jug of oil of a widow. Conversation 7: Pause for thought Have you ever been worried or anxious about the support of the Lord? What has been your most memorable moment of receiving God s support? Have you ever been brought food by ravens when you were starving? Are you a servant of the Lord and ravens bring food for you? Prayer Application 7: Pray as you apply this in your life. Lord, may Your miracles meet my needs when I am financially weak. Let my supporters be blessed as You bring miracles in to my situation.

Listening to the voice of God What has God said to you today as you have studied together? Prayer of Mount Carmel Cry out to God as you pray and hold on to what he has said to you today. Today s shout Write down what lessons you have learned today and declare them out loudly before each other and before God A person of prayer who suffers saves the nation. A person of prayer is made through suffering.

A person of prayer must receive anointing from the Holy Spirit. <Key Scripture> 1 Kings 18:19-20 Now summon the people from all over Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel. And bring the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel's table." So Ahab sent word throughout all Israel and assembled the prophets on Mount Carmel. Prayer Principle 1: People s hearts can be like Mount Carmel a gathering of idols and ideas against God 1) The heart of a man is the [ ] of spiritual idols as the Mount Carmel. 1 Kings 18:19 Now summon the people from all over Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel. And bring the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel's table." 1 Kings 18:20 So Ahab sent word throughout all Israel and assembled the prophets on Mount Carmel. Mount Carmel was an assembly place of all idols and idol-worshippers. Like Mount Carmel, there can be many idols gathered in people s hearts. A person of prayer must remove idols from their heart just as the Israelites had to remove their idols when gathered at Mount Carmel. Just as the idols on Mount Carmel were a reason for Israel s ruin, the idols and ideas against God in your mind and in your heart can be a cause that prevents you becoming a true person of prayer. 2) The heart of a man is the [ ] of the spirit as the Mount Carmel. Romans 7:23 But I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. Mount Carmel was a battle place between the spirits of good and evil. It was a battle place for the war between the Army of God and the Army of Satan. In the same way, your heart is a battle place between good and evil. There is a battle going on in your heart and in your mind between the Army of God and the Army of Satan. The Apostle Paul confessed that there were two different points of view waging war against each other in his heart.

Conversation 1: Pause for thought What idols might there be in your heart or mind today? These may be subtle or very explicit. What ideas or thoughts against God might be waging war in your heart? How does this struggle feel? Prayer Application 1: Pray as you apply this in your life. Lord, destroy all the idols in my heart with the fire of the Holy Spirit. Let the battle place of my heart be changed into a fertile land for your kingdom

Prayer Principle 2: A person of prayer must eliminate [ ] in his heart. 1) A person of prayer must destroy Baal, the idol of [ ] in his heart. Baal was the god of abundance. In the modern view, Baal can be compared to material wealth. If wealth is your idol, then Baal has already taken control of you. One of the things Jesus taught his disciples was to get rid of greed. If the heart of a pastor is full of the greed, the love of money, and the thoughts of money, then he or she is already under the control of Baal. The heart of a person of prayer must be full of God alone. If you want to be a real person of prayer, you must destroy Baal in your heart. Money is necessary; however, it shouldn t be an idol. Jesus taught in the same way. If we are honest with ourselves, we all probably have Baal in our hearts to some degree. Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters. Either will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and [ ]. If you want to be a true person of prayer, you must get rid of any greed or love of money from the bottom of your heart. God does not answer a man who has idols in their heart. You must receive anointing by the Holy Spirit until you have Jesus in your heart and recognize him as Lord. You must thoroughly destroy Baal in your heart by filling up your heart with the blood of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. 2) A person of prayer must destroy Asherah, the idol of [ ] in his heart. Deut. 16:21 Do not set up any wooden Asherah pole beside the altar you build to the Lord your God. Asherah was a goddess that existed in Moses era. The Israelites set up wooden Asherah poles beside the altar of God. Asherah was a goddess served by the Amorites and the Canaanites. She was the wife of El, the highest god of Canaan, and was the mother of Baal, the god of abundance and productivity, and the goddess of sex and battle, one of three goddesses of Canaan, with Anath and Ashtaroth. Asherah was symbolized by a tamarisk tree, which means abundance and prosperity, just as its rich branches. Later, when King Josiah reformed the sanctuary, he put Asherah pole in there, and there was a house of male prostitutes at the centre of the sanctuary (2 Kings 23:6). It was the place for people to make screens for Asherah, but as time went on Asherah became the symbol of sexual immorality and lust. God hated people making Asherah poles. What God wanted to see was the Israelites stay away from lust and instead live in holiness. 1 Th. 4:3 It is God s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality. You could call our modern society a sexually-open-society. A person of prayer should get rid of sexual immorality in their heart and instead be filled with the sanctifying presence of the Holy Spirit.

If you want to be a true person of prayer, you must destroy Asherah, the idol of sex. If you want to be a true person of prayer, you must make your heart clean from lust. Your heart is a sanctuary if there is lust in the sanctuary, it is defiled and there is Asherah in your heart. A person of prayer must hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. Person of prayer, destroy Asherah in your heart. I see lust in your heart. You have already committed adultery in your heart. Matt. 5:28 Being lustful does only mean that you have committed sexual immorality. It could mean that as a believer you have lusted after or desired secular or materials things beside God. It could mean that a church has indulged in secularism beside God. Therefore, a person of prayer must stop the secularization of believers and churches. 3) A person of prayer must destroy King Ahab, the idol of [ ] in his heart. King Ahab was a person who indulged in praising himself. King Ahab idolized himself. King Ahab put himself over the Lord. 1 King 16:30 Ahab son of Omri did more evil in the eyes of the Lord than any of those before him. 1 King 16:31 but he also married Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and began to serve Baal and worship him. 1 King 16:32 He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal that he built in Samaria. 1 King 16:33 Ahab also made an Asherah pole and did more to [ ] the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger than did all the kings of Israel before him. King Ahab did evil in the eyes of the Lord and married a secular woman who didn t worship God King Ahab served Baal and worshiped him, and he also built an altar for Baal and made Asherah poles. King Ahab ordered the building of Jericho even though God had prohibited this to happen. King Ahab was a spiritually immoral man who led the Israelites into disaster.

King Ahab angered the Lord more than all the kings of Israel did. A person of prayer should listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Person of prayer, eliminate King Ahab from your heart. You have defiance against God in your heart. Mark 2:8 You have pride against God in your heart. Luke 1:51; 16:15 You have stubbornness against God in your heart. John 12:40, 43 Eliminate pride from your heart. Eliminate will against God from your heart. Eliminate defiance against God from your heart. Eliminate stubbornness against God from your heart. Eliminate all things that anger God from your heart. Don t have the same heart as King Ahab. 4) A person of prayer must destroy Jezebel, the idol of [ ] in his heart. Jezebel, a daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, became a wife of Ahab king of Israel. 1 Kings 16:31 She was a believer of Baal, and she made the whole of Israel commit sin against God for serving idols. Jezebel was an example of heresy. She was a person who blasphemed the name of the Lord by bringing secularism into the Kingdom of the Lord. The Bible compared a church full of heresy to a church being invaded by Jezebel. The reason why Jesus rebuked the church of Thyatira was because the spirit of Jezebel invaded the church. Revelation 2:20 Nevertheless, I have this against you: you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of good sacrificed to idols. Conversation 2: Pause for thought Have you eliminated the idol of prosperity from your heart? Have you eliminated the idol of sexual immorality from your heart? Have you eliminated the idol of pride from your heart? Have you eliminated the idol of secularism from your heart?

What are the idols that still remain in your heart even though you have prayed? Prayer Application 2: Pray as you apply this in your life. Lord, destroy the idol of prosperity in my heart. Destroy the idol of sexual immorality in my heart. Destroy the idol of self in my heart. Destroy the idol of secularism full in my heart. Lord, fill my heart with your Holy Spirit Prayer Principle 3: The soul of a person of prayer is their heart. 1) God looks at a person s [ ]. 1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. 2) God does not answer whose [ ] is not right even if they pray passionately. (1) Simon s passionate prayer Acts 8:18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on the apostle s hands, he offered them money 19 and said, Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit. (2) God didn t answer Simon s passionate prayer. Acts 8:20 Peter answered: May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! 21 You have no part or share in this ministry, because your [ ] is not right before God. 3) The answer to prayer is determined by the [ ] of a person of prayer. Psalm 34:18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Conversation 3: Pause for thought How many points out of 100 can you give your heart as a person of prayer? Which word best describes your heart: a path, a rocky place, thorns, or good soil? Prayer Application 3: Pray as you apply this in your life. Lord, let my heart be united with Your heart. Don t let me miss God s answer because my heart is not right. Let me pray with all my heart all the time. Prayer Principle 4: A person of prayer who is anointed on his heart can touch God s heart. A person of prayer should be [ ]. Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart stone and give you a heart of flesh. Conversation 4: Pause for thought When your prayers have been unanswered, what do you think has been the cause? Did you think that the reason for not getting the answer you wanted was because of the condition of your heart? Is there any obstacle in your heart that prevents you receiving an answer to your prayer? Is there anything in your heart that could displease God? Prayer Application 4: Pray as you apply this in your life. Lord, anoint my heart, full of the Holy Spirit. Let my heart be renewed from the bottom to the top. Give me a new heart by the Holy Spirit, and give me a tender heart.

Prayer Principle 5: A person of prayer who is anointed in their heart can own Jesus [ ]. Philippians 2:5 Philippians 2:6 Philippians 2:7 Philippians 2:8 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. and being found in appearance of as a man, He humbled himself and became obedient to death even death on a cross! And bring the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel's table." Prayer Principle 1: A person of prayer [ ] the impossible 1) Elijah presented a [ ] to King Ahab - a spiritual Goliath. 1 Kings 18:17 When he saw Elijah, he said to him, Is that you, you troubler of Israel? 1 Kings 18:18 I have not made trouble for Israel, Elijah replied. When you need to challenge the impossible do you tend to wait or act? If you were dying, would you keep challenging the impossible until your last breath? Have you ever challenged the impossible but only by your prayer? What new challenges are you facing right now? Prayer Application 1: Pray as you apply this in your life. Lord, let me challenge the impossible. Let me challenge the impossible as I believe in the power of prayer. Whilst I still have breath, let me challenge the impossible. Let my church challenge the impossible through prayer.

Prayer Principle 2: A person of prayer gave birth to the challenge on Mount Carmel. How did the challenge on Mount Carmel come about? 1) There was a [ ] crying out on the Mount Carmel. 1 Kings 17:20 Then he cried out to the LORD, "O LORD my God, have you brought tragedy also upon this widow I am staying with, by causing her son to die?" 1 Kings 17:21 Then he stretched himself out on the boy three times and cried to the LORD, "O LORD my God, let this boy's life return to him!" 2) There was a man of [ ] on Mount Carmel. 1 Kings 17:24 Then the woman said to Elijah, "Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the LORD from your mouth is the truth." 3) There was a [ ] person of prayer who revived a dead child on Mount Carmel. 1 Kings 17:23 Elijah picked up the child and carried him down from the room into the house. God chose Mount Carmel where Elijah, the person of prayer who was spiritually communicating with God, stayed as the place of spiritual revival. A person of prayer does not envy the place. A person of prayer understands that their place is before the throne of God. A person of prayer believes that the place they lay down in prayer is going to be the beginning of spiritual revival. Mount Carmel is the place where the suffering of the servants of God never ceases. Mount Carmel is the place where spiritual life flows out. Mount Carmel is the place where a person of prayer can touch the throne of God. Mount Carmel is the beginning of spiritual revival that saves a nation. Mount Carmel is the place where a new world is created. Mount Carmel is spiritual Zion where the glory of God is revealed.

Prayer Principle 3: It was a challenge of [ ]. 1 Kings 18:19 And bring the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel's table." A person of prayer is able to distinguish truth from lies, and they take responsibility for guarding the truth and fighting against lies. But sometimes a person of prayer struggles in prayer for a long time because of challenges against the truth. Elijah, the person of prayer, put his life at risk fighting the challenges against the truth of God and the lies of idols. Modern believers should also overcome the challenges against the truth in order to receive God s blessing. Furthermore, they should add the grace of God into the truth they see. Three challenges modern believers battle with: 1. Do not accept anything non-[ ] in your life. 2. Do not make any [ ] on what s in the Bible. 3. Do not accept anything but [ ]. Lord, remove anything not of Jesus in my life. Lord, remove all lies in my life. Lord, remove anything not of Jesus in our church. Lord, remove all lies in our church.

Prayer Principle 4: It was a challenge of [ ]. 1 Kings 18:19 Now summon the people from all over Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel. And bring the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel's table." 1) A person of prayer does not fear death. Hebrews 9:27 Philippians 1:21 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 2) Blessed be the man who dies for the Lord. Revelations 14:13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, They will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.

Prayer Principle 5: It was a nationwide [ ] in public. 1) Declare a challenge in public. 1 Kings 18:19 Now summon the people from all over Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel. 2) Reveal who or what is the cause of the disaster. Who has ruined the Israelites (the nation)? 1 Kings 18:18 I have not made trouble for Israel, Elijah replied. But you and your father s family have. You have abandoned the Lord s commands and have followed the Baals. 1 Kings 18:21 Elijah went before the people and said, How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him. But the people said nothing. 3) God wanted Moses to challenge in public. Exodus 6:10 Exodus 6:11 Then the Lord said to Moses, Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt let the Israelites go out of his country. 4) Don t be afraid of a public ministry. Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk. A person of prayer often prays privately in a small room. But sometimes they should do their ministry in an open area in the name of God. When God wants a person of prayer to reveal themself in public, they should be obedient. Think about Peter s public ministry. He talked to a cripple and made him walk in public. A person of prayer often prays privately in a small room. But sometimes God wants you to do your ministry in the name of God in public. If God wants you revealed, then you should reveal yourself. Moses performed the miracle of the Red Sea in full view of people. Jesus also made a dead young man alive in full sight of people. Moses officially challenged Pharaoh and Egyptians in the palace by performing miraculous acts with his staff. The result was that Moses saved himself as well as 600,000 people of Israel. God helps a person of prayer who acknowledges God in public. Sometimes miracles occur when people declare the name of God in public. If this fits your situation, give yourself a challenge in the name of God. And go and exalt his name. He will stand by the side of a person of prayer who declares the name of the Lord. Miracles won t happen for modern churches if they only talk about God in private and theoretically. Go to the public square and declare the living God before the people. At that moment modern churches will see miracles.

You may think that Elijah the person of prayer would have been wise to have run away from his land in order to keep his life from the fallen people and then prepare to recover the Kingdom of God. But Elijah the person of prayer thought in a different way. He thought he should save his nation even if only a remnant of the nation. 1) The Kingdom of God is inherited by the [ ]. Romans 9:27 Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea, only the [ ] will be saved. 2) The remnant is the chosen one by the grace of God. The remnants over the centuries were people of prayer. Conversation 2: Pause for thought Have you ever thought of yourselves as being part of a remnant of God s people? Is where you are right now the spiritual centre from where, through you, God will save your nation? Have you struggled in the fight between truth and lies? Have you declared a challenge in public because of God? Have you ever challenged something as if it will be the last thing you will do in your life? Prayer Application 2: Pray as you apply this in your life. Lord, let me live with the calling of the remnant of God s people. Let the place where I am be the spiritual centre to save my nation. Let my heart be full of Jesus who is the truth. Let me be a person of prayer that shows the living God to the people of the world. Let me challenge the world with all my strength for I will surely enter heaven.

Do you take any risks when you challenge the impossible? Do you begin with the assurance of victory when you challenge the impossible? Prayer Application 3: Pray as you apply this in your life. Lord, let me rise to the challenge to exalt the name of the Lord when it has fallen on the ground. Let me challenge the world to show that the Lord is living. Let me challenge as I throw myself like a stone from a sling. Let me fight only with the weapon of God. Let me fight with the assurance of victory.

Prayer Principle 8: There is a [ ] for this challenge. 1) First purpose of the challenge on Mount Carmel was to show that God was a living God. 1 Kings 18:15 Elijah said, "As the LORD Almighty lives, whom I serve, I will surely present myself to Ahab today." 2) Second purpose of the challenge on Mount Carmel was to save people that were spiritually dying. 1 Kings 18:21 Elijah went before the people and said, "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him." But the people said nothing. Prayer Principle 9: The challenge of Mount Carmel began with receiving an answer of triumph during prayer. 1 Kings 18:1 After a long time, in the third year, the word of the LORD came to Elijah: "Go and present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the land."
