VOLUME FIVE ˑ ISSUE TWELVE DECEMBER 2016 Purify our conscience, Almighty God, by your daily visita on, that your Son Jesus Christ, at his coming, may find in us a mansion prepared for himself; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (Collect for the Fourth Sunday of Advent) Dear Sisters and Brothers at Trinity Church: By the me you receive this edi on of Tidings, Advent will already be in progress. For me, Advent is a season of prepara on. It provides a reminder that just as Mary waited for the Christ Child s birth and pondered in her heart all of the events that were transpiring around her and within her, we need some me to ponder too. My hope is that our Sunday morning liturgies during this season will provide just that sort of opportunity. To that end, these liturgies will incorporate some periods of brief silence, and hopefully, these moments will give us all a me to breathe, and allow our souls to catch up with our minds and bodies that always seem to be racing ahead to the next thing. This year, rather than crea ng a myriad of Advent ac vi es, I thought it might be good to focus our efforts on crea ng space (even if only an evening or two) in our respec ve calendars to simply be present with our families, our loved ones, and yes, even ourselves! And, if you find that your calendar is already jammed with commitments that you have no way of mee ng, this season might be a good me to re-evaluate how you want to live your life in the new year ahead. I will be sending a weekly Advent-themed reflec on via the Trinity E-News list on Wednesdays (November 30, December 7, 14, & 21). Printed copies will be available in the Narthex on Sunday following each Wednesday for those who do not receive the E-News. I don t know about you, but I could use a li le bit of si ng and silence this Advent. I pray this season of prepara on will be holy, good and peaceful for you all! Great Cooks in the Kitchen! The Iron Chef Compe on November 13, 2016! EYC NEWS Get ready for the next cooking event on January 15 from 6:00 8:00 pm. Fellow parishioner and professional baker Rachel Oliver will be present to teach the art of making cookies. No supper will be provided, only cookies. Bring a friend. Parents are needed to help with the shopping for ingredients. A list will be provided for you. A Message from Greater Tosa Interfaith By Amy Dedow Older adults in your neighborhood are looking for a little help. They might need a ride, help with shopping or someone to change a light bulb. Maybe they need someone to ease their loneliness. We are also looking for folks to help bake, sort and deliver cookies to our elders during the week before Christmas. If you are looking for meaningful ways to help others and improve the quality of life for our neighborhood seniors, call Greater Tosa Interfaith at 414-453-5750 to find out how satisfying it is to be a volunteer. AED and CPR at Trinity By Jill Paradowski I recently a ended an event put on by our neighborhood associa on. The Wauwatosa Fire department presented informa on on AED s and simple CPR and how we as a community can make a difference by knowing how AED s work and learning this simple CPR. Early in the New Year the Fire department will come to Trinity to teach us how to use our AED and learn the simple, hand only compression, CPR. It will prepare us to help save a life look for more informa on in 2017. Thank you to all who took the me to complete the feasibility survey. The results will guide Trinity into the future. I am praying that we will iden- fy the path God would want us to take. More to come on this too. Blessings to all of you this Advent. 5

And Now..A Word From The Senior Warden By Jill Paradowski I decided to share some thoughts about the Awesome Auc on for Outreach in my ar cle this month. This event is so important! All proceeds go to others in need. Our budget does not have a line item for outreach, so it is through events like the auc on and rummage sale that we have funds to share. We just finished our 17 th awesome auc on for outreach. I have been chairwoman for a number of years now, but this is an event that comes together with the work and leadership of a large commi ee. Here are the parishioners who pick the theme early in the year and then create the event over the next 6 months. They are Amanda Robison, Ann Brophy, Ann White, Deb Dion Simon, Tony Zaffiro, Beth Vogel, Betsy Jeffery, Leah Thornberry, Claudia Roessl, Jill Wellman, Joan Pfeil, Sharon Long, Allison Kelly and Melissa Paradowski. It takes a large commi ee to do the decora ng, theme, food, dona ons, ming, and on and on. Many of the folks have been on this commi ee for many years giving of their me and talents. Please thank them when you see them. Some others made the night special: Gary Manning, our auc oneer, Jenice Carolan (who plans the children s party with Sharon Long), Olivia and Chiara White, Belle Vining, Paul Paradowski, Dennis and Joe Mehalopoulos, Jacob Thornberry, Phyllis Teets, Elsie Hermanson, Amanda (a friend of Melissa s), Becca Land and I am sure others. Without so many people dedicated to this event, it simply would not happen. The night included a costume contest where Abe Lincoln (a.k.a. Dave Paulsen), Betsy Ross (a.k.a. Jean Bawden) and Amber waves with fruited plane (a.k.a. Bill and Amanda Robison) won for their crea ve costumes. We had a bidding war over two delicious apple pies and played heads and tails. There were small and large items available and our unbelievable two Irish co ages and a condo and co age up north all up for bid. How could our small Episcopal church be so blessed!!!! I would be remiss if I did not thank all of you who came, donated, prayed, brought a friend, bid and won. Truly without you we would not have raised over $ 13,000 (yes the first report was $12,000, but the total kept growing to beyond $13,000). Without you we would not have the fellowship and joy that comes with this event or the funds to support programs outside of our walls. In Early December, the outreach commi ee will come together and pray and then decide who will receive the proceeds from the auc- on. So thanks again for all you do to make Trinity a wonderful parish. If you want to help with next year s auc on just let me know. A few pictures from the evening can be found on the following page. 6
