KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS, CONCORD COUNCIL #112 Knightly News NOVEMBER 2010 Celebrating 115 years of service to the City of Concord VOLUME 3, ISSUE 4 In service to one. In service to all. Grand Knight s Message In my last message I made the following statement regarding the October 23 rd. Craft Fair: This has the potential to be a great fundraiser for the council, however, if it does not fill this potential I will see that it is dropped from our fund raising activities. I am so very happy to report that it fulfilled its potential and was a great success! My thanks go out to the individuals who represented the council and worked so hard to establish a blueprint that will make this a yearly event. The October Pot-Luck Social also turned out very well with close to 40 in attendance! Let s see if we can do better than that at our November Social which will feature a meal cooked by our chef Red Brochu. Grand Knight Jim Cailler In October we added three new members, Brother Bill Kielty who transferred in from South Carolina and Brothers Ken Williams and Roger Barter who made their First Degrees on October 20 th, welcome to Council 112! The Crèche will be placed the day after Thanksgiving and will be lit up that afternoon at 4pm, followed by a blessing of the tree. Please show your support for this effort. November brings with it the chill of the oncoming winter and also the promise of families coming together for the upcoming holidays. Let us assist those who are less fortunate by opening our hearts and our wallets, also pray that they too may experience the joy and love that abounds during these holidays. Chaplain s Message My Brothers in Christ, as members of the largest lay Catholic organization in the world, we have an obligation to spread Christianity. How do we do this? It really is quite simple, KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS! Let us start with Advent. Do we all have an Advent Wreath in our homes and do we say the prayers daily? Do our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren have access to the wonderful Advent calendars for children? Advent is not a penitential season such as Lent but we should do be doing something special, something different to prepare for Christmas. Could I suggest a special addition to our daily prayers asking our Lord to prepare our hearts for His birthday? Could I suggest attendance at as many daily Masses as possible? Could I suggest receiving the wonderful Sacrament of Reconciliation? How about a visit to the Eucharist Chapel at IHM or even signing up for an hour a week? Or even spending some time at IHM during our Advent 40 hours celebration in December. May I suggest also that whenever someone says happy holidays or season s greetings that we respond with Merry Christmas. Many stores instruct their sales people to not say Merry Christmas but in my experience they usually respond with a smile. May I also suggest that we should all have a Nativity Scene in our homes. Council Chaplain Father Peter Boucher In all of the hustle and bustle of the season, let us always remember THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!

P AGE 2 V OLUME 3, ISSUE 4 KNIGHTLY NEWS Council Updates 2010 Council Dues Annual dues notices will go out in early December. Regular members will owe $25 and Honorary members will be asked to continue paying $10, but may elect to pay $8.05, the amount which reflects a National Convention vote to charge these members only for Supreme and State assessments. Our $2/member assessment from Supreme for the Culture of Life (CoL) fund will be raised through other means, but all regular members may chose to include the $2 in their dues check and it will be credited to the CoL account in the Financial Secretary's and Treasurer's ledgers. Brother-to-Brother Network and Classifieds Council 112 is blessed to have a wide array of talent and resources within its membership. We encourage brothers to support their fellow brothers. Therefore we are providing an avenue for those in need of a product or service to match up with fellow brothers able to provide for that product or service. Beginning with our December newsletter, we will dedicate space each month to a Brother-to-Brother Network. Brothers or immediate family members who have their own business, or would like to promote a business for which they work, are encouraged to purchase a business card space in our network at the rate of $10 per year. Furthermore, do you have some stuff around the house you would like to sell? Send a brief description of what you have and how you can be contacted, and we ll include it in the Classifieds portion, at no charge. There may be no charge for classified submissions, however space will be limited to four lines (approximately 180 characters, including spaces) per brother per month. Submissions will be valid for one monthly newsletter cycle only. All items must be received no later than the last calendar day of a month for inclusion in the following month s newsletter. All listings will be displayed in the order received. Please contact Bob Nadeau at 783-6043 or bobnadeau@comcast.net for more information or to arrange a submission. Men s Knight Out - Game Night and Social Join us on Wednesday, December 1, starting at 7:00pm for what we hope will be a monthly social event exclusively for brother Knights...an opportunity to socialize with fellow knights in a completely casual atmosphere. No meetings, no agenda - just purely social. Maybe you enjoy a game of cribbage or of hold-em? Team up with other brothers and play a game or two. Have some other game you would like to play? Bring it along and see if you can get others to join you. Rather just sit and chat? You can do that too. We ll gather at the Council Hall in the lower level. Hope you can drop in. November Social Don t forget to join us for our next monthly social, Monday November 22, social at 6:00 and dinner at 7:00. Red Brochu will be cooking a delicious ham dinner. All are invited. Christmas and New Year s Family Event Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 18 to attend an event you and your family will not want to miss. Our Christmas and New Year s Family Event will be an opportunity for your family to share the excitement of the season with the families of your fellow brothers. Complete details will be available in the December newsletter. Recent Exemplifications Congratulations to Roger Barter and Ken Williams who received the honor of membership in the first degree at an exemplification ceremony held in Tilton on October 20. Welcome Roger and Ken to the world s largest Catholic lay organization. We look forward to your growth within the Order and your assistance throughout the community. Pictured (l-r) are Jim Marshall, Roger Barter New 1 st Degree Knight, Ken Williams New 1 st Degree Knight, Francis Munjone, George Weber and Bill Fahy Degree ceremonies take place throughout the year at numerous locations. All Brothers are encouraged to elevate their membership to at least the Third Degree, to fully participate in Council activities. If you wish to join the Knights or to pursue higher degree levels, contact Bill Fahy at 219-0455 or by email at wfahy@comcast.net.

Knights of Columbus, Concord Council #112 P AGE 3 Council Updates November Birthday Brothers We wish the following brothers a very happy birthday, on their respective days: 1 Jack Clougherty 7 Bob Nadeau 8 Emmanual Brochu 8 Peter Holmes 9 Philip M Harte 10 Dan Stanley, Sr. 11 Jim Kalinski 11 Tim Lopez 11 Dick Nadeau 15 Tony Marino 16 Joel Emlen 16 Doug Kelly 16 Brendan Monaghan 20 Francis Munjone 21 Tom DeStafano 22 Harold Henderson 22 Charlie Auth 29 Arthur Sinotte Please join us at the monthly business meeting, as we celebrate the birthdays for the month with some birthday cake! Keep Christ in Christmas Ready or not, Christmas is right around the corner!! With all of the distractions of the season, it's the simple reminders that cause us to pause and reflect on our Savior's birth. As Knights and fellow Christians, we have developed a way to keep the focus of the Christmas Season on the true meaning of Christmas... Christ! Make a public statement about the foundation of your Christian faith and display a reminder on your vehicle. Magnets will be on sale at area Church fairs and at all Knight social events. We have also received a beautiful selection of Christ-oriented Christmas Cards you can share with your family and friends. Cards will be on sale through the Christmas Season at all Knight of Columbus events. Boxes of cards can also be ordered, so you can obtain the quantity and selection you need. Attached to this newsletter is a brochure depicting the styles available along with an order form. Simply mark the form with the quantity and styles you want, and return it with a check for the total. An order for cards will be made on November 19 for orders received up to that point. Delivery should be received by December 3. For more information, contact Bob Nadeau at 783-6043 or bobnadeau@comcast.net. Insurance Agent s Corner Field Agent Matt Poulin The laws and rules of our Order, as well as state (provincial) laws, specify that the Knights of Columbus may accept insurance applications only from Knights of Columbus members. As a member, you may apply for insurance on yourself, your wife and your minor children. The Order s Board of Directors has taken action, though, to assure that a Knight s widow maintains the right to purchase additional insurance for a limited time. This can be of great benefit and comfort to those we leave behind. This right to apply is available only to the widows of insured members. If a member has not availed himself of our highly rated life insurance program, or purchased an annuity or long-term care policy, this benefit is not available to his widow. But if the member was an insured member, his widow has the right to apply for additional insurance on her life and on the lives of the member s minor children. This right can be exercised for up to one year following the Order s receipt of proof of the insured s death. Know two things. First, I ll assist your widow and children in any way possible if you should die, both with your Knights of Columbus insurance and any other life insurance you may have. Second, I ll provide them my best professional advice and service, to assure that they continue to have adequate insurance protection. As a professional agent and a brother Knight, I have no greater responsibility. I m at 228-3029. Call me let s talk. Join your fellow brothers as we pray the Rosary at 6:30 on the second Monday of every month in the lower level of the Council Hall, prior to the beginning of our monthly business meeting.
