1875 Gold Hill Road, Fort Mill, SC The Encouraging Word Our Vision To be a praying church that EXALTS His name in worship, EQUIPS His church for spiritual growth, and ENGAGES His world through local and global missions. Volume 20 January 2015 Number 01 JANUARY 1 JANUARY 4 JANUARY 5 JANUARY 9 JANUARY 10 & 24 DATES TO REMEMBER NEW YEAR - TIME TO WRITE YOUR RESOLUTIONS. WHERE ARE YOU PUTTING THE LORD? IS HE AT THE TOP OF LIST OR SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN? CHILDREN S MINISTRY TEAM MEETING CHURCH OFFICE OPENS HONDURAS TEAM LEAVES FOR HONDURAS MEN S SATURDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY JANUARY 13, 20 & 27 LADIES BIBLE STUDY - THE CHILDREN OF THE DAY JANUARY 18 JANUARY 25 EDGE AND SNL KICK OFF ELDERS AND DEACONS MEETING SUNDAY SCHOOL CONSIDER STARTING THE NEW YEAR BY CONNECTING WITH A SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS. IT S AN EXCELLENT TIME TO STUDY GOD S WORD IN A SMALL GROUP SETTING AS WELL AS AN OPPOR- TUNITY TO FELLOWSHIP WITH OTHER BELIEVERS. IF YOU ARE UNSURE WHICH CLASS TO ATTEND, ASK WHEN YOU ENTER THE FOYER AND SOMEONE WILL BE GLAD TO HELP YOU MAKE A CHOICE. THERE IS A PLACE FOR EACH MEMBER OF YOUR FAMILY.

To Watch Or Not To Watch Hollywood is continuing their trend of making certain biblical events into movies. This trend is not necessarily good or bad depending on how accurate the movie is to the text. Let s be sure to keep two truths in mind. First, no movie is authoritative. Only Scripture has the authority to command belief. Second, even the most biblically accurate movies should never take the place of reading and studying Scripture for ourselves. Take the latest release for example, Exodus: Gods and Kings by 20 th Century Fox which is advertised as a depiction of the biblical account of the exodus from Egypt. I have not seen the movie but one review indicates many inaccuracies when compared with the biblical text. In addition, there are some disturbing comments by the movie s director and lead actor. Film director Ridley Scott said, The biggest source of evil is of course religion, he told Esquire in 2012. When the interviewer pressed him on the point, Scott said, Can you think of a good one? A just and kind and tolerant religion? " Actor Christian Bale, who played Moses, said of his character, " I think the man [Moses] was likely schizophrenic and was one of the most barbaric individuals that I ever read about in my life. He was a very troubled, tumultuous man and mercurial. But the biggest surprise was the nature of God. He was equally very mercurial. " The question among some in the Christian community is Should we support such films by renting, buying, or going to see them in the theater? Ultimately, that is up to you as you consider various factors. Personally, I cannot recommend such films as they seem only to pilfer the popularity of a biblical and historical account that ultimately points to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and use it to pad their pockets. In Christ Alone, From Pastor Brad Brad PASTOR S DEVOTIONAL If you are interested in receiving Pastor Brad s weekly email devotional, Prayer Points, please send him an email to be placed on the distribution list. brad@tegacaybaptist.org Music Notes A big THANK YOU to all those involved in TCBC's presentation of An Advent Family Christmas Musical. This one night dinner show portrayed the wonderful meaning of the Advent season, and I don't believe we could have fit anymore tables and chairs in our Worship Center. Our adorable preschool choir started the show with two precious songs followed by a familiar Christmas carol by our handbell choir. We were then treated to the message of Advent through adults singing, children singing, adults and children singing together, great drama scenes, dancers, our youth band, solos, duets, a trio...it was packed with variety but with an elegantly common theme. Through music and drama, we were all reminded of the beauty of Christ's coming. A special thanks to Melissa Taylor for having the vision for the show, for writing the script, for picking out music, and for bringing all the pieces together. This production truly pulled from talent all across our church, and how great is was to see so many involved either directly in the show or helping behind the scenes. There was so much preparation over the last few months, and there are so many people that deserve thanks. I pray during this time of Christmas that we truly reflect on the beauty of Christ's coming to earth, and that we worship Him for the Hope, the Peace, the Joy, and the Love that only He provides! In Christ, Rodger
