News at First Volume 46 Issue 07 July 2017 Greetings from David Dear Fellow Ministers, July is going to be a different month for me. Our family grows by one as our son, Luke, marries a beautiful young lady named Kelly Beasley on July 8! We are very blessed to have a family formed by the church. Luke and Kelly, Maggie, Pam, and I have all been taught about God s love through church family. Thank you for being a part of what the body of Christ means! Also, July will be a little different for me because at the urging of our Staff Parish Relations Committee, Pam and I will be taking a few weeks away. We plan to travel, read, and rest. That is a great gift. Thank you! I am excited that our great Associate Minister, Rev. Juston Smith, will be preaching on the middle three weeks of July. It s a great opportunity for you to get to know him better and to be led by him. As always, I invite you to pray with us through our sermon texts as God forms a sermon in us each week. -July 2 Matthew 10:40-42 (David preaching) -July 9 Romans 7:15-25a (Juston preaching) -July 16 Romans 8:1-11 (Juston preaching) -July 23 Romans 8:12-25 (Juston preaching) -July 30 Romans 8:26-39 (David preaching) Please lift up all folks who help lead worship and thank God for what they do. Summer is a great time to invite someone to come to worship with you! Please remember, in all your travels, that you can tune in to our services each Sunday via Live-stream on our web page (fumcgastonia.org) or Facebook page. This month will be our annual Camp Sunshine as well. Please lift up our counselors, volunteers, and especially the children who will have a week long day camp adventure through the generosity of this church. Those children would not be able to afford such an experience unless we provided it. What a blessing! Also, remember our Youth Mission Team heading to Memphis in July. God is up to a lot! Let s keep at it I look forward to being in mission and ministry with you in July! In Christ s Service, David Our mission is to see Christ in every person we encounter and demonstrate to them the love of God and the teachings of Jesus. Contact: Rev. NEWS FUMCG Family: I m so excited for all the summer plans we have scheduled in Bessemer City. The partnership has much to offer in the coming months for both churches. We look forward to participating in all the children s events and I hope you will join us for some of our events. Our seniors who have yet to finalize their name, have scheduled three events for the summer. If one or all look like something of interest, please give me a call and come join the fun! Also we are planning three Devotions and Desserts evening this summer. Our first one will be held on June 29th. Just call me for more details! We hope by having these get-togethers in various neighborhoods throughout Bessemer City, where we can share more information about the church, the partnership, and Christ! One of these things is the amazing kindness of the First United Methodist Church. Thanks to the generosity of your Christmas Angels over 60 of our students with need had a joyful Christmas morning while over 40 other children with need have received bags of food each Friday throughout the year through the Backpack Food program. And please, let s not forget the over 20 special kids that will be attending Camp Sunshine this summer or the school supplies and clothing that seem to appear in our front office when we need them the most. While you may not be here to see their precious faces, your continued generosity and support has helped our students to feel very special indeed. You have also helped our school staff feel that there are caring souls in our community committed to supporting the important work that we do everyday. Please know that your acts of compassion ripple through our school and our neighborhood. Pleasant Ridge is so grateful for the continued support from our FUMC church sponsors. We wish you and your family a healthy and happy Summer. Kind Regards, James Giambusso, School Counselor
