God is with you THE WELCOME PICTURE SCHEDULE: WELCOME TIME Welcome each child as they arrive. Hello. I m glad you are here! Come and see what we are going to do today. Point to each card on the Picture Schedule board. Today, we will WELCOME everyone. We will read the BIBLE story and make a CRAFT. We will have PRAYER time and eat a SNACK. We will play GAMES and enjoy COLORING a picture about today s story. Open the Treasure Chest to find today s treasure. Child unlocks the Treasure Chest to receive a stamp or sticker of an angel. Let this stamp (or sticker) of an angel help you remember that just as the angel was with Daniel in the lions den, God is with you wherever you go. Today s Whisper Verse is God is with you. Teach the Whisper Verse in spoken language and in sign language below. We call it the Whisper Verse so you can whisper it to others.* SIGN LANGUAGE: God is with you. (For visual demonstrations, see www.signingsavvy.com.) Each time we say today s Whisper Verse, let s say it with three hand motions: God (is) with you. Using a "B" hand with palm facing left, the right hand starts slightly above the forehead, then moves in a backward-downward arc, ending in front of the upper chest. Make a fist with each hand. Create the letter A hand shape with each hand by placing the thumb on the top of the index finger of each closed fist. Bring both fists together in front of the body so the second knuckles your fists are together. The index finger of the right hand points forward as the arm moves forward from the body at waist level. Allow children to enjoy free play until everyone has arrived. Let s sing the Clean Up Song as we put toys away before Praise Time. Praise any child who helps. Allow several minutes for clean up. Clean Up Song : Clean up! Clean up! Everybody, everywhere! Clean up! Clean up! Everybody do your share! Gather and seat children in Praise Time area. *Today s Whisper Verse: God is with you, Genesis 21:22a. The Whisper Verse is a tool to help the children learn a major point in the lesson. It is coupled with sign language or hand motions as a memory aid. The verse is not necessarily chosen from today s Bible story. Page 3 of 12

The God who is Lord of all THE WORSHIP PICTURE SCHEDULE: WORSHIP TIME Choose a child to remove the WELCOME picture card and place it in the FINISHED envelope. We have finished our Welcome Time. Now, we will have our Worship Time. Children may worship in a large group with other classes or in a quiet room with a worship CD or DVD. Teacher Tip: To help children identify time set aside for worship, play It s Praise Time! as children move to a designated place for praise songs, offering, and the worship illustration. Children who are nonverbal may enjoy participating in the music by playing children s percussion instruments such as maracas, jingle bells, wood blocks, or small tambourines. Children who are sensitive to sound may prefer to wear noise reduction headphones. It s Praise Time our time to sing praise to the God who is Lord of all. That means He is the one in control of everything in heaven and on earth. He is with us and watches over us wherever we go. That is today s Whisper Verse. Let s try it together. Review the Whisper Verse: God is with you. Include sign language. Today s Whisper Verse reminds me of a song about how God is with us and watches over us everywhere we go! Sing: I Am with You. God is with us right now. He watches over us and hears us when we sing to Him. Let s thank Him for being with us by giving our offering to His church. Sing: Give Thanks while collecting the offering. In today s story, Daniel was thrown into a den of lions. Daniel knew God was with him. God sent an angel to shut the mouths of the lions. By sending the angel, He saved Daniel from being hurt. Sing: Mighty to Save. God is Lord over the angels and the lions. Let s find out if Delbert and Lello know about Daniel and the lions den. Perform The Adventures of Delbert and Lello puppet script or read storybook: Prophets & Promises Unit 9, Lesson 46.* This miracle in the lions den showed everyone God was with Daniel and He is with us. He is the Lord over everything including angels and lions! Let s praise Him for the way He shows us He is with us! Sing: Let Everything That Has Breath. * May substitute Lesson 45 The Love Sub script or storybook. Page 4 of 12

Daniel and the lions den THE WORD PICTURE SCHEDULE: BIBLE TIME Choose a child to remove the WORSHIP picture card and place it in the FINISHED envelope. We have finished our Worship Time. Now, we will have our Bible Time. Last time, we learned about Ezekiel and the sheep. Today, we will learn how God sent an angel to protect Daniel in the lions den. Handle the Bible as a special treasure, leaving it open to Daniel 6:22. WATCH THE WORD: DANIEL 6:14-23, 25-27 Read the points below or retell the passage in your own words using the points below as a general guide. To illustrate the story, display a toy angel or a picture of an angel. Have children assist by placing Bible Story figures on a flannel board. Other visual options include Color This Story or a related picture. Optional: To help children focus, have them create an angel from clay or play dough as they listen. Daniel was a good man. He was thrown into the lions den. The king was very worried, For Daniel was his friend. Daniel said, I am safe, For an angel God did send. The angel shut the lions mouths; God saved me in the lions den. The king was very happy. He made a new law for the land. He said, All must honor Daniel s God, For God s kingdom will not end! Who did God send to shut the lions mouths? (His angel.) Let s find our answer in the Bible. Read Daniel 6:22 from the teacher s Bible. By sending the angel to shut the mouths of the lions, God showed He was with Daniel. Who is with you now just He was with Daniel? (God.) Our Whisper Verse tells us the answer. Let s say it together: God is with you. Include the sign language or hand motions. Page 5 of 12

For the head, place a pompom or 2 cotton balls in the center of a second coffee filter. 3. Wrap the coffee filter around the pompom or cotton balls. 4. For the body, insert a third coffee filter into the open end of the second coffee filter, tucking it into the head area to give the dress a layered effect. 5. Who did God send to close the mouths of the lions when Daniel was in the lions den? How do you think Daniel felt to see the angel appear in the lions den? Did you know God is with you, just as He was with Daniel? PRAY! Pray this prayer each day this week: Lord, thank You for always being with us. When we are afraid, help us remember You are with us. Amen. PLAY! Roaring Lion Tag. Choose one friend or family member to be the angel. Everyone else is a roaring lion. Each time the angel gently tags a roaring lion, the lion closes his or her mouth and stands perfectly still. When all the roaring lions are silent and still, choose a different angel and play again.
