If you have been considering joining the choir, now is a good time to do so! Deacon Ordination Service September 9 Make plans to join us in worship on September 9 for the Deacon Ordination Service! This year we will be ordaining two new deacons, Keith Brooks and Elizabeth Biser, after which we will officially commission and install the new deacon board for the year. This service is always a special time of celebrating the lay leaders who play such a vital role in guiding our church community. Youth Kick-Off September 9 The Youth Ministry will kick off the new church year on September 9! We will have a picnic and games at McDonald Woods Park in Cary from 5-7 pm. Family Promise Week Needs September 2-9 Van drivers are needed to transport families between Greenwood Forest and the Family Promise Day Center in Raleigh using the Family Promise fifteen passenger van. Morning drivers pick up from GFBC at 6:30am. Evening drivers pick up from the Day Center between 5:50 & 6:00 pm. If you would like to volunteer to be a van driver, contact Paul Smith at fat37ply@nc.rr.com. In addition, anyone can help with setup immediately following worship on the first Sunday of host week (September 2)! Set-up involves rolling the cots from the trailer into the classroom area, making up the beds, and distributing hand towels, night lights and alarm clocks. Take-down occurs at 7:30 am on the last Sunday of host week (September 9). We gather and bag the used linens to be washed, roll the cots back to the trailer, and vacuum the classrooms. GFBC at Pleasant Grove Revival September 25 Pastor Efird and the GFBC Music Ministry have been invited to participate in a revival service at Pleasant Grove Church in Cary on Tuesday, September 25 at 6:45 pm. Mark your calendars for this special night! Caregiver Academy GFBC will be hosting a six-session Caregiver Academy entitled Powerful Tools for Caregivers sponsored by The Center for Volunteer Giving. These 90-minute sessions will occur on Tuesday afternoons from 1:30-3:00 pm beginning on September 11 and ending on October 23 in Room C225. Peace Artwork on Display A new art exhibit is now on display in the adult Faith Formation hallway! Several artists at GFBC have created pieces of art around the theme of "peace." Dorcas Ministries is now accepting applications for Jobs for Life, a faith-based employment program to help you chart a path to a new job. Graduates of the program will be able to speak more confidently in front of a group, have a professional resume, meet with local employers, be prepared and confident in job interviews, have a clearer picture of what they want in life, and have a deeper faith in God s plan for them.
