ALL THE PARABLES OF JESUS A SYSTEMATIC SERIES UNVEILING GODS ETERNAL TRUTH IN THE PARABOLIC TEACHINGS OF JESUS CHRIST MEDIA REFERENCE NUMBER WNX591 APRIL 24, 2013 THE TITLE OF THE MESSAGE: The Parable Of The Unmerciful Servant ALL THE PARABLES OF JESUS UNVEILED Parable #8 SUBJECT TOPICALLY REFERENCED UNDER: Forgiveness, Restoration, Mercy, Parables, Truth Matthew 18:15-35 The Teaching & Preaching Ministry of Jesus Christ Was, and is Given with The Sole Purpose of Redemptive-Restoration John 3:15-18 Whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. :18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. So The Teaching & Preaching of Jesus Christ is a; Redemptive-Restoration at a cost = Responsibility. And to do that God has sent Mankind His Word Hos. 12:10 I have also spoken by the prophets, And have multiplied visions; I have given symbols through the witness of the prophets. 1
Heb. 1:1-2 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, :2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, The Bible & The Word is One John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. Matt. 13:1-3a On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea. :2 And great multitudes were gathered together to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. :3a Then He spoke many things to them in parables - - Get This Church A parable put forth to the hearer (watch their response) is equal to the hearers response to the person of Jesus Christ. (again, watch their response) Ps. 78:2 ESV I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old, John 16:25 NLT I have spoken of these matters in figures of speech, but soon I will stop speaking figuratively and will tell you plainly all about the Father. Jesus Begins with Chapter 18 with a Profound Truth Matt. 18:2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me. The Setting: Matt. 18:15-20 Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector. :18 Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose 2
on earth will be loosed in heaven. :19 Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them. This is deep and yet common. Common in the sense that people sin against us all the time. Deep, in that Jesus teaching on how to deal with it was never before known to us. The Question: Matt. 18:21 Then Peter came to Him and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times? The Answer: Matt. 18:22-35 Jesus said to him, I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. 23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all. 27 Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. :28 But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me what you owe! 29 So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay you all. 30 And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done. 32 Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 33 Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you? 34 And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. :35 So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses. Our view and value of forgiveness is inseparably tied to our hatred and disdain of sin. 3
Why is this important? Because it directly shapes how you & I deal with others in our lives. The Parable Of The Unmerciful Servant What It Means To Forgive And To Be Forgiven 1.) Be like Jesus and be forgiving Matt. Peter is Thinking like a good Jew Here (+) Matt. 18:21 Then Peter came to Him and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times? Amos 2:6 NLT This is what the LORD says: The people of Israel have sinned again and again, (3x) and I will not let them go unpunished! (3+3=6+1+7= Iʼm really being big hearted) The Situation: Matt. 18:15 Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. Privacy is Commanded by Jesus why? (1) To maintain an atmosphere of restoration. (2) To spare shame and resentment. (3) To prevent gossip. (4) adding to the sin. 4
Matt. 18:15 Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. We re not to be concerned about WINNING THE ARGUMENT but rather WINNING A BROTHER Example: I will never really love someone unless my love is greater than their sin. But because I do love them I am willing to reach out to them 1 Corinthians 13:5 NIV Love does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it (love) keeps no record of wrongs. The Parable is about fellowship and relationship and sadly today many professing Christians suffer from the lack of both. Having no fellowship and no relationship with God or man, they have become sterile. Sin has silenced them. They have received forgiveness but they have never experienced forgiveness. - Dr. Warren Wiersbe Lets Pray Tonight For a Greater Revelation of God I Wanna Invite You to Come Forward Tonight >>>> The Cross, The Christ, The Call <<<< End of Study Copyright April 24, 2013 by Jack Hibbs 5
