November 6, 2016 ST. ROSE OF LIMA PARISH Page 3 Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time LIFE EVERLASTING The second book of Maccabees tells a powerful story, and a rather gruesome one at that. But central to it, beyond the horrible deaths inflicted upon the brothers and their mother, is their belief in the promise of resurrection and life everlasting in God. Paul asks the Thessalonians to pray for him as he spreads Christ s message of love, so that he might be delivered from other nonbelievers anxious to do him harm. The apostle is confident in such prayer, just as he is confident in the everlasting support of Jesus and God the Father. And there s that everlasting word again. The Sadducees, not buying the idea, ask Jesus an interesting albeit meaningless question about the status of married life at the Resurrection. He tells the non-believers that marriage isn t an issue for the risen children of God. More importantly, he assures them that their ancestors do live on in God, even as evidenced by the Father s words to Moses. HOLY YEAR OF MERCY As you are aware that the Holy Year of Mercy is coming to a close on November 20th, 2016. During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, an indulgence may be obtained when you visit one of the designated holy sites, participate in a sacred celebration, or at least remain for a congruous period of time in prayer and pious meditation, concluding with the recitation of the Our father, the Profession of Faith in any legitimate form, and invocations to the Blessed Virgin Mary and depending the circumstances, to the Holy Apostles and patron saints. Pope Leo XIII in his encyclical Mirae caritatis Inviting New Altar Servers! Saint Rose of Lima Parish is in need of additional Altar Servers. We would like to extend an invitation to the children of the parish to become an Altar Server. If your child is ten years of age or older and has received the Sacrament of First Communion, he or she is eligible to participate in our Altar Server Program.
