BECOMING AWARE OF GOD The Love That Lives by W. D. Dorrity Every child on earth is holy, Every crib is a manger lowly, Every home is a stable dim, Every kind word is a hymn, Every star is God s own gem, And every town is Bethlehem, For Christ is born and born again, When His love lives in the hearts of men. GATHERING RINGING OF THE SANCTUS BELL VOLUNTARY * CALL TO WORSHIP adapted from Psalm 148 Dale Osborne One: Praise the Divine Creator! Praise the Divine Creator from the heavens! Let all angels and heavenly beings shout praise! Many: Praise God, sun and moon; praise God, all you shining stars! Shout praise you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens! One: Let them praise the name of the Divine One, who commanded and they were created. God established them forever and ever. Many: Praise God from the earth, you sea monsters and all deeps, fired and hail, snow and frost, stormy wind fulfilling God s command! Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars! One: Wild animals and all cattle, creeping things and flying birds! All who are in positions of power and all peoples of the earth! Young men and women alike, old and young together! ALL: Let them praise the name of God, for Divine glory is above earth and heaven. * HYMN Hark! The Herald Angels Sing 150 MENDELSSOHN * PASSING THE PEACE OF CHRIST One: The peace of Christ be with you! Many: And also with you! Please greet one another with this ancient sign of welcome and extension of hospitality and peace.

* SONG OF PRAISE Gloria WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS Please pass the Friendship Registers found on each row. Complete the requested information and then pass it back down the row. Thank you for worshipping with us at Binkley! RENEWING OURSELVES IN CHRIST THROUGH WORD & SONG THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON Isaiah 61:10-62:3 CONTEMPORARY LESSON No Sweeter Thing by Adelaide Love MEDITATIVE MUSICAL LESSON (The seemingly secular song below, played on piano by Mike Davis, is one of beauty and holy reminiscence. As you read, pray and listen, breathe in your own memories of celebrating the birth of Jesus. Remember Christus natus est, Christ is Born, and remember also that Christ can live in you and through you as you live out Jesus Gospel message of love and forgiveness.) Christmas time is here, happiness and cheer, fun for all that children call their favorite time of year. Snowflakes in the air, carols everywhere, olden times and ancient rhymes and love and dreams to share. Christmas Time is Here by Lee Mendelson and Vince Guaraldi Sleigh bells in the air; beauty every where; yuletide by the fireside and joyful memories there. Christmas time is here; we'll be drawing near; oh that we could always see such spirit through the year.

CONTEMPORARY LESSON The Glory of Christmas by Laverne Riley O Brien THE EPISTLE LESSON Galatians 4:4-7 *HYMN OF THE SEASON Twas in the Moon of Wintertime 166 JESOUS AHATONHIA THE GOSPEL LESSON Luke 2:22-40 One: This is the Gospel of Christ. Many: Thanks be to God. MEDITATING & PRAYING WITH THE DIVINE HEARING OUR JOYS & CONCERNS PASTORAL PRAYER CHRISTMASTIDE MEDITATION Two Who Were Inspired Dale Osborne * RESPONSE For All Who Give You a Face 157 PRESENTING OUR GIFTS OFFERTORY Some Children See Him Alfred Burt, arr. Marlowe Some children see him lily white, the baby Jesus born this night, with tresses soft and fair. Some children see him bronzed and brown, The Lord of heav'n to earth come down, with dark and heavy hair. Some children see him almond-eyed, this savior whom we kneel beside, with skin of yellow hue. Some children see him dark as they, sweet Mary's son to whom we pray, and, ah, they love him, too. The children in each diff'rent place will see the baby Jesus' face like theirs but bright with heav'nly grace, and filled with holy light. O lay aside each earthly thing, and with thy heart as offering, come worship now the infant king. 'Tis love that's born tonight. * DOXOLOGY Please sign with the leader or simply sing. LASST UNS ERFREUEN Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below, Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise God above, ye heavenly host; Creator, Christ, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

American Baptist Home Mission Societies and Binkley Strongly Supporting Puerto Rico ABHMS launches 'Rebuilding, Restoring, Renewing Puerto Rico' multi-year initiative In response to the devastating one-two punch leveled at Puerto Rico by hurricanes Irma and Maria, American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS), in partnership with American Baptist Churches USA, has launched "Rebuilding, Restoring, Renewing Puerto Rico." The multi-year initiative seeks to raise $1 million through One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) to support rebuilding communities and lives. ABHMS has pledged $25,000, matching OGHS funds already earmarked for Puerto Rico recovery. "We will work with our American Baptist partners to restore all 114 churches and nine missions in Iglesias Bautistas de Puerto Rico " says ABHMS Executive Director Dr. Jeffrey Haggray. The first phase will address Puerto Rico's pressing need for supplies, including bottled water; medicines; baby wipes, diapers and formula; canned milk; bedding; insect repellant; first-aid kits; and construction materials. ABHMS maintains a longstanding relationship with American Baptist Churches of Puerto Rico. The American Baptist Home Mission Society, a forerunner of today's ABHMS, established the first Baptist church in Rio Piedras in 1899 and sponsored home missionaries from the mainland who ministered across the island. Contributions of any size will make a big difference to our American Baptist family in Puerto Rico. One hundred percent of donations go to relief efforts. One third of Binkley s Christmas Eve offering will be directed to Puerto Rico support through the efforts of ABHMS. Thank you for helping your church provide effective support for our friends in Puerto Rico. Make checks payable to Binkley with Christmas Eve in the item section.
