Cincinnati Chapter Sons of the American Revolution Cincinnati PATRIOT Volume 30, Issue 10, October 2016 CCSAR BOM September Meeting Recap Busy Summer Many Awards Distributed After a three- month summer break the Cincinnati Chapter Sons of the American Revolution Board of Management reconvened for their September Meeting. A full agenda was on tap as there were many awards to distribute following the SAR National Meeting that was held this past July in Boston. New members were inducted, supplemental patriots were recognized and new business was discussed. Franz Ott receives from Chapter President Michael Gunn one of his many awards from the National Congress Meeting. 1 st Sponsorship State Certificate Liberty Medal 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters NSSAR Florence Kendall Award Congratulations Franz for your dedication and diligence as our Chapter Registrar! Chapter President Michael Gunn displays the Chapter s Presidents Streamer, showing the 11 stars that we received. The stars represent our participation in Patriot Biography submissions, in which we placed 4 th nationally. Other national awards that President Gunn presented to the Chapter were: The Liberty Bell Americanism Award for the extensive list of programs involvement by our members; Youth Programs and Contests, Naturalizations, New Memberships and Supplemental Memberships, Grave Markings, Patriotic Programs (Presidents Day, Flag Day, Flag Retirement, etc. The Partners in Patriotism Certificate for our work with Veterans. 1 P a g e

Honor Flight After numerous times welcoming veterans home from their Honor Flight at CVG Airport, Compatriot Jerry Knight had his turn in the spotlight as he was privileged to participate in the September 20th Honor flight and was greeted home by President Gunn and Compatriots, Blum, Bredenfoerder, Carpenter and Stokeley. Thank you Jerry! Nolan Carson Color Guard Marches in Mason Parade The Cincinnati Chapter Nolan Carson Memorial Color Guard marched in the Mason, Ohio Patriot Fair Parade on Saturday, September 17. Marching were President Mike Gunn and Compatriots Jack Bredenfoerder, Brad Jarad, Conner Smith, Greg Ballman and Ken Carpenter.

Constitution Day Luncheon The Cincinnati Chapter SAR hosted their annual Constitution Day Luncheon On September 11, 2016 at RSVP on Wards Corner Road. The chapter remembered the 15th anniversary of 9-11 as well as celebrating our Nation's Constitution. Our featured speaker was Sonja Stratman who shared her childhood experiences of being raised in Germany during WWII.

Naturalization Ceremonies On Thursday, September 15, CCSAR President Mike Gunn and Compatriots Jack Bredenfoerder, Ken Carpenter, Jerry Knight and Brad Jarad welcomed over 80 new citizens at the Naturalization ceremony held at Miami University Hamilton. The Hon. Stephanie K. Bowman officiated. On Monday, October 3rd, CCSAR President Mike Gunn and Compatriots Bredenfoerder and Carpenter welcomed about 40 new citizens at a Naturalization ceremony held at the Southern Ohio US District Court. The Hon. Stephanie K. Bowman officiated.

Williamsburg Cemetery Memorial President Mike Gunn and Compatriots Bredenfoerder, Carpenter and Jarad rededicated the SAR Revolutionary Patriot Memorial in Williamsburg Cemetery, Williamsburg, Ohio on Saturday, September 24. The rededication preceded the Williamsburg Cemetery Founders Day Cemetery Tour. Three tour groups visited 10 different sites within the cemetery. The sites were hosted by different speakers who delivered presentations about the key early founders of Williamsburg, Ohio. Compatriot Bredenfoerder delivered a presentation about his ancestor James Kain, Jr. who is buried in the cemetery. The James Kain Family was the first family to settle in Williamsburg. James was a Revolutionary patriot serving as a guard to the Continental Congress and a private in the Lancaster, PA Militia. His tavern was the first business to be established in Williamsburg. The event was sponsored by the Harmony Hill Association to benefit the Harmony Hill Museum in Williamsburg.
