Monthly A Monthly Newsletter Newsletter of the of the Colorado Colorado Horeb Horeb Mar Mar Thoma Thoma Church Church SEPTEMBER 2013 Dearly beloved in Christ, I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and I am persuaded, now lives in you also (2 Timo 1: 5 ) In Paul's prayer for Timothy, he is reminded of how Timothy came to faith in Christ. It all started with Timothy's grandmother Lois and then his mother Eunice. Timothy was a third generation Christian, someone raised in a Christian home. But his vision began to fade. Message of the Month Rev. V.G. VARUGHESE As Paul had sent him to the Ephesian Church, he found himself in way over his head. The entire leadership team in the Ephesian Church was older than he was, and did not respect his leadership. To make matters worse, he was shy and timid. The stress of his ministry assignment was affecting his health as he found himself sick with constant stomach ailments. At this juncture, Paul had even to say to Timothy to use a little wine because of his stomach and frequent illnesses. In the meantime, his beloved mentor the apostle Paul had been arrested by the Roman Government. Timothy needed his vision renewed and that is a big reason why Paul wrote him a second letter. To renew his vision, Paul suggests to think of his mother's and grandmother's faith. In all our trials and tribulations, we can be renewed to a certain extend by remembering our mother 's prayer and faith in their difficult situations and also their concern for us in our faith. Youth Corner He Can Wait By Bency Abraham Why is it that Christians never seem to "have time" for God? What is our logic when we utter that common phrase? He does not possess the same time-consciousness as we do. Rather, time is merely superficial to Him. He is, He was, and He will always be. So if we keep him waiting for a little bit more it is alright, correct? He will always be there waiting, right? How come this thought is a common occurrence among Christians more so than those following other religions? Most religions - excluding Christianity - focus on attaining a higher status in the next life based on their works. It is believed that the greater one's deeds are, the greater their chance is of getting into heaven or an equal elevation in the upcoming life - a step higher up on the ladder. Lives lived like these only result in depression - a depression earned from never being able to be classified as "good or righteous enough". Such a lifestyle flickers and burns out leaving no hope behind. Unlike the aforementioned, Christianity offers hope when all else seems lost through God's grace. Accepting Jesus Christ Lord as well as acknowledging each and every soul alone As we begin to increasingly realize the sacrifice made by our Lord in addition to His everlasting patience and enduring love, the desire to form a more intimate relationship with Jesus and live a lifestyle mirroring that of the Lamb's begins to form. as one's personal Savior and the wonders He has done for should be enough to persuade us to provide Him with a bit of the time that He has given us. There is no doubt that God is patient and has the ability to wait forever, but why keep Him waiting? He has given up His own Precious Son for the sake of our sinful selves. All He wants is our devotion and time. We should take the initiative to formulate a strong personal relationship with God - a relationship which causes us to provide Him with a portion of what He has given us. Although nothing we do will ever compare to the gift of sacrifice God gave us, we can be assured that our interactions with Him will suffice. Apostle Paul, in 1Timothy 1:2, writes, "May God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord show you His kindness and mercy and give you great peace of heart and mind". We fail to acknowledge it many times, but God has already showed us His kindness through his Son. As if that sacrifice was not enough, He showers us with small, daily blessings despite our constant grumbling and greed. As we begin to increasingly realize the sacrifice made by our Lord in addition to His everlasting patience and enduring love, the desire to form a more intimate relationship with Jesus and live a lifestyle mirroring that of the Lamb's begins to form. As Christians, we aim to follow Christ's life model. Jesus always had time to talk to His Father. Likewise, we must always aim to be in continuous conversation with God - our one and only source of hope and the only constant in our lives.
Youth Corner Leaves to Water Art by Jibin Abraham Southwest Regional Youth Conference 2013 October 11-13, 2013 Venue: Glen Lake Camp & Retreat Center 1102 NE Barnard St, Glen Rose, TX 76043 Registration: $85 Speaker: Prijo Thomas THEME: "In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another." 1 John 4:9-11
