Prelude Welcome & Announcements Prayers of Praise, Pain, & Protest Gathering Songs My Church, My Church, My Dear Old Church 1 My Church, my Church, my dear old Church, My fathers and my own! On Prophets and Apostles built, And Christ the cornerstone; All else beside, by storm or tide, May yet be overthrown; But not my Church, my dear old Church, My fathers and my own. 2 My Church, my Church, my dear old Church, My glory and my pride! Firm in the faith Immanuel taught, She holds no faith beside. Upon this rock, gainst ev'ry shock, Tho' gates of hell assail, She stands secure, with promise sure, They never shall prevail. 3 My Church, my Church, my dear old Church, I've heard the tale of blood, Of hearts that loved her to the death: The great, the wise, the good. Our martyred sires defied the fires For Christ the Crucified; The once delivered faith to keep, They burned, they bled, they died. 4 My Church, my Church, my dear old Church, I love her ancient name; And God forbid, a child of hers Should ever do her shame!
Her mother-care I'll ever share; Her child I am alone, Till He Who gave me to her arms Shall call me to His own. Text: 1930, The Means of Grace: The Christian Church, GCSS Book, 1887 Ein feste Burg is unser Gott A Mighty Fortress Is Our God (Joann Feldwisch will sing the first verse in German, followed by the congregation singing the first verse in English. Joann will then sing the fourth verse in German, followed by the congregation singing the fourth verse in English.) 1 A mighty fortress is our God, a sword and shield victorious; he breaks the cruel oppressor's rod and wins salvation glorious. The old satanic foe has sworn to work us woe! With craft and dreadful might he arms himself to fight. On earth he has no equal. 4 God's Word forever shall abide, no thanks to foes, who fear it; for God himself fights by our side with weapons of the Spirit. Were they to take our house, goods, honor, child, or spouse, though life be wrenched away, they cannot win the day. The kingdom's ours forever! Text: Martin Luther, 1483-1546; tr. Confession & Forgiveness In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may confess our sin, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Silence for reflection and self-examination Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Greeting The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you.
Song Jesus Loves Me (children invited forward) 150 th Anniversary Interview 1 Jesus loves me! this I know, for the Bible tells me so; little ones to him belong, they are weak, but he is strong. Refrain Yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so. 2 Jesus loves me! he who died heaven's gates to open wide; he will wash away my sin, let his little child come in. Refrain 3 Jesus loves me! he will stay close beside me all the way; when at last I come to die, he will take me home on high. Refrain Text: Anna B. Warner, 1820-1915, alt.
Song I Love to Tell the Story 1 I love to tell the story of unseen things above, of Jesus and his glory, of Jesus and his love. I love to tell the story, because I know it's true; it satisfies my longings as nothing else would do. Refrain I love to tell the story; 'twill be my theme in glory to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love. 2 I love to tell the story: how pleasant to repeat what seems, each time I tell it, more wonderfully sweet! I love to tell the story, for some have never heard the message of salvation from God's own holy word. Refrain 3 I love to tell the story, for those who know it best seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest. And when, in scenes of glory, I sing the new, new song, I'll sing the old, old story that I have loved so long. Refrain Text: Katherine Hankey, 1834-1911
First Reading Psalm 78:1-7 1 Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth. 2 I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old, 3 things that we have heard and known, that our ancestors have told us. 4 We will not hide them from their children; we will tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. 5 He established a decree in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach to their children; 6 that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and rise up and tell them to their children, 7 so that they should set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments Sharing: Wayne Kenter & Easton Craft Special Music: Tommy Risner Second Reading Ephesians 1:1-14 Here I Am to Worship Tim Hughes 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are in Ephesus and are faithful in Christ Jesus: 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 just as he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love. 5 He destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7 In
him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and insight 9 he has made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ, 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to gather up all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. 11 In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will, 12 so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, might live for the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; 14 this is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God's own people, to the praise of his glory. Ray Repp Third Reading Matthew 28:16-20 16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Sharing: Deb Sommerville & Caitlin Lammers Special Music: Jeff Hertenstein & Molly Zellers Ceaseless Praise Tom Fettke Apostle s Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the
living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayers of Intercession L: Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and all people according to their needs. C: We seek joy in hope, patience in suffering, and faith through prayer. (Romans 12:12) Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Peace The peace of Christ be with you always. And also with you. Tithes and Offerings The Lord s Supper Communion Song during Distribution Blessed Assurance 1 Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of his Spirit, washed in his blood. Refrain This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior, all the day long: this is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long. 2 Perfect submission, perfect delight, visions of rapture now burst on my sight; angels descending bring from above echoes of mercy, whispers of love. Refrain 3 Perfect submission, all is at rest; I in my Savior am happy and blest, watching and waiting, looking above, filled with his goodness, lost in his love. Refrain Text: Fanny J. Crosby, 1820-1915
